calories burned with STS

I love STS, this is my 2nd time through. I feel like its intense, and my muscles are working HARD, but I barely break a sweat, and my heart rate is hardly elevated when doing upper body work. I know that I am lifting proper sized dumbells. It just bothers me that the crew in the video are dripping with sweat, and I am not. I wonder why this is. Now doing lower body videos are a whole different story! I am breathing heavy and sweating from head to toe with those.

My first round of STS I just did the 3 month rotation. It was my first experience with Cathe after doing the Firm for about 8 years and needing a change in pace. I didnt really know about the 6 month rotation. This time I wanted to do the 6 mo rotation to get a better feel for it, but Cathe just posted STS/shock cardio for 3 mo. I sort of juggled it around a little bit to make a 6 mo rotation up. I just hope I dont get bored with it. Wish me luck!

I had the same worry when I did the 3 month rotation the first time (I just started the 6 month today). I went out and got batteries for my HRM to find out how many calories I was actually burning. With disc 1, I ended up at 313 for the workout. I haven't measured my Heart Rate in a long time (when the HRM showed up, it said my last measurement was 9/2007, and I was only doing cardio at that point), so unfortunately I don't have a comparison anymore to how many I used to burn doing other weight workouts.

That being said, I think the benefit of the upper body workouts is long-term calorie burn, rather than what you burn during the workout itself (there's some fancy name for this, but I forget it). It can get frustrating knowing how much time you're putting in to upper body, though. I think when you add shock cardio in, you're going to see some major calorie burn (probably enough to make up for the time spent doing upper body)!
