Cabbage soup diet

Has anyone tried this? What kind of results did you get? The girls in my office wanted to do this diet for 7 seven days. I looked it up and it seems to be really skimpy but the woman behind it says it could also be used as a cleanse. It says 10 lbs on 7 days sounds tempting.....
It's only for 7 days.....

Diets are not the solution. What happens after the 7 days, if you can even keep up such a distasteful eating plan for that long? People who follow diets pile the weight back on again afterwards because diets do not force you to adopt a healthy eating plan for life. I wouldn't bother with such nonsense but instead invest in a book on nutrition, a decent cookbook and an overhaul of my eating plan to improve my health.

When you focus on eating better, with more nutritiously dense foods and working out regularly, the weight takes care of itself.

My husband did this years ago, and boy, is it stinky!:D that is, if it is the same one. That cabbage, onions, and garlic really stunk up my house and he stunk... however, he did manage to lose some weight.

That said, I am not a fan of diets, because they have never worked for me. That's not to say this could not work for you...it may! The only thing that has ever worked long term for me is exercising and just cutting back a bit and trying to eat more clean.

But good luck to you if you try it....!!!:)

When you lose weight you lose a combo of water, muscle and fat. On a diet like this and for the short time frame given, it will be mainly water a little muscle and a little fat, you will likely gain back most if not all of it back when you start eating again. Doesn't seem worth it to torture yourself for the week.

Any drastic reduction in calories (like the cabbage soup diet) will result in weight loss so, yes, it can help one lose weight in the short term...but it will usually be temporary. I'm sure the proponents of this diet all stress the weight loss, but don't say anything about long-term sustained weight loss (because it won't happe

10 pounds weight loss in 7 days does sound tempting to many people, but it's not possible that it is all fat loss, as Dela said. If it were possible to lose and maintain that much weight in that period of time, it would be possible to gain that much in that period of time. That's why it's always recommended to lose 1-2 pounds a week, which is sustainable, and insures that it's mostly fat that is being lost.

Any kind of eating more simply can be used as a cleanse (or way of lightening the load on the body so it can put more energy into cleaning and repairing).

Cabbage soup is a healthy food, and good to include in one's regular diet, but not something I'd want to eat exclusively or long term.

An acquaintance of mine through ballroom dancing was using this diet and he collapsed at a dance and died. Don't do it!

I don't see a problem with adding cabbage soup to your menu but I think that (as Kathryn stated) a drastic reduction in calories can really mess up your metabolism and reset your set point (what weight your body is happy at ) higher than you are now (think a yo-yo dieter.) Just be careful!
