Buff Badgers Week of August 15th

heartymax

Cathlete
Saturday was High Reps. This morning was Gym Styles Chest and Triceps with my push up challenge followed by Level 3 of Jillian's 30 day shred. I struggled through the challenge this morning....22,30,20,20 and 28 (I didn't get 28 as I was so exhausted by then...I did about 15 I think). This completes week 3 of the challenge for me. I am struggling so I have to decide if I will move on to week 4 or not. I would like to get up to 35 push ups consecutively. I made it through the 30 with the second set but was exhausted by set 5.

I had a great weekend. DH, the boys and I went to see The Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was a great movie and a nice family outing. We rarely go to the movies so it was fun. A friend and I went to see The Help on Sunday. It touches many issues and is such a powerful movie. I enjoyed popcorn on Saturday at the movies----but I didn't have any on Sunday.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Good morning all! Saturday I ran 5 miles. Sunday I walked for an hour, mowed lawn, cleaned. Today, I ran another 5 miles and ab work.

Did 1 kids back to school shopping Saturday morning, without the kids. It was nice to get it done without hearing my kids "Mom, Mom, Ma..." I was listening to other Moms and their kids shopping/arguing and was glad to be alone! DS was very happy with everything I got him. :) DD was gone for the weekend so I told her I would take her during the week some time. Thankfully, since she's going into HS she doesn't need as much stuff!

Heartymax, you are building some muscle aren't you? I would not be able to do the "push-up challenge" I tried something similar once and my shoulders just can't take it. You have done very well so far! I wanted to go to the movies this weekend but couldn't find the time. Sounds like you had a nice time.

Gotta go ~ enjoy the day!

Susan

Morning Ladies,

I was able to do SWAT Firm & Tone workout on Saturday. Nothing this morning or Sunday. We had rain off and on Saturday, which made the day pretty misserable. Sunday was absolutely gorgeous! :D It was a great day. ;)

heartymax, Glad you had a good weekend, I'm so iffy on that movie. Probably because I was young when The Planet of the Apes came out. ;) That push-up challenge really does sound tough. I think I couldn't do that challenge either, I just don't enjoy them enough to finish that type of challenge.

Susan, I always enjoy shopping without my girls. :D Great job on the running.

Have a wonderful day!

Heartymax - Ditto on the pushups. I couldn't even do that many on my knees! Was hoping to see the Apes movie, too, but DH had other things in mind for me and the kids. That's okay though. I'll see it eventually. Did I tell you they sell popcorn here for 25 cents a bag now? They make it in a machine like you see at concession stands and portion it into bags. It's a small bag - probably about 4 cups of popcorn - but it's popped in God knows what and topped with more God knows what so not very healthy. The girl responsible for the popcorn makes it ALL DAY LONG. She starts at 8 a.m. popping corn and makes batches continuously until 4 p.m. She has other duties, too, so I feel sorry for her. She's an intern, but still, what a lousy job.

Susan - I've said it before but I do not know where you get your energy! If I did one of those things you did yesterday I'd call it a day. I see you have 1 starting high school, too. My youngest will be a Freshman. Hardly seems possible.

Laurie - Did you have a nice birthday even though it rained on Saturday?

Well, I did 2 workouts over the last 4 days with 4 total rest days last week. :( It was a combination of laziness, wanting to other stuff like read a really good book I couldn't put down and really wanting to be done with this rotation. Oh, and being sore, too. It took 4 days to get over soreness from S90 Legs. If it sounds like I'm full of excuses, maybe I am. Sometimes I feel like I should just focus on the eating part and ease back on the exercise schedule - maybe working out only 4-5 days a week. We'll see how this week goes. So here's how my weekend went:

Friday - Rest
Saturday - Shoulders and Arms (didn't get a sore back from this one this time; modified the rear delt move to sitting on the ball instead of standing and lightened up the weights)
Sunday - Rest
Monday - Ultimate Ball + 1 Leslie mile

Hi ladies. I didn't check in at the end of last week because there wasn't much to report. I had a nice finish to my rest week and by the time Saturday rolled around, I was ready to get back to it.

I was thinking of doing another Slim Series rotation, but was feeling kind of "meh..." about it. So, I decided to alternate SS workouts with cardio of my choice instead for awhile (till the new Cathes get here?). Saturday I did Shape It Up and yesterday I did the cardio only premix from Low Impact Circuit.

