Buff Badgers week Jan. 21

heartymax

Cathlete
Saturday was Burn Sets Biceps and Triceps and the 100 RC flat bench tricep extensions. I made it with 5lbs. Today was Cardio Leg Blast and 50 reps of the hip thrust challenge. I'm not sure about my form but I gave it a try.

Morning Ladies,

What a busy weekend we had. DH and I did a ton of organization. We got a new stand for under our TV that got all of our DVD's off the floor, and it looks really nice. We also started getting some things together to put to charity. Our bedroom was organized, and we have some ideas to finish up the curtains. I sometimes hate Pintrest, but you can really get some great ideas. ;) Anyway no workout for me on Saturday, just way to tired from cleaning. Sunday was Combat 60. Tonight will be Combat 30, and Plyo Hiit.

heartymax, WTG on the challenge!

Have a great day!

Hi, did Horizontal Conditioning March Hardcore today. On Sat. I ran 4 miles on the trail and Sun. I did nothing.

I am not feeling well this am and haven't slept much in the last 4 or 5 days. Now I have a cough and clogged throat.

Laurie, sounds like you got some great organization done. That is always a good feeling. Nice job keeping up on your workouts.

Heartymax, nice job on the 100 rep tri's with 5lbs. I haven't tried any of the challenges yet.

Enjoy this cold, blustery day.

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Saturday was Low Impact Cardio. I did the all out extreme cardio premix (I think that's what it's called), the one where you do the floor work twice. Sunday was my rest day. Today was cardio leg blast.

Saturday we had our outdoor party that I bundled myself up for. We had a nice time and between all my layers and the fire I managed to stay warm for the most part. Then the wind kicked in. We got there about 3:30 and were home by 8pm. I think with all the standing and the cold, my leg was not happy with me on Sunday. Felt a little better after I did some stretching. You will all be happy to know that I have FINALLY broke down and made a docs. appt, which is tomorrow at 4pm. I've had enough where it will feel fairly well and then, wham...i get a shooting pain in my hip or in the side of my knee or both. It happened to me when I was walking across a parking lot to my car. It hurt so bad and it's so frustrating, I sat in my car and cried. :(

Heartymax - WTG on the workouts. How do you like those hip thrusts? I have tried any of the 100 RC yet.

Laurie - It is always a great feeling to get stuff like that done around the house. I have a spare bedroom that needs some serious attention. It's going to have to wait a while as I have other things that are more important. Have fun with tonights workout.

Karen - Do you run in the real cold temps? When I see people running in really cold temps, I give them kudos and I think they're nuts all the same time. :) I hope your cough and throat don't get any worse. Those darn germs.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Brenda

Happy MLK day!

It was a good weekend. We made our last big trip to Ikea and got a loveseat, entertainment unit, a lamp, and a few other tchotckes. The living room looks so bright and clean and fresh! I can hardly get used to it!

DH is home since his company provides software for schools, and many of their districts are off today. He's going to help me hang curtains in our bay window during DH's nap. I was going to hem them by actually sewing, but decided to just buy iron-on hem tape instead.

I didn't get any workouts in over the weekend. Too busy. I am headed downstairs in a few minutes to do Burn Sets for Chest Back and Shoulders.

Heartymax- I haven't tried any of the 100 Rep challenges yet, either. I'm not sure what my weak area would be to try one for. Probably the hip thrusts.

Laurie- I love Pinterest. DH makes fun of me, but I try to remind him how much money we've saved since I've discovered certain things. :D

Karen- I hope you feel better soon. That is how my last cold started out. Take your vitamins :)

Brenda- I didn't get on last Friday and wanted to thank you for sending out the email about Elliot. Every little bit helps. I'm going to post a couple more times on Facebook and maybe do a little more word of mouth advertising before we try Craigslist. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he might end up staying, too. Both he and DS have mellowed a bit since the incident. I think his little doggie-brain understands that something really bad happened. DH says we're playing it by ear. I still think he'd be happier elsewhere, but I'm not settling for something that wouldn't be better than where he is now.

