Bruised toenail - what to do?

I have a really badly bruised big toe nail from golf course walking on Sunday, and would like some hints on what to do from you runners who I know get bruised toe nails a lot. I've had them before, but this one is worse. At what point do you want to go to a doc?

Um, queen of bruised toenails here! I start getting them any time I start upping my mileage to train for longer distances. For me, I have to get running shoes 1-2 sizes bigger than my normal shoes. Is it still throbbing?? If it is, you could try releasing some pressure. I used a sterilized needle & slid it under my toenail until it popped & *bled* the nail. Sounds really yucky (which it was) but it felt soooo much better once the pressure was relieved. I think if it's too painful to walk much then you could go see your doc. I just popped mine & kept on running. I've lost 3 toenails but now since I've been wearing the right shoe 2 sizes bigger for room in the toebox I haven't had any more problems.

HTH & I know how it feels!

Hugs,

I get these frequently from power walking. I also try to relieve the pressure underneath the nail, and soon enough, the nail starts to pry loose and I remove it with nail scissors. A new one grows back soon enough. Not t oworry.

Oh my goodness, this sounds painful. I'm not a runner so I can't offer any advice. But I hope your toe is better soon. :)