I'm also planning to eliminate my trigger foods from my diet for awhile. I even posted it on the General Discussion board, so I guess I have to now ;) My triggers are fast food, deep fried anything, and sugar (though I'm allowing a glass of wine here and there and agave nectar on my morning yogurt). Believe it or not, the easiest of those three for me to give up is sugar. I love my salt and fat . After doing it for two days I'm already noticing how much those things had been sneaking back into my diet.

Elliot's doing much better. We're still waiting for the swelling in his face to go completely down, and the vet's got him on more antibiotics. He also has instructed us to keep the wound itself from scabbing over and to encourage draining. Elliot sure hates it, but it seems to be working. Here's hoping he won't have to "go in there", as he says, again.

School prep is in full, crazy swing. We had a meeting this morning, registration is Wednesday, and I've been working in my classroom late into the night most days. I think I have to accept that 4 workouts a week may be all I can do right now.

Heartymax- You are strong, girl! I can't do that many pushups on my knees!

Susan- I'm with Sue. I wish I had your energy. Just reading your posts makes me tired :D It sounds like you haven't had any trouble getting back into running.

Sue- This popcorn is at WORK?!?!?!? That's awful. I struggle so much as it is with kids' birthday treats coming in seemingly every day, doughnuts in the office, etc... but, as stated above, grease and salt are my downfall. I'd have to quit :p

Laurie- It was your birthday? Happy birthday to you! I hope it was good despite the rain.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi, Finished our 124 mile bike ride in 10 hours, total of 8 hrs 25 min on the bike 20 for a flat and the rest of the time was at stops filling our bottles or using the bathroom. Today I did GS floorwork legs, BM2 upper body and Ab Ripper X.

Sam, good luck not eating your trigger foods. Sugar would be the hardest for me. Glad Elliot is seeming better, hope he continues to heal. Glad you can at least get in 4 daysl.

Sue, I am with you on focusing on my eating and not as much as my exercise. I know I could get to where I want if I could stop eating junk.

laurie, glad you at least got one nice day. Do you like the SWAT workouts?

Heartymax nice job on your pushup challenge

Susan, nice job on your running you have ran more than I have the whole summer in your few weeks of doing it.

Have a great day. DD8 has a sprint tri tonight and then we are going to friends house for a cookout and bonfire. Have to go get some things ready.

Sam---I understand what you mean about eliminating the trigger foods. I can definitely tell the difference in my abs and thighs when I really cut back on the junk food. I can exercise everyday----but unless I limit the junk----I don't see change in my abs. I know what works for my body!!

Karen---glad the bike ride was a success----You must have one strong heart to do that much cardio.

Sue----Oh my----selling popcorn at work. They are making use of other's temptations--huh! ROTFL at your comment about topped with God Knows what. You are probably right----may as well eat whopper with cheese---huh???

Laurie---I was young with the movie came out and I remember watching many TV episodes. This movie is the Prequel (is that right word---LOL!)----so it's tells the story of how it Apes became so smart and how it all begin. They never really shared that in the old movie or shows.

Susan---you are rocking with your running!

This morning was Hiit 30/30 followed by Butts and Gutts abs. The push up challenge has definitely been a challenge. You do push ups 3 days a week. Day one allows for 60 second rest in between. Day two 90 seconds and Day 3 120 seconds between each set. I am going to keep doing as many as I can and just see how it goes for another week. I guess I will gear up for push ups tomorrow.

Hello! Today was Legs/Shoulders/Abs. I also uploaded my final P90X pics if you want to look at the album! :D

Laurie, when DH and I saw the preview for the Apes movie, we both were talking about watching the show when we were little and how that movie did not look like the show at all!

Sue,too bad they couldn't make that popcorn healthier! Our company is having an employee appreciation picnic on Thursday but it's all healthy, chicken breast, turkey burgers or veggie burgers, fresh veggies, fruits etc.. They are on a BIG health kick here! Sometimes we need to take a step back and focus on one area so we can get over a plateau. If you think watching the diet is the main thing for you, then focus on that and the exercise will happen. Especially once you start eating healthier, feeling better and have more energy!

Sam, I am glad the puppy is doing better. :) My trigger foods are salty/crunchy and so far I have been really good. I was worried that once P90X was over I would fall back into old habits. I have "treats" once a week or so and I look forward to it so I don't feel deprived.

Karen, you did awesome on your bike ride! Just like I thought you would! Hope you enjoyed the cookout last night!:D

Heartymax, great workout this morning. Your chest muscles must get pretty shaky after all those pushups! I know when I do too many, my shoulders, chest, everything seems to be a shakin'!

