Calories burned?

Hello Cathe,

I have many of your DVD's, and have been singing your praises for well over a year now (my husband is very happy with the results). I have started tracking my calorie intake and would love to know how many calories are burned for each workout 4DS, LM, BM, CF, BG etc. Is there somewhere where I can find this info?

Thanks and God bless you, Michelle

That will vary significantly depending on the person's weight, body fat/muscle amounts, fitness level, etc. The best way to get an estimate for yourself is probably to get a heart rate monitor that calculates calories and wear it during those workouts. Or if you're trying to use that information to decide which DVD's to buy, you could try posting a question asking others for their calories burned for the particular workouts you are interested in (based on THEIR HRM's). The important part there will be comparing the numbers an individual has for all the workouts, to give you a relative comparison of them. (not to assume that YOU will burn the same calories).

Calories burned is very individual. Depends on your age, height, weight and of course - the effort that you put in. I used to be obsessed about calories until I realized the best gauge is to

1. Keep your food intake under 1800 calories (I usually aim for 1500 and end up around 1500 or just under 1800).

2. Workout HARDER! So if you want to burn more calories then add a morning workout for a few days that would help you move 30-60 minutes and then another (harder) workout in the afternoon. I usually schedule the step workouts in the a.m. but don't use the step (so I do a floor workout with the step videos) and then go full throttle in the afternoon doing something harder with the step and sometimes risers (bad knee) like Drill Max and Bootcamp (I love Drill Max - the music just motivates me beyond max!)
