Bummed about...

I’ve been reading all of the posts regarding the cleanliness of this site, and I have to admit that I am kind of bummed. This is one of my favorite places to visit and one of the few that I try to visit daily. I don’t know if I’m still considered a newbie. I’ve been around for about a year. Sometimes, I feel like a seasoned member, and other times I still feel new (if that makes any sense).

I love that we have such great discussions here and that I can read the viewpoints of such a diverse group. I like that I see both newbies’ and oldies’ (please pardon the expression) comments in the same threads.

If I could use one word to describe Cathe’s forums, it would be respectful. Regardless of the topic, differing opinions are almost always respected and are often appreciated in fact. I don’t want this to become a divided place. I love that people stay here for years, and I love that new people come everyday! I’m kind of rambling now, but I just wanted to express my thoughts on this since I think I am probably not the only person that feels this way.

Have a good day everyone.
:)

Gina,

Me too.

Kind of reminds me when I went to high school and separate cliques only accepted the girls who thought and behaved like they did :-( .

I never belonged to a clique cause I enjoyed everyone!

You have a good day, too :) :) :)

I hated the cliques in high school myself...for that reason though...I was never a "popular" girl...I had a few friends and that was it...but the friends I had were very close and to me, that is what was important. :)

I will respect anyone's opinnion so long as they respect mine and my right to disagree with them....I think it's healthy to voice your opinnion and to read others' opinnions that don't neccessarily echo yours.

I must admit though, that sometimes I am hesitant to post my opinnion or my disagreement of another's view here for fear of being "attacked" for it... ;( I hate feeling like that...I really wish I didn't but maybe it's just that I am being too sensitive...??

Have a great work out!

Here's an instance that will really confuse the "newbie" vs. "oldie" standards. When I read your post regarding which category you were in, I knew how you felt. While I've been working out with Cathe since '96, I haven't really participated in the forums until last year. But when I tried to scan my memory, I KNEW that I had written other things prior to last year. So, I went to the usernames and found ME twice under old usernames that I didn't even remember that I had! (shorne5610 and sarah1973) I guess that I would get on here and then life would become busy (new baby, master's thesis) and I'd quit, then when I'd come back several years later, I'd forget that I had even been on in the first place! For me, a new category needs to be distinguished. I'm not a "newbie" nor an "oldie." I think I'm just a "dummy"!!!:)

There's been entirely too much seriousness on here this week. Let's all just laugh!:+

Guys, I'm interested in what you think about an idea I just posted in the RE:Jokes thread.

I think this is just one of many "bumps" that this forum has seen in the past and will see again, due to the wonderful fact that we are all different AND human! That's what makes this forum great. We all have a common root/goal/love of fitness, and from there we blossum into a beautiful garden of variety.

Please, Please don't be bummed, and PLEASE don't leave! We got over those old bumps and we'll get over this one. Think of it as Mama Cathe coming in and telling the "slumber party" to keep it down to a dull roar. We can still whisper and giggle all we want long into the night! :+

Same problem here. I've been doing Cathe's workouts since 1999. I used to post about 4 years ago, but I forgot my screen name after life got too hectic for me to keep up with it.

We should just call ourselves "noldies"!

Gina, don't be bummed! Reading your post I had to check out your join date and I was surprised it was January '04. You may be relatively new but when I see your posts, I usually pay attention because you have a wealth of information and that is much more important than when you introduced yourself. That which we call a rose would smell as sweet by any other name and newbie is just a word we use when we say hello. Some newbies are new to Cathe, others to working out so there are distinctions there but none of them are really important. Waxing nostalgic is all well and good but this place would be boresville if it hadn't grown and changed as it has. Cathe has grown and changed and the site reflects that. I might look back fondly on my youth but you couldn't pay me to go back there! One of the most awesome and hysterically funny Cathites was a newbie recently, although she would, I am sure, refuse to accept the term since she always says she's old. That's Alexis, the magnificent, the queen. You are only new once and that's actually a special thing. We should never have allowed a negative connotation to be attatched to that word and that we have is a shame. But it's never too late to change! You've been posting over a little over a year and you are almost to 900 posts. I've averaged 511 since 2000 which was the first year we got a computer and got online. But look out, Wendy signed on in the end of '04 and she's outposted you! Not that that's a criteria because posting is not a requirement either. I just want to note that you two aforementioned Catheites stand out as not just wise women but kind encouragers and I love that. You'll never catch Debbie though, unless you are willing to sacrifice your fingers! :) Can you believe she hunts and pecks? What a woman!

Thanks for the kind words, Bobbi! I agree that being new is a special thing, and having been around for a while is special also. I hope negative connotations don't get stuck on either of those (and I don't think they will).

Wendy is pretty great- right? She's definitely racking up those posts! But no one outposts Debbie!

By the way Bobbi, it's nice to see you!