Have a great day, everyone.

DH neice who is in her 20's started to workout. She is doing Weider for strength training and looking for some beginner cardio workouts. I am not sure if she has space for a step or is interested in step. She is doing Turbo Jam and taebo and wants something else for a change. I am not sure what to recommend. Some people on her FB page recommended Turbo Fire and Insanity but those workouts are very advanced and hard on the knees. I was thinking of suggesting JM because I just don't consider her workouts to be too advanced. Can you recommend something that doesn't have a lot of equipement to start out with but is good. would you recommend Turbo Fire?

My workout today was CBS and Core#2 since I forgot to do the core yesterday. Core#2 really gets those obliques.

Sam---I bet you are happy to finish up your project. If I recall, you guys did some fresh painting too right. New colors and new furniture---Wow!

Brenda---I love working the hamstrings but I am worried about the form on the hip thrusts. I know I should concentrate on my form but it is a weird position. I was wondering if I should try the hip thrust move on the stability ball like in Butts and Gutts and do that 100 or more times if I am not able to master it on the step with the weights.

Karen---I don't think my triceps are getting a burning workout like the biceps so adding the 100 RC really helped. Then again, maybe I need to increase my weights or not skip those triceps dips:eek:---I hate those so I usually don't do them and do more kick backs or something.

Laurie--It's always nice to catch up on getting things organized.

Morning Ladies,

I made an error last night and put in Combat 60 Live, but I thought why not give it a try. Another great workout, and again I'm feeling my whole body. I'm always amazed at how these workouts make my arms so sore. POWER in the punch has to be the answer.

Karen, Sorry to hear that you may have the crud. :( Take care of yourself. It does feel really good to have one small thing organized. It is all about baby steps, still have the basement to look forward to.

Brenda, At least Saturday wasn't the frigid temps we have now, so you could be out in the cold. ;) DH and I decided that we have been putting off this organization thing for far to long, and he is actually looking at getting rid of some things he has kept from childhood. Yes that is what we have to look forward to.

Sam, I think that is what I like about Pintrest. The great ideas can be priceless, and I have found some ideas that can be solved by going to second hand stores. I'm planning on sewing up some grocery bags from old sheets. The amount of plastic bags that we bring back to the store is crazy. I don't want to use the ones they sell at the store, you can't wash them as easily. Why I never thought of sewing some up myself, boggles my mind. :D

heartymax, Congrats to your niece! If she likes taebo, then she probably would really enjoy these Combat workouts. There are some on youtube right now that she can probably look at to form an opinion. ;) I will try to find a link. What about Turbo Jam?

Have a great day!

Hello,

This morning I had hardstrikes (no conditioning) so I added on the Kbx from 4DS. I know some people don't like all the jacks in Hardstrikes, I don't mind them though.

Sam - Sounds like you've been having fun decorating the house. How exciting! I have one friend that is an absolute animal lover and lives in the country but she said they are maxed out when it comes to pets. She had a friend that just lost their dog so she was going to check with her to see if there was any interest. Glad things have been going okay between Elliott and DS.

Heartymax - Good for DH's niece. I agree, I think Insanity is a little too advance for someone getting into the workouts. What about some of the other Biggest Loser workouts. I've never previewed them so I have no idea what they are like. There is always Leslie, that might be too low key depending upon her fitness level.

Laurie - Your combat workouts like a lot of fun. I still haven't checked them out online.

BTW - I have a doc appt today at 4pm for my leg. Actually a good thing I'm going becasue the last two days my lower back has been acting up. Not sure what's up with that because it was feeling fine.

Keep warm!
Brenda

Good afternoon, everyone.

I did rounds 7-12 of Cardio Leg Blast. I hung out with Cedie at 8" ;) I really liked this half a lot. Way more fun for me than the floor cardio drills in the first half, though I liked that part too.

