calories?

If you get a Polar M32, or another heart rate monitor like it, it has something called "ownzone". To find your perceived upper and lower heart rates, you would do 5 minutes of progressively intense exercise and the heart monitor calculates it for you. That's the neat part about it. As you exericise with the videos, etc., the monitor will let you know where you are... There is also another Polar that I am thinking of purchasing: the F11 is an exerciser's dream come true. "It's the world's only heart rate monitor that creates a workout program to tell you how much, how hard and how long to exercise to reach your goals," this is the explanation, per the Polar website... Here is the URL: http://www.polar-usa.us/google.html. There are numerous monitors to choose from, and detailed descriptions of all of them.. I picked mine up at Sears.. Good Luck... let me know what you decide to do... Dee

This sounds great Dee! I just spoke to my boss (who might I add is a marathon runner), and he suggested a polar heart rate monitor. He wants to take me to the fitness center, get me on a treadmill and help me figure everything out but I like your suggestion better:7

Thanks, and I'll keep you informed.

Just one more thing to motivate you... Here are my stats from my heart rate monitor from last week. My age: 47; Wt: 159; high/low range: 115 - 150...

Cathe's High Step Circuit: 50 minutes of exercise; 36 minutes in zone, i.e. between: 115 - 150; I stayed closer to the high end though; 163 heart peak heart rate [went over my set hr by 13 pts, I was anaerobic at this point]; 133 average heart rate; 616 calories burned...

Fusion Mix & Match... all the aerobic step workouts and upper body workout: 102 minutes of exercise; 44 minutes in zone, 122 avgerage heart rate, 155 peak hr, 647 calories burned.....

Cathe Basic step only: 40 minutes total workout: 34 minutes in zone, 157 peak hr, 131 avg hr, 479 total calories burned

Cathe Cross Train Xpress: 10-10-10 & triceps: total exercise time: 42 minutes, 32m in the zone, 132 avg. hr, 163 pk hr, 515 total calories burned...

Cathe Cross Train Xpress: All Step & Shoulders: 50 mins. total; 36m zone, 115 avg. hr, 165 pk hr; 618 calories burned

Cathe LoMax Step: 101 total minutes; 47 min. in zone, 133 avg hr, 164 peak, 752 calories burned

You see some days I burned more calories, some days less, even with the same workout, because some days I pushed myself more.. When working out, I try to stay near the high end of my hr so that I can burn more calories, but I found that I can't do this every day or I will burn out.. You have to just listen to your body and know when to push yourself and when to rest! I keep a notebook with all of my exercise statistics. It motivates me when I feel like slacking off, I just review it... I also add comments that I can reflect on later as well.

See ya! Keep in touch, Dee

Thanks for all of this Dee. It may take a while before I get a heart rate monitor but it's definitely at the top of my list. I'm really impressed with Cathe's workouts the amount of calories that can be burned:7 Must explain why I stay so hungry. I eat pretty clean, eating alot of mixed green salads, fruits and vegetables - chicken, steak, fish etc for supper, but I feel really hungry alot! Maybe I'm working out the way I should which is burning all those calories.:D Have a great day!

You are doing great! It is normal to feel a little hunger at times. If you want to eat something just eat fruit with a protein, yogurt, something healthy. I have been watching the Biggest Loser also, the contestants on there are so much bigger than me, I am really inspired by all the weight they lose and the dedication it takes to accomplish this. I need to lose about 30 pounds, which is alot for me, but when I feel down about it, I realize that it could be worse and that it is a process that takes time. It is a lifetime committment not just weight I want to lose for a special occasion. Jillian, one of the trainer's on the show, explained how you will get hungry more often when your metabolism has increased; and she warned not to compensate for this by eating more. So a little hunger is a good sign, if you are already eating enough calories. Well bye for now... Dee:+

Hi Dee! I watch Biggest Loser also. I cry right along with some of them - it's really hard to develop an entire different lifestyle and lose weight. I've lost 14 lbs and really thats all I need to lose I just need to tone up. But the reason I'm sending this is I thank you once again for the comment on "not to compensate the hunger by eating more". I catch myself doing that but I'll be much more aware from now on, so Thanks!:) And don't you get down either - just keep working hard - you're doing a great job!:7

Thanks Tina,

You are welcome, and I appreciate the encouragement...I will keep you posted of my progress and you do the same! As I am writing you, I am contemplating whether to buy Cathe's Xpress DVD. I am so addicted to her workouts.... See ya...Dee

PS.. My moms name was Tina...
