Burnout?

Wise women please help!

I've been pretty lethargic lately. I can get into a Cathe workout, but it takes a lot of effort to get ready to exercise and to warm up. Just had a check up so it's not medical. Not TTOM either. Is it time to take a few days off (I work out most days) or to ramp it up and hope for the bad time to pass.

thanks!

p.s. Wise men can help too...

I seem to go through stages. It is funny because I tell myself when I have all this motivation to fly through my workouts, eat 100%, etc. I can't imagine not having the motivation...yet it happens occasionally. I just try to work through it and make myself do something for a workout. Taking a few days off might help also.

I get like this sometimes too. I try to take two weeks off, totally, during the year, one week in summer and one at Xmas time. It's tough, because I am obsessed, but I find I always come back refreshed and rarin' to go. If a week is too much I would recommend taking maybe 3 days off, just based on my own experience.

I try to do some sort of workout when that happens to me, I just got out of a burnout funk about a week ago. I do it because excerise is a huge stress reliever for me and I always feel better afterwards. my burnouts usually coincide with a little mental slump so I know I *need* to keep active.

I do take more rest days though and I find I start to miss my workouts again.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll work through it.

I'm actually having a week like this too, but only with cardio. I usually do cardio at least 4 days a week. I'm just not motivated to do cardio this week. I did MIC on Tuesday and that's it. I have been doing my weight training daily though. This morning I got on the treadmill for 9 minutes and got off! I think I'm just going to give it a rest for the weekend and start cardio again on Monday.

P, you are welcome :) It helps me too to know that others go through this. I think we serious fitness buffs have a tendency to blame ourselves when we just don't have the energy. I know I always feel like I am being lazy. we have to keep in mind though that we are burning a lot of mental energy as well as physical. I find planning my exercise more exhausting than actually doing it sometimes!! What do I need to do today? will I have time for cardio tomorrow? Should I push/pull or superset? Have I been neglecting my legs in favor of my abs? On and on, I'm sure you know what it's like. The time I have off really helps with the mental fatigue as well.

I am feeling a little beaten down this week as well. I think mine has more to do with the weather or that this person who was trying to work out with me, keeps coming up with excuses to not workout with me..........its getting old. I know she really really wants to, but her life revolves around her husband's time schedule - so she only gets to workout when he is willing to come home from work on time instead of staying later - which he always ends up working late. It drives me bonkers! I wish she had the guts to tell him that her life is just as damn important as his career!!!Its so irritating to see females walked over by their husbands! She takes care of their two kids all day long - starting from probably 7:00AM until he decides to get his butt home at like 7:30 or 8PM.......seriously!

So that is why I have been in a total funk this week! I just cannot get into cardio at all either. Tonight I am going for MIC or Circuit Max - I think I just need something super high energy to get me going! Circuit max has the best energy of any video I have seen Cathe make yet - - - if that doesn't work, and I am in a funk next week - - than I will surely cry! LOL

It's funny how I was just talking to my sister-inlaw about how tired I have been this week. Today has been the worst. I know I get like this a week before TTOM.

I was supposed to do slow and heavy chest and back, and could not bring myself to do it. I just couldn't lift heavy weights, my body just couldn't do it. I even tried to maybe think about pub, but that wasn't going to work either. so instead of monday being my day off, today will be. Hopefully I will feel differently tomorrow.

so yes I am with you there.

oh yeah your body is probably telling you it needs a break. I know that seems so strange for us fitness buffs who are supposed to keep going and going. If you read the thread from Maximus earlier on, she stated how great she felt energy wise getting into her workouts after a week vacation. Sometimes the simplest things seem the most complex. Give the bod' a rest!

Either take a rest or do something completely different from what you ordinarily do. Works for me every time. Good luck!

Great to read all your comments on a Monday. Maybe fitness people are a bit tough on themselves. I think we can all tell the difference between a need for a need for a change or slight rest, and a big old excuse to slack off!

I've been nursing a tender back (left trapezius) and concentrating on legs to get through the rough patch (leaving my upper body alone while until the traps are better). The humidity has kicked in and it's time to adjust. No matter how efficient the air conditioning is, I can feel the humidity!