Have a great day ladies! Susan

Hi All! After our vacation in VA and some down time here, I´m back! Our trip was great and it was my rest week.
I´ve been running and pretty much doing full body...STS total body...that is a workout:eek:

Susan, I see you´ve been running, too...5 miles..nice! We still can´t say the "S" word around here, yet, I´m in denial, although I´m working on lessons daily :(

Karen...124 miles wow! Was that a race? Are you doing the Mpls 1/2?

Heartymax, that is a lot of pushups!! Nice job! I know they are so good for us, but don´t think I would challenge myself...really don´t like them ;)

Laurie, As usual, you are finding new (at least to me) workouts. Who does the SWAT? What is it like? Just by the name it sounds like I might like it ;)

Sue, What book couldn´t you put down? I have about 5 started  The one I´m reading the most is Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follet. And hey, enjoy those rest days...we all need them!

Sam, I have been gone so long, what kind of surgery did Elliot need? Hope he´s recuperating well.

Hope to be more consistent with my check-ins now...we´ll see!

Morning Ladies,

This morning was Ripped in 30 Week 2 and Biggest Winner Maximise Backside. Week 2 is a step up from the last one, a lot more plank type moves. ;) She does a plank jack followed by in and outs. Kind of reminded me of Insanity.

Sue, Dang sure sounds like you need a good shake up of the rotation. I know that some of the rotations I have created have not worked out and I needed to just toss them. Looks like we have a lot of Freshman! My youngest is also in her first year of HS. It just seems to have come so fast. :D Yes I did have a nice birthday, was able to spend the afternoon with my friend at faire. We harassed a lot of people that day. :D

Sam, Are you saying that I would have to give up my Oreo's! (Not that I have them every day) I have a hard time with those, and I know I shouldn't bring them into the house at all. Oh well, I'm only two years from 50 so I'm at the point that there are just some things that I want even if they are not the best for me. ;)

Karen, Congrats on the bike ride, you did great. The SWAT workout was likable. I might have to use a different band to get the burn going. I used the one I got from Barry's, so I might have to try out a different tensioned one next time.

heartymax, I guess I would need to see the movie, but I'm having a really hard time with the Avitar type apes and monkey's. Guess I'm used to having the actor in the suit. :D What will I do without the face and voice of Rodney McDowell!

Sue, I will head over and take a peak when I'm done typing. I'm guessing that you did a great job. That is the same problem I had with the previews of the movie. They just didn't look the same way, and I think a little more creepy. Our company is big on the healthy also. Makes the people around here a little mad sometimes. :D EDITED! WOW woman you did great!

Lala, The DVD is instructed by Commander Tom. It does have kind of a cheesy set with a SWAT vehicle in the background. All the background exercisers are woman with boobs and muscles. It really is a good workout despite all that. I have two of his workouts, one with the band (which I did) and with weights (have not tried yet). Between rounds he does mountain climbers. Probably not a workout that I would go and spend lot's of money on. I found these at Half Price Books for $6 so I didn't feel to bad about the $. He uses the bands during the warm-up so that was nice, and then at the end are abs. The abs are all crunch type moves. Felt those for sure.

Have a great day!

Sam - Yes, the popcorn is at work and I can smell it all the time! On Friday afternoon I was starving so had my 1st bag even though they've been selling it for a few weeks. I think almost every workplace has the issue with the donuts, bagels, etc. It wouldn't be so bad but once I start eating junk, I just want more!

Karen - Congrats on finishing 124 miles on your bike ride! I think 8 hours 25 min. is a great time. How did you feel afterwards? Ready to colapse?!

Heartymax - I'd take a whopper with cheese over popcorn any day! Much more satisfying. I thought they made a prequel to Planet of the Apes before?? I'll have to google it. Might have been a made for TV movie. Low budget. No big name actors. I'll have to google it.

Susan - That sounds like wise advice. I'll admit to getting overwhelmed by trying to focus on EVERYTHING! (ie. losing weight, getting muscle definition, getting a better butt, eating less dairy, doing more yoga/stretching) Your abs look amazing! Looks like your pants are hanging on you. Did you go down a size? CONGRATULATIONS on all your hard work!