I enjoyed Burn Sets yesterday, too. Next time I'll try Cathe's weights for shoulders, I had a tough time reaching failure on the unilateral moves.

Heartymax- I was also going to suggest Turbo Jam. I had a lot of fun with it when I was just getting back into fitness.

Laurie- Have fun organizing. We just finished a big round of that, but everything's starting to build up already. My mom is getting ready to clear out my childhood bedroom, too. Not looking forward to the piles of stuff that will be headed our way because of that.

Brenda- I'm planning on subbing a different kickbox workout for Hard Strikes. I think it's an okay workout, I just enjoy Cathe's other kickbox offerings more. Thanks again for getting the word out about Elliot :)

DH took the car to work so he wouldn't have to walk in this cold, so DS and I are trapped at home today. I think he'll be watching a bit more TV than normal :p

Have a great day, everyone.

Morning Ladies,

I got home late from work last night, with stops for a few grocerys and gas for the car. I don't know why I waited until the coldest day of the week to do that. Anyway I got in Combat Hiit Power, and that was it. Proceeded to get dinner ready, and then did some dusting.

DH is getting some ideas together to update our dinning room, we have not touched that room since we moved into the house in '96. The wallpaper is a bit dated. ;)

Brenda, Hope the doc had some good news for you with your leg, I just can't imagine what pain you are going through with that. Sounds like you had a great workout. I totally understand about the jumping jacks. I'm sure that she does them because they jack the hr up. ;)

Sam, Sometimes the amount of stuff can get overwhelming at times. We have neglected the growing pile, doing some organizing at times, but we really need to do something. We want our basement done, so some of the junk has to go. Hope you where not to cooped up yesterday!

Have a great day!

Good morning! I just finished Burn Sets Bis and Tris. I love these Burn Sets workouts. No endless reps, pulses, low-ends, etc.

Laurie- It seems no matter how many times we organize, we always find stuff we should have thrown/given away the previous time around. For instance, I haven't scrapbooked in over a year, but last time we organized, DH bought me a huge cart to store all my scrapbooking stuff. Now I feel guilty if I get rid of all that stuff because the cart wasn't cheap. I guess I have no choice but to start scrapbooking again :p

DS and I made homemade playdough yesterday to pass the time. Yeah, homemade playdough doesn't turn out as nicely with whole wheat pastry flour

Have a great day, everyone!

Good Afternoon!!

This morning was disc 1 chest, back, and shoulders. I found a few of the exercises I need to jack up the weight a little. That and I need to put more air in my stability ball. :)

Well, went to the doc and they took x-rays and blood. My lymph nodes are swollen. I didn't know you had lymph nodes in the groin area. My doc was thinking I may have had a groin hernia. Got the call this morning from the doc with goods & bad news. Good news is that I have no infection in my system and right now they are ruling out the hernia. Bad news is not sure why my lymph nodes are swollen and I have moderate to servere arthritis in my left hip. She thinks that is where the majority of my pain is coming from. She gave me some meds to help the pain and to relax the muscles. Thankfully it is something that doesn't make me drowsey or keep me awake at night. I'm supposed to getting a phone call from another doc for the arthritis. I don't think it was orthopedic though. We'll see. I'm happy it's not a hernia but I'm bummed about the arthritis, even though it doesn't really surprise me because it runs in my family.

Sam - I was brave and used the three risers in cardio leg blast. It definitely makes a difference. I can't do it as fast as they do when they jump over the step, that's okay though. I'm not if I missed it or not but did you have any luck with a school for DS? I'm with you on the burn sets. Love them!!

Laurie - Have fun figuring out what to do with your dining area.

Back to work I must go.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
Brenda

Hi,

Just checking in quick. Haven't worked out since I got sick. Mon night I got a call for a long term subbing aide for sp. ed. I am doing that now so I have to try to get up early to do it or it won't happen. Right now I really hate early morning workouts, probably why I couldn't get up this am.

