Butts and Guts Floorwork form question

Cathe, I have a question about the floorwork in Butts and Gutts. When you are doing the “fire hydrant” lifts at the end, you suggest the ankle crosses over the other and you lift your leg at a 45 degree angle. When you move on to the other outer hip “fire hydrants” where you push your leg to the back, how do you keep this twist and your leg lifted. It seems very awkward and like it might cause injury. I already have a trochanter irritation and don’t want to risk further injury. Any pointers would be useful. Thanks.

Hi Finner! I'm not sure I understand your question where you say "the other outer hip fire hydrants". Do you mean the pizza press? Or the position just before the piaa press where you take your leg up and over? If so, you should NOT angle your hip to 45 degrees there...your hips should be squared to the floor as if your hip bones are two headlights aimed at the floor.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask again if I did not address your question properly :)

Hi Cathe,

I find that the only way I can do these moves is to drape my upper body on my step. Also, I can not do lunges, are one legged squats a good substitute for them?

TIA,
Karen
