Can anyone suggest any proven ways for weight loss?????

RE: Can anyone suggest any proven ways for weight loss?...

I prayed that the Lord would give me the motivation to stick with it and the guidance I needed to know what I should do. I needed a doable plan I had a chance of sticking to. I asked my dh for a treadmill and began doing that and reducing my portions. I also did pilates and other Denise Austin dvds. I also read her book, Shrink Your Female Fat Zones. The weight come off fast at first. I lost over 100lbs in about a year. I love learning about healthy eating and working out. I am now interested in clean eating (eating food as natural as possible). But at first, it was just baby steps--walking and reducing my portions.

HTH,
Sandra

Edited to clarify, the pilates I was doing was at home with Denise's dvds or her abovementioned book.

Here's another vote for Weight Watchers. My sister-in-law is a WW counselor, and they really do promote lifestyle changes. You will learn portion control without deprivation, balanced eating (no elimination of entire food groups), and WW values the exercise factor. Also, the accountability factor is huge. When you know you have to weigh in every week you are more motivated not to cheat. I'm a personal trainer, and I have referred numerous clients to WW. I've never had one fail. My other suggestion is to start logging everything you put into your mouth - solid or liquid! Try a free online service like calorie-count.plus.com, or get a comprehensive nutrition guide that shows the nutrition breakdown for most foods, and log it by hand. You will never truly be aware of how much and what you are eating until you see it recorded!!

And of course, exercise, exercise, and then do some more exercise!! Find something you enjoy and that challenges you. You can't make gains without some discomfort. x(

Cardio AND weights go hand in hand - you need to do both in order to see results. The fact that you're highly motivated right now is a good indication that you will be successful.

Over the past 10 years I have tried so many different diets (Weight Watchers, South Beach Diet, The Zone, etc.) I felt Weight Watchers was the best because it didn't restrict you to any one food item (you could eat what you want as long as you stayed within the points). Recently I've had the best results by eating as clean as possible for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, I have whatever my family is eating (which is not always "clean", such as Chicken and Dumplings, etc.), but I only have very small portions of the "not clean stuff" and eat more of the "clean" stuff. I have a portion plate that has two (1/2 cup) portions, 1 (1 cup) portion and a 1/3 cup portion in the middle. I fill up my plate with good stuff for the 1 cup portion (vegetables, etc.) and then fill up my plate with the other stuff. Once my plate is full, I don't eat anymore. Also I've gotten into the habit of eating very slowly (I start with the vegetables and end with the good stuff!)

That has been my best way to lose weight. Always remember, however, healthy weight loss goes very slow (which is the best way to lose weight). Make sure you include exercise, because exercise and diet go hand-in-hand. However, in my opinion, diet is 80% of the equation. You can exercise like crazy, but if you're not eating right, you won't see the results that you want. Also, as you lose weight, you will want to exercise to firm up your muscles or it won't look as healthy as it should.

Just take it slow (there is no "quick" solution!). Don't get discouraged when you don't lose 10 pounds in one week, etc. Take it slow and you will be fine. Sometimes it has taken me 3 months or more to lose the same 5 pounds, then all of a sudden, I broke through a plateau and started losing more quickly.

Sorry so long -- I could elaborate much more!

The portion plates are excellent!! I also love your practice of not eating anymore after your plate is full. I'm going to start suggesting the portion plates to my clients again - I had sort of forgotten about them. And you're right, the weight loss equation is 80/20 - the 80 being what and how much you eat! You can't out run, lift, spin, step... a bad diet!

RE: Can anyone suggest any proven ways for weight loss?...

Don’t be sad. It’s just a common problem and the solution is a simple one. You should not take this as a disease, but rather a challenge that you can and will over come. There are many ways to got about it…….but its just as you said…..the failures are counted more than the success. My friend was in the same situation and she was really frustrated after putting on the weight again. She finally came across a weight loss system that not only gave her a reason to smile but did the magic work that she wanted
to get done. I would advise you to give it a try….as it can be a turning point to your life.

All the Best!!!!

I wanted to lose 5 lbs for years. For some reason I just couldn't get the weight off. Since January 1, 2008, I have dropped 15 lbs. I log everything I eat and my workouts at www.thedailyplate.com. The best part is it's free.

Good luck!!!
