C&W compare to HSC?

Hi everyone,

This is my first posting on this site but I have been avidly reading for a couple of months. I love the education I'm getting here! I'm pretty knew to Cathe but am a HUGE fan - I can't stop telling others about her fantastic workouts! I currently have most of the GS series and am considering HSC. The only interval workout of Cathe's I have is C&W. How does HSC compare? I love the stepping component to C&W and sometimes do just the step premix. Is HSC a more thorough weight workout? How much is the step actually used? (I can't tell from the preview) Or, does anyone have another suggestion for a great interval workout of Cathe's?

Thanks for any input!:7

Crazycanuck (Love your name!)
Sounds like you have the same Cathe bug as everyone else around here.
First, neither C&W or HSC are interval workouts, they are, instead, circuit workouts (see one of the most recent posts in the "Ask Cathe" forum for a great definition and description of these by Aquajock).
To answer your questions HSC is a more thorough weight workout (you do more upper body and weighted leg work). You also don't use the step as much as you do in C&W, instead you use the highstep for 2 cardio sections and then just the floor for 3 cardio sections. It is actually a very different set-up and pace than C&W, but it is fun, fun, fun, and just a little bit harder. Neither is truly a 'weight' workout as the idea is to move quickly, keep the heart rate up, and increase your endurance. If you want something more similar to C&W you might try Power Circuit (off the CTX series), Circuit Max, Step, Pump, and Jump, or Body Max, as each of these uses the (traditional) step more for cardio (although SJP has hi/lo aerobic floor sections as well).
If you're really lookinf for interval workouts, you want to look at Imax, Imax 2, and Imax 3.
HTH,
Mattea:)

AAHHHHHH...I see...Thanks Mattea for the further enlightenment! I am always learning more on this forum! I actually just did IMAX 2 this afternoon and love it too. Seeing as you mentioned it....I was also wondering how much harder Imax 3 is compared to 2. I'm a little chicken as Imax 2 is a fantastic challenge for me and by interval 9 I'm breathing pretty hard.

Thanks.

Imax 3 is harder then Imax 2 but no need to fear - like other workouts you will improve each time you do it. To me the biggest difference is shorter recovery times in Imax 3. Personally Imax 3 is my favorite of all the Imax's but I would recommend ALL of them to everyone. :) :)

Thanks Jo! I guess I could modify Imax 3 as necessary. I think I'm leaning towards HSC and Imax 3 as my next two purchases. Thanks guys!:D

You'll love them both! Imax 3 is harder than 2, but just as much fun. There are the shorter recoveries and a little something called plie jacks (remember interval 9 from Imax 2?) Well this time pretty much the hole interval is plie jacks}( They get better, but they sure don't get easy, lol! I actually just did HSC and HSTA blended together today and had a great long sweatfest. Don't be afraid of Imax 3, just don't be afraid to modify at first (or later on those days when, for some weird reason, you thought that and Imax sounded like a good idea;-) )

Wow, Mattea. I just looked at your pictures and you look great! I'm so jealous you had your picture taken with Cathe! It certainly looks like you know what you're talking about and I really appreciate your comments.

Thanks!:)

Hey Crazycanuck:) How's every little thing in Manitoba??;) I just wanted to pop in and welcome you to the boards! There's a few of us Canucks here, nice to see another one! Finding Cathe takes home fitness to a whole other level, ENJOY!}( :)

Take Care

Hi Crazycanuck!
I just knew your fellow Canucks would find you soon! Thanks for the compliments, you really made my day!! I know, sometimes when I look at the picks I can't believe I was actually standing right next to Cathe. The road trip was awesome! You're welcome on the input and if you have any other questions we'll be happy to oblige. Or if you want to know what videos to get next, we'll be even happier to spend your money}(

Welcome Crazycanuck!! I just wanted to say don't be scared of imax 3. It is definitely harder than imax 2, but it is not undoable! I let it sit on my shelf for a good while and popped it in one day. I had so much fun and didn't even look at the clock until there were about 3 min left. One thing I do suggest if you get this DVD is to do the step only premix first. Cathe just goes right into the combos and at first the choreography can be a bit frustrating! Have fun and tell us how you like your new workouts.

You guys are making me feel so much better about getting Imax 3. I have been wanting to buy it for a while but felt it might be too much for me so I'd waste money by letting it sit on the shelf. Thanks Karin for the advice on doing just a premix first - I'll have to try that. It's taken me a bit just to get the choreography of Imax 2! And Laurie, thanks for the welcome from a fellow Canuck! I just visited Kingston for the first time last fall and what a beautiful city! You are very fortunate to live there.

OOOPPS! I stuck my last posting in the wrong spot up above. One last question about Imax 3: I find some of the blasts in Imax 2 give me a great burn in my legs. Should I expect the same/more in Imax 3?

Thanks.

Yes, burn...same/more, same/more, same/more! Seriously though, there will intervals that burn and intervals that leave you breathless, and a few that do both!
