Caloric Intake & Zig-Zag Method

Today I saw photos of myself in a bathing suit from a boating trip with my work. It is not very encouraging. Needless to say I really need to lose about 15 pounds. However, I am not sure what my caloric intake should be. Can someone tell me where I can find that. Here are my stats: 5'4", 29 years old (as of yesterday), & 140 lbs (YIKES!).

I think I would like to try the zig-zag method and see how it goes, but I'm not sure how to plan my exercise. On the lower calorie days would I need to do cardio or weights or a combo of both with circuits. I'm going to try to exercise 5 days a week. Right now I am averaging about 4.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know that I could find no peer reviewed articles in scientific or medical journals to support the claims of Price or McDonald. It probably works like any other diet... you are in calorie deficit over the long run. The statements about balancing hormones, confusing your body etc. are probably bunk and there is no accepted data to proove it.

The variation in calories was helpful if nothing else, psychologically. I didn't have to be hungry every day, just some days, and relief was only a day or two away. I find this easier than keeping my calories just a bit low each day.

And as far as the "hormone" stuff, it seems "reasonable" that it prevents metabolism from resetting, if it is bunk, no problem, because the total calories for the week are still lower than maintenance, so it works by simple math alone, as you suggest.

I lost my last 10 pounds (vanity weight) using this method, and it certainly isn't dangerous or cultish, so I like to suggest it.

Cathy,

I was wondering the same - when I calculated the caloric intake I'm supposed to average throughout the week, it was only 1275. YIKES!!!
One thing about this strategy, though, is that you don't have to stick to that everyday, you can eat more normally some days...

Glad you said this, though, as I was just about to go looking for the evidence...

Thanks for the site.I "THINK" I understand it. Take a look at this,if I started today:
Wed-1200
Thurs-1000
Fri-1200
Sat-2500
Sun-1200
Mon-1000
Tues-2000
Does that sound about right? I have Saturday as a heavier day, just in case I want to have a couple of drinks or something.
Does it matter what you eat? I mean ratio wise carbs v.s protein? I know he said that the higher days were a carb day,but what about the other days? How long have you been using this method and what results have you gotten?
Thanks,
Lori:)

That's a very low calorie diet. To me it doesn't make sense to essentially starve oneself most of the week and have two days of normal caloric intake. I'd stagger those 500 Saturday calories onto the rest of the week or I'd be hungry and cranky! I'm hunngry and cranky now! ;) Haven't checked the site out yet though. I'm going to now.