Brenda, glad at least you know what is wrong with your hip.

Sam, I like the Burn Set workouts a lot too. My DD and I made playdough yesterday also.

Laurie of course the day you decided to go out would be the coldest of the week. That's just how it works. Nice job getting in your workouts.

Have a great day.

Didn't workout yesterday because I didn't feel that great when i worke up. I feel better today and we have a school closing due to snow. I was going to do the Bi's and Tri's from yesterday but I went ahead with Legs and rear Delts since that is an 80 minute workout and I would have time to do it today.

Karen--because everyone has been talking about Cathe's weight selection in this workout, I went ahead and increased my weights. I used two 12lbs for the walking lunges. I used a 15 lbs for the plie wall squats----I need to go heavier so I will definitely do that next time. I also used two 15lbs for the one legged dead lifts.

Sam---how are those biceps today? Burn Sets definitely is named appropriately. I wish I had additional risers but I don't. Not do cardio blast--but for other stuff.

Brenda--we'll definitely take the good news from the doctor. Hopefully, the doctor can help you learn how to manage the pain from the arthritis.

Laurie--it has been very cold here too.

Morning Ladies,

Combat 60 was accomplished last night! DH and I hauled three bookshelves down into the basement last night. He got these really nice wood bookcases from work, and this will be great for organizing all of DH's books. ;) They are bursting at the seams in our upstairs library, and he re-reads all his books. I do of my favorite authors also, so I can't blame him. :D

Sam, I may have to get Burn-Sets if it doesn't involve low ends. Scrapbooking is one thing I haven't gotten into, but I do need to get rid of some yarn. I love to knit, and I have a lot of old stuff. ;) My sister loves to scrapbook, so I leave that to her. :D LOL on the playdough, that is a bummer.

Brenda, WTG on getting in a good upper body workout. What did the doc say about your cardio workouts? Hope the drug doesn't affect your sleep. Sorry to hear about the arthritis, but from what I understand exercise is good for you. I'm guessing this cold weather has brought on some of the pain also, and of course you where out in the cold on Saturday for a longer time than normal.

Karen, I figured that you where dealing with your cold. Even when you are used to getting up, it is hard. This cold weather just makes you want to stay in bed also. :D I'm sure you have even colder weather than we do, since my Mom has said it has been well below zero for them all week.

heartymax, WTG on the weights! Glad you are feeling better. ;) Have fun with your off day, I don't know that we will be having any of those snow days here. We have been getting dustings. Supose to get 3-4 inches tonight though. We will see. :D

Have a great day!

Hi!

This morning I had legs. I skipped the floor part as I didn't have enough time to do it all and that's my least favorite part anyway. :)

Today at work, we had people from the outside come in and give free 15 min massage. Yes, I did take advantage of that and it felt great even if it was only 15 min.

I have an appt on Feb 15th with an orthopedic doc about my hip, so then I'll find out more. I'm going to ask if the other things I'm experiencing with the leg is due to the arthritis. I know exercise will only continue to help it. I get more stiff when I don't move around much, which is why I hate my desk job so much, I sit too much. I know I will probably have to continue modifying my workouts like I have been. I hope this doesn't put me out of commission on doing step. I haven't done much step in a long time because of it and I really miss it. If it does, it is what it is and will have to do what I can. :)

Karen - Hope you feel better soon!

Heartymax - Kudos to you on the 80 min leg/rear delt workout. I don't know if I'll ever build up the endurance to do the entire workout.

Laurie - Thankfully the meds that the doc gave me don't affect my sleep. I don't feel I get enough the way it is without having meds affect it. I want to learn how to knit. I bought myself one of those small loons (I think that is what it is called). Did someone teach you to knit or did you learn on your own?

Have a great afternoon!
Brenda

Hi,

I managed to do Supercuts Extreme. A perfect easier workout for today.

When you guys had your cough did your chest hurt?

