(I couldn't resist this title since Cbelle's post!)

Bought and read the book. DH kept asking me to read aloud while we were driving this w/e. I told him that he had to read and think it for himself in order to really get it.

Excellent purchase, thanks for all the feedback.

Quick question that I'm sure has been posted previously...

Did you use calipers, scale, or other method to measure BF%?

What are your recommendations?

Thanks

My dh didn't want to buy me the calipers x( , I don't know why. It is not expensive. I guess he likes to mortify me. But luckily, I didn't need it because the reason why I was slightly overweight is simply because I was eating too much. So once I started decreasing my calories and cycling, I lost fat without a problem. I really wanted the caliper, but since I didn't have it, I tried to use my "sensory acuity" as much as possible. I grabbed my skin with my fingers to "check" for subcutaneous fat, and used the mirror and an old pair of jeans to track my progress. I am quite sure that I didn't lose any muscle while losing fat. In fact, I think I gained some. Before, my calves looked tiny every morning, and then, fuller during the day. Since starting BFFM, my calves look muscular morning, day, and night. I'm going to buy the calipers anyway, when I can

I use the calipers. I found them dirt cheap on ebay (brand new). They are very reliable and it was pretty easy to learn how to use them.

I used a body fat scale and a digital caliper. The key is to use your chosen method consistantly. It is not going to give you a 100% accurate reading (which really doesn't matter) but it will aid you in TRACKING your progress. Use it the same time of day under identical circumstances and you should track successfully.

Omron hand held bf analyzers are cheapest at www.costco.com
I bought the Fat Track Gold caliper for $26 when it is $50 every where else. I bought mine through www.heartratemonitorsusa.com
You can get the foot scales with body fat mode at Target, Wal-Mart...anywhere!

I know Tom likes the calipers, he says they are more accurate if done properly. That is when I bought my Fat Track Gold. Out of all my methods, they all come out pretty close to the same.

I have a Tanita body fat scale that gives body fat % in 0.5% increments. Is that small enough of an increment to measure week to week?

Thanks,
Lori

I had followed that thread and recently purchased the book too. I'm really enjoying it :) :) ! I just ordered the Accu-measure caliper, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the tip, I'm actually learning a lot, and helping confirm what I already knew :7

I bought the Omron and used it. But, unless you are a die hard numbers person, I think Maximus method works just as well. With other methods, the variables that can throw the readings off are too much for a really accurate reading, IMHO.

LOL! Sometimes when I read thread titles, I read them in a different way from what they are intended (though I read them that way as well...my training as a "picker-aparter" of literary texts.;-) _)

If you're in the same frame of mind, the thred title could be read as a rather drastic solution for the obesity problem. (Or the engery crisis...or both).

me to! when i saw that title i figured it was something related to pics charlotte took of someone's ass}(

Wendy ~

Your "ticker" is very cute. I logged on to 3fatchicks.com but did not find it there. Where did you find your weightlifting ticker?

Thanks!