Lala - LOL about not saying the "S" word. We have registration on Thursday so it'll be here before we know it. Enjoy your last few days before "S" starts and the craziness begins. The book is "Sarah's Key". It's a fictional story about the Vel de Hiv roundup of Jews in Paris during WWII. A little girl locks her little brother in a closet to protect him from the French Police (acting on behalf of the Nazis). It was so good. Read the whole thing over the weekend which is not normally something I do. I like Ken Follet. I read "Eye of the Needle" years ago and still remember what a good book it is.

Laurie - I bought Ripped in 30 at Target a couple of weeks ago. Thinking of pre-ordering Jillian's Killer Butt and Thighs.

I did a Pilates on the Ball dvd from the library last night by Elise somebody. It was a real beginner level but the stretch felt good. Was not feeling like Tabata Inferno this morning so went outside for a 2 mile walk. I love how peaceful it is in the morning.

I'm checking in before working out, but I plan to do Mix It Up! today, possibly finishing with a Stretch Max segment. I took DS on a wagon ride today, so I already have a little activity in. I had a huge breakfast and now I have ton of energy. I really should eat a big breakfast more often.

I worked at "S" :))) for awhile last night. We have cable there, so I was able to watch the Brewers game. Wow! A triple play and FOUR double plays! I'm not a huge baseball fan, but even I was excited.

Sue- My DH tells me Tabata Inferno is pretty tough to gear up for in the morning. I think I'd rather take a walk, too.

Laurie- Yup, no Oreos for me. I've decided to eliminate those foods just until my birthday at the beginning of October, just to get rid of the cravings I've been having. I'll probably request deep-fried cake and Culver's for my birthday dinner :D

Susan- I will go and look at your pics as soon as I'm done typing. The results you've been talking about make me want to try P90x. I've been going back and forth on it for years...

Lala- Elliot had a surgery to remove some sort of larva from his face (big yuck!) He's doing pretty well, but the infection came back after he went through his first round of antibiotics. It looks better now.

Karen- 124 miles! That's crazy. Was this a race or just a personal challenge?

Heartymax- Yep. No matter what exercise I'm doing, my thighs and belly stay puffy unless I'm eating squeaky-clean. I hope your push-ups go well tomorrow.

Tonight is grocery night, so I've got to get a menu together for the week. I may or may not go to "s" since we have registration bright and early tomorrow morning. Have a great day everybody.

You ladies have me cracking up about the "S" word.

Susan---your pics look amazing.....what an awesome transformation!

Sam---I am trying to do a better job of getting my menus together before grocery shopping too. It truly makes a difference.

Sue---thanks for the link. The movie out now tells the story of Ceasar from birth which I guess would be story before the Conquest movie. The way the movie ended, I definitely expect it to be a 2nd part coming out in a few years.

lala--Welcome back from Virginia Beach!

Laurie---I think I will take a pass on the plank jacks:eek:

It is TTOM and my body is not feeling energetic enough to workout so I am jut relaxing this morning. I know I am sluggish if I skip a weight workout. Skipping cardio is easier for me......but today should be back, shoulders and biceps which I love to do!! Anyway, I will relax this morning...and hopefully feel better tomorrow.

Good morning! I was supposed to run today but it was raining so I got on the elliptical for 5.2 miles instead! :)

Thanks for the compliments ladies! Sue, I went down 2 pant sizes. Now I hope I stay that way! The hardest part is the maintenance.

Laurie, not of fan of plank jacks! Sounds like I should look at Jillian's newer ones again...

Sue, I did not know Jillian was coming out with new ones. Saw on FB this morning that pre-sale for P90X2 starts in September.:D I agree I love my morning walks with Ruby!

Sam, I sit down and think up a week of menus as well. Then during dinner I go over it with the family and see what they think. I usually let each child pick a supper and my DH.

Heartymax, hope you get rested today. TTOTM is never fun.

Week is half-way over! Class reunion this weekend. My friends from school keep e-mailing me. They are so excited! It'll be good to see old friends...

Have a great day~ Susan

Morning Ladies,

This morning was 30 Day Shred Level 1 and Ripped in 30 Week 2. Now that was a fun combination. ;)

Susan, LOL about the whopper! ;) That is my problem when I go to Culver's on the weekends. I will mention that book to my oldest, she is very interested in stories of the Jew's during that time. I'm ordering the Butt & Thigh workout also. Right now my legs are feeling this morning workout. She is suppose to be coming out with another one. All I remember is that Extreme is in the title. :D Oh I remember that Ape movie. ;)

Sam, I think Brewer fever will hit the state of WI just like it did when they went the last time. I remember that time very well. How is your DH doing with those S90 workouts?

heartymax, I guess that helps a lot to understand those movies. Oh my, if they have another Ape movie then that will make a total of 5 altogether. Maybe the next one will explain why all the humans where not able to communicate. Take care of yourself, these TTOM days can be tough.