Brenda, I sure would have taken advantage of the massage also. I sure hope you can get back to your step. I still really enjoy Cathe's stepworkouts.

Laurie, do you still like your Combat workouts? One more thing organized--books. It has been way below zero all this week. The kids haven't even gone out for recesses this week.

Heartymax, glad you are feeling better today. That was good you upped the weight. Do you agree it was a bit light for typical Cathe leg work?

Have a great night.

Good evening, ladies.

I put off and put off my workout. I finally ended up doing the bonus barre, and most of the floorwork from legs. I miss step, so I think I'm going to sub it in for Hard Strikes tomorrow.

Heartymax- My biceps are definitely feeling it! But I swear they already look better :D

Laurie- I have the yarn problem too. I crochet a lot and have since college. All my scraps and abandoned projects have followed me. There's only a teensy bit of pulsing in the final burn set for triceps. I skipped it :p

Karen- My chest hurt at first, but that gradually went away as most of the gunk moved to my head.

Brenda- We've found a great place in Menomonee Falls. I'm looking into a couple other places in the area too. They'll have about 17 openings and it's first come, first serve, so I want to have a few backups just in case. I hope you get good news from your doctor. It must drive you insane to sit all day!

I have to get going on dinner. I've been dabbling in the paleo diet a bit lately and have a paleo recipe to try tonight. Have a great evening!

Xtrain Biceps and Triceps and Core 1 followed by the 100 rep challenge for the biceps. I used 10 lbs dumbells and that was perfect for me. Cathe's person ( I can't remember the new girls name) was using a 25lb barbell. I prefer dumbells when doing biceps.

Sam---I bet your biceps do look better.:D

Brenda---Trust me---I took enough breaks during that 80 minute workout. It was good for me as I don't usually do floor work and barre work so I just had to keep myself mentally focused to do it at all.

Laurie---I must admit that if I would recommend any one disc from Xtrain--it would be Burn Sets.

Karen---I totally agree that I was surprised how light Cathe went on the legs workout. It is not typical Cathe for sure. I also know that I may appreciate this workout as when I do STS by the time I get to Meso 3 when the weight is really heavy, my knees sometimes start to bother me and I have to lighten up for a period of time and then go back to heavy leg weights. This would be a good alternative when I am experiencing issues with my knees.

I saw in the newsletter that Cathe is planning a NJ roadtrip. If I recall recorrectly, Sam and Brenda have gone on a roadtrip. I have never done one but told DH last night that I want to consider going this summer if I can sign up in time. I don't like going places by myself but I may venture out. I could catch the train from DC to Philly and from what I read on the old roadtrip forums about NJ there is Rapid Rover transportation van that could take me to the hotel. I wll see-----I may change my mind---but I am seriously thinking about it.

Morning Ladies,

Got in Shock Plyo Hiit last night! That one really is tough, but I like it alot. ;) Had to get to dance class last night, so that 30 min. workout was as much as I could do.

Brenda, I have not been able to do step workouts, it really bothers my knee afterward. Nice that you could get a massage, even if it was only 15 min. ;) Glad to hear about the meds, not fun when you can't get to sleep at night. My mother was the one who taught me to knit, and she has been teaching any granddaughter that wants to learn also. Of the three grandsons that she has none of them has been interested. :D She also has a knitting class that she teaches.

Karen, I didn't have chest pains when I had that cough, but my youngest did. Yes I am loving the Combat workouts, they are right up there in the fun factor. There is only one workout that I have not tried, and that is the Combat 30 Live. I'm thinking about getting the other four workouts too.

Sam, Hey, at least you got something in for a workout. I have put off the workout, and then never gotten to it. ;) My mom is a master at crochet also, but that is not something that I have clicked with. Let us know how that recipe turned out?

heartymax, I'm sure that if you have the chance, go on the roadtrip. I missed the one that was in WI, becaue it was during the faire season. If that comes up again, I'm going. ;) Thanks for the second recommendation on Burn Sets.

Have a great weekend!
