Calculating Calories to Lose Weight

Can someone explain how one calculates calories to lose weight. I've done weight watchers in the past, but I am afraid that I will not be eating enough on WW if I should decide to go on program again especially now that I do Cathe's tapes. Now I question how WW arrives at their point ranges, given the fact they don't take into account height and the level of one's activity.

Can someone shed some light on this?

I have done WW with good results.
They take your height into account when they calculate your goal weight range.

Your current weight is taken into account when they calculate where your points should be when you start out. As you weigh less, you might get to a point where you change points.

Then they suggest "activity points" for when you do workouts. I use/d 5 points for a Cathe aerobics tape, 4 points for weight tape.

Worked for me. Calorie counting should also work well...I just found the points system to be simpler. I used www.fitday.com for calorie counting (when I do it). I think it is 3500 calories deficit per lb of loss?

Kimmy, have you tried eating only till your satisfied?
That is what I do, I eat till I am satisfied, never stuffed. And I don't eat anything after 7pm........ Rhonda
 
Several years ago I read an aricle in Shape that helped me lose 25lbs. It was about how calories DO count. It said you should multiply your ideal weight by 10. This is how many calories you need if you did nothing all day. You then add on depending on your activity level, sorry I can't remember all the amounts. I added 700 because I'm very active. It worked! Eating the number of calories I calculated took me right to the weight I wanted! I didn't try to lose too much, I'm 5'8" and wanted to weigh 140. For my age and the fact I love to eat, 140 is a doable weight. Of course, I'd love to weigh 130...I can always dream!
