Donna,

Your posts inspire (and make me laugh) so much! Your weight loss and new healthy lifestyle are amazing!

The reason I am posting to you is as follows... have a good friend at work who is significantly overweight. She is about 240 pounds at 5'6" and says she really wants to lose the weight. She always says she is uncoordinated and non-athletic, but that she would work out if she could get motivated to do so. Her eating is terrible--vegetables are not in her vocabulary. She says that she is sooooo far away from her target at this point that she can't get the motivation to even begin an exercise or healthy eating routine.

So, my response was to tell her about you and your story and how you started at 375 pounds and are now in the very low 200s. She was very interested to know that real people can lose so much weight. However, I am wondering what got you motivated to start? I feel like her motivation will have to come from within herself, but I think your response would be worth sharing with her. It just might trigger something within her!? I understand if you do not wish to share, but I would appreciate it if you do. You could e-mail me privately also at [email protected] if you prefer!

Thanks so much,
Cruncholi

Awwww!

Cruncholi~How nice of you to want to help your friend. Sorry for butting in here, but I'm sure your friend could get motivated if she has the time to at least lurk here and get some great ideas. I'm sure Donna will chime in here with her charming ways & her encouragement and help you also. Your friend is lucky to have someone like you to try to help her get started. Good Luck and keep us posted!

Hi Cruncholi :)

I'm sitting here hoping to be struck with some "wisdom" to pass on, but i'm coming up empty here.
I know EXACTLY how your friend feels, and please tell her I felt that way several times in my life. In 1985 when I weighed in at 199lbs, then again in 1987 when I weighed in at 230lbs, again in 1990 at 280, again in 1995 at 305lbs, and finally in 2001 when I hit my all time high of 375lbs. The point being, I "thought" I was too far gone at 199lbs to do anything about it, and I continued to "think" there was nothing I could do but accept being "full figured" and learn to love myself like the "full figured" magazines kept telling me, but the truth is, it was in my power the whole time.
Please tell her she can achieve weightloss without sacrificing completely. At 240lbs, she doesn't have as far to go as she might think, and tell her the up side of being 240lbs is that the weight literally rolls off until you hit about 200lbs, so the first 40 will be the easiest, and if she logs on here, she'll have so much support we'll glide together to our "healthy" weight :)
Please tell her to take it one step at a time. She doesn't have to change her eating the first day, that will come when she gets "hooked on Cathe" and this forum. I learned everything about eating and nutrition from you guys. And if I can handle Cathe at 375lbs, she can handle Cathe at 240lbs. But if you could maybe get her interested in "lurking" here for a day or two, I think that would be all the motivation she needs, and although it's said by everybody, I truly mean it when I say, "If I can do it, anybody can do it!
If you think I could offer her any type of motivation, or feel she may want to chat privately, please feel free to pass on my email address: [email protected]
And while I'm on the subject, I'll take this moment to thank all of you for your support over the past few months. You guys have been there pushing me through every week and every pound, and your support has made all the difference in some of my darkest moments.
Okay~mushy stuff over :)
Cruncholi, I know I speak for everyone when I say if there is ANYTHING we can do, just let us know.

Hi Donna!

The support here IS great! But....I just want to say, YOU are the one who has done all the hard work. Your success is soooo, soooo inspiring. I just want to take a second to THANK YOU for making a difference in so many lives here! :7

Donna & Debbie,

Thank you both for responding! I really appreciate it! I am going to suggest that my friend cruise these forums for a few days. I think she would be willing to try that. And Donna I appreciate the offer of your e-mail address also!

I already encouraged her to buy a Body Bar and the Keli Roberts Body Bar video, plus I lent her some of my easier tapes (Abs & Arms of Steele). She also has a treadmill. She had started exercising for a month or so back in October, but then got really sick and never got back to it. So, she has the tools to get started.

Then, of course the eating part is sooooo difficult for all of us (I'm terrible at clean eating--gotta have my afternoon chocolates). That will be a difficult change for her.

Well, thanks again--I'll keep you posted! (Or maybe she will keep you posted...if all goes well).

I really hope you can get her to log on, I think this forum could really help keep her motivated. And remind her she doesn't have to give up chocolate completely~just not EVERY day, but one "cheat" day per week is how many of us make it through without the weightloss being a chore. And if she feels she would benefit from a "buddy system" type of thing, my offer stands, it doesn't have to be public, like on the forum if she's not that outward, it can be private by email.

To the Remarkable Donna!

I find you inspiring too, Donna. So much warmth and humor in you! I love your posts and even as each of us reaches out in support, we are in turned, blessed and bolstered by you! You are a teacher and a guru in your own right.

These forums are so wonderful!
