I would really like to learn more about nutrition, especially with the heavy exercise schedule I am following with Cathe's workouts and my running. I don't know if I am getting enough protein, what is too much... etc. I do eat a balanced diet - follow Weight Watchers - but sometimes I feel I am not taking in enough of something, I have times when I feel weak. If anyone can suggest something, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm fond of Eat Smart, Play Hard by Liz Applegate. It has nutrition information for specific goals. My only complaint is that it's too short and not thorough enough if you want hardcore diet info.

The sequel is Encyclopedia of Sports and Fitness Nutrition. I haven't read it but if it's like her first book, it's probably pretty useful.

Nancy Clark's "Sports Nutrition Guidebook" is a good general nutrition guidebook for athletes or people who work out.

I just ordered this off eBay's Half.com for $6.00. Thanks everybody for their advice. I need all the help I can get.:9

I love Eat, Drink and Be Healthy, by Walter Willett, who recommends complex carbs and gives the low down on milk mustaches and all that. I enjoyed the Okinawa Diet. Okinawans are among athe longest lived people on the planet. Many live to be over 100. I enjoy books on nutariton a great deal but tend to make them adapt to me, my family and lifestyle. An interesting note, you know the book, "French Women Don't Get Fat"? In Time Magazine, there was a small article which said the French are where we were 10 years ago, on the verge of an obesity epidemic. French school children have doubled their rate of obesity and the French are getting fatter. They are also implementing a program to prevent a full blown epidemic. Good luck to them.

Interesting Bobbi... thanks for the response. I've gotten a lot of good information. I am going to check some of these out at the library and then buy the ones I like. Thanks all.

I took Lean Bodies out of the library twice now because there have been a lot of positive posts on it. I can;t believe anyone would try eating 3000 calories a day! Has anyone here actually done this program and if so, what is it like?

I don't think it's possible for a woman of average size but extremely fit to eat so many calories. He's mainly trying to say to strive to continually increase your calories at least to where you're getting enough quality fuel for your body. He used to have a radio show here in Dallas, so I feel I can say that comfortably.

Also, I did used to follow his way of eating & I lost a lot of body fat. I finally achieved a very cut, buff look. I have worked out since I was 15, and good long cardio 5-6 days a week. I never looked better until I followed his program. I was a burning furnace at night. You know what I'm talking about.

Now, I know what you're going to ask next. Why don't you do it anymore. My DH is a picky eater, I've gotten lazy cooking and preparing separate meals for the most part, I have gotten lazy about eating every 2-3 hours. However, I want to look good for the Cathe trip, so I am committed to follow his plan again. I just want to incorporate more vegetarian principles. So we'll see how that works.
