Hi Candy,
You answered my question , now I will answer yours..lol.to the best of my knowledge...from my own experiences.
1.one thing, 1200 calories is to low for anyone. If you are hungry at 1800, boy will you be contray this week.Chances are you will last a couple of days(unless, you have major will power)and then you are likely to pig out.I even find 1200 cals to low.
2.you are working with weights now, so you are building muscle.Muscle weighs more then fat.And you may have lost weight but is just not showing on the scale. That is why they recommend not weighing youreslf and just mearsuring yourself with clothing.
3.If you go to low with your cals you will only slow your metabolism down...and that is one thing you do not want.
4. Alot of times we think that we are only taking in so many cals but sometimes we forget that handful of chips..or those couple of candy. And maybe your serving sizes are bigger then the recommended serving size.Unless you keep a food journal and everytime something goes in your mouth you write it down, then you will have total control over your cals.
5.Are you doing any cardio? and maybe you need to up that some.
6.You need to have patience.I know it is hard and sometimes it feels like you are working so hard but you are not seeing any results. But with a clean diet and a good work out regimen you will see results. It may not be tomorrow or a week from now..but you will.
Hope this helped some.I am sure someone will add to this and may be they will know more then I do.Normally I try to keep my intake around 1500-1800.I am 5'4" to and 125.Best of luck,
Lori ann

I am. I'm having @ 1400 a day. A nutritionist designed a program for me, I changed it a bit but stick to the same caloric intake.
(I'm 5'3", in 153 aiming for 120 - 130lbs., small boned) 1400 is not too little, but 1200 seems to be a bit light. Also I drink a lot of water and make sure it's balanced protein/carbs/fat/veg/fruit/milk(skim) daily

Hi Candy,

If you're hungry at 1,800 calories for your height and weight, I'm wondering what you're eating.

I'm 5'6", weight - now no one fall on the floor - 210 pounds, wear a size 12, larged boned and almost pure muscle, and an hourglass shaped. 1,800 calories is just right for me for my nutritional and physical needs. I'm in martial arts. I practice for 75 - 90 minutes 3 x a week, and 90 minutes in the pool 2 x a week, weather permitting. Martial arts, depending on intensity level burns anywhere from 1,300 - 2,100 calories for 75 - 90 minutes.

So, I would be looking more at your diet than trying to decrease your calories. That's only until you analyze your diet, you'll naturally start going down because the 1,800 calories on a good solid nutritional plan IS A LOT OF FOOD!

Some days, I feel like that's all I'm doing ... eating. Then there are days where 1,800 just isn't enough and I'll eat up to 2,500 calories. But that's usually when I've hit exhaustion after a high intensity martial art class that lasts 90 minutes and can barely walk to my car. My body is telling me that it needs the extra calories to repair.

If you're comfortable, please post a typical day of eating and we can offer some suggestions on how to healthy it up for you.

Just a thought.

Keta. :D

Hi,
I'd like to 2nd what Keta and the others said. I try to always read Keta's posts because she has wonderful ideas on what to eat and how to eat sensibly.

I am 5'5, about 130 lbs and I am eating between 1700 and 2200 calories per day depending on my activities for the day and am losing weight. I realize we are all different - I'm only 28 and have never really yo-yo dieted so have a pretty good metabolism. 1200 calories seems very low to me - please post your menu for a day if you are comfortable with doing so, it could be you are not eating enough of the right foods if you are hungry at 1800 calories per day.