Susan, You should have a blast at the reunion! It is always fun to meet up with classmates. Jillian has really created a good one in this Ripped in 30. I'm really loving it right now, and am thinking of just continuing on with just doing her workouts for the next couple of weeks. That should carry me onto the end of faire!

Have a great day!

Hi,

Last night we did 40 miles on the tandem. Ride on Sat. was fun except the last 11 miles my knee was feeling like it was going to blow and it started pouring rain. Finished all three races in the series and get a cool jersey with the distance and our names on it. 1/2 in Mpls. is on Sun. Soccer is tonight and Fri. and all day Sat.

Susan, you look amazing. I can't believe what a transformation. You rock.

Sam, sounds like things are in full swing for you but it seems you are a expert planner. Glad puppy is on the mend.

Sue, a morning walk sounds good. Pop corn during the day would be nice snack.

Laurie, sounds like Jillian came up with another good workout. I need to pull that one out, maybe today.

Lala, glad you are back safely from your trip and you had a good time. Your workouts sound just perfect running and total body.

Heartymax nice job on all those pushups.

DD8 had a great time at the sprint triathalon on mon. night and did great.

Enjoy your day.

Heartymax - Thanks for clarifying on the Apes prequel and the timeline. Now I want to see it even more! Maybe I can convince one of my kids to go with me since I know DH won't want to go.

Laurie - DS was reading some interesting books about the Holocaust last year in his English class. I'll have to see if he remembers the names of any. They made a movie out of Sarah's Key but the only place it is showing is on Downer Ave. Mmmmmm, Culvers. I must be doing plank jacks wrong because I don't think they're that hard. Of course, I don't move my elbows in and out because that looks like a shoulder injury waiting to happen.

Susan - Down 2 pants sizes! Wonderful! Hope you have something to wear to the reunion that shows off your "buffness".

Karen - Did I read that right? You're doing a half marathon on Sunday? If so, good luck! I know you'll do great.

Sam - I'm in a definite rut with the cooking and need to do some menu planning myself. DH is right. Tabata is definitely easier later in the day. How is he doing with S90?

This morning I did 2 15 min. segments (abs and upper body) from Method Pilates Target Sequencing with Jennifer Kries. I like Jennifer as an instructor and it was just what I was in the mood for this morning. The next couple of days are busy with meetings for school, registration and an Ortho appt. so I don't know what I'll be doing for a workout.

Feeling more energetic today. Since I have been struggling on set 5 of push ups, I decided to just do my own version of push up challenge and try to get in 4 sets. Today was 20, 25, 20 and 30 followed by Gym Styles Back, Shoulders and Biceps.

My kids still have one more week off before they return to school. The teachers come by next week so I have alot of work to do in preparation for that....working on schedules and making sure students are placed correctly.

Susan--congrats on the weightloss. You are going to be gorgeous for your class reunion. Have fun.

Karen---DD is enjoying triathalons! WOW!

Laurie--you are enjoying Jillian. I think she does a good job working the abs too.

Sue---summer goes by so quickly and next you know you are squeezing in all those appts for the kids. I was squeezing in appts. my last week before returning to work.

Hae a great day ladies!

Hello! Today I was not in the mood for Slow & Heavy so I did Hi-Reps instead. I love the lower body disc work in this one but my triceps were killing me!:)

Laurie, okay , you have me convinced I need to get this Ripped in 30! What I like most about Jillian's workouts, is their price!

Karen, I think it's great that your kids are so active! It's a testament to you and your DH that they are!

Sue, I think it's interesting how everyone has their instructors they like. I personally don't like Jennifer Kries, and I know others don't like Mari Winsor, like I do! It's great that you have found a pilates instructor you like. I bought a new pair of dress pants for the reunion that my DH said look "very nice on my tight bum!"

Heartymax, I thought of you this morning when I was doing the push-ups in Hi-Reps! I just hate push ups!!

Hi Lala!!

Have a great day! Today work is having their big employee appreciation picnic, but I am taking a few healthy foods of my own just in case I don't like everything they are offering, or if it's not as "healthy" as it should be!

See ya~ Susan
