Calling all skiers!

My 71/2 year old has joined a local resort ski race team. I drive him there every Saturday and Sunday 1 hour and 15 minutes away. He needs to be in the locker room by 7:30 am. So, in addition to getting up at 5 am during the week for work, I now need to be out of my house by 6:15 am on weekends. Anyway, now my weekend workouts are in jeopardy. So, I was hoping to bump up my skiing somehow to create a better workout. I avoid moguls because of the pain my knees are in afterwards but can ski any other area. The runs are short and lift lines long (Eastern PA skiing). Any suggestions? During the week, I can usually get in 3 or 4 day workouts, 2 of an hour or more the other 1 or 2 need to be about 45 minutes. I would add in 2 intense days on Saturday and Sunday before ski season started. Thanks in advance. I am really concerned that I won't be getting in enough activity.

I'm not a downhiller, but a cross country skier. Let me tell you, there are few better cardio workouts. See if there are any cross country trails in the vicinity and give it a whirl. It's cheaper too.

Thanks for the suggestion, there are some trails available, but they aren't open yet. The mountain makes snow. Also, since he is so young, a parent/guardian must remain on the mountiain!

Take up the WHOLE hill! I used to race in high school and now I find myself going too fast down our small SE michigan hills. I find for me to get better exercise, I try and work on my carving a lot more. Also if you can find a flat area you can work on a v-type skate (kinda like they do in x-country when the want to gain some speed). That's killer cardio.
