Bringing up the Rear Check-In

The 4 day weekend went by fast and I already feel like I need time off work again. Thursday I finished out Get Glutes month 2 and then Tabatacise because after that I had 2 Thanksgivings, 1 with my family and one with DH’s. Friday I did Supercuts Extreme and did some shopping. Saturday was errands and a rest day. Sunday I started Get Glutes month 3 and then DH’s sister and brother and their families came over to watch a football game. This morning I did Circuit Blast and made it an extreme premix by repeating the odd number rounds.

Carolyn I am so sorry about your boxer. I did not know that about boxer’s eyes. We had a boxer for 11 years before we had to say goodbye because of pancreatic cancer. We now have a second boxer, Ozzie, and Maggie who is a lab/pit mix. I’ll be praying your baby doesn’t lose her eye. Please keep us posted. I am an animal lover but dogs will also be number 1 in my heart. Great job on breaking 100 on those HT!

Kate Bret’s email was funny! He is a goofball for sure. How are you anchoring your legs for the Russian leg curls? I am still trying to figure out how I am going to do those. Great job on those shaky legs!

Have a great day!

Carolyn I am so happy that Ellie's eye is getting better. Any time one of our babies is hurt or sick, it about breaks my heart. We are definitely a boxer family. We love all dogs but there is something about boxers. The breeder we got our first boxer from warned us that you can't stop at just one. That once you adopt your first, you will want one in your life from then on. Can't say he is wrong. I forgot to also show you a "cone" I used when Ozzie had surgery a year ago. It allowed him to eat and drink and basically do everything else but still prevented him from ripping out his stitches on his side.

Hi guys !
Carolyn ,
I started to well up when I read your description of what your Boxer is going through - I'm so glad that there's some good news ! Boy , when a pet is down , they're really down and then they can just rally and it's almost shocking . I hope that she only continues to get better ! YAY on those HT's - That's a great milestone !
Julie ,
I can't do the Russian leg curl like Bret does it - that would kill my knees . I just do the roll outs on the stability ball . Later in the demo he says thats an option . I managed to do the whole B&G dvd ! I went really light on the squats [ 24 lbs. ] and only that 5 lb. db on the static lunges . I'm pretty sore today and my knee is a bit sore too but it's kinda what I'd expect after laying off those moves for over month . Tonight I did S&G [ thats gonna get old really fast ! ]
Have a great night !

Hello!
Today I did Flextrain; I feel like I need to do some extra cardio/metabolic w/o's this week after all that turkey!

Carolyn I'm so glad to hear about Ellie; sounds like she's on the way to recovery I'm sure you are relieved!

My new job is going fine; it's always stressful trying to learn new things and get acclimated to a new place but for only being there a month I think it's going pretty well and everyone seems to be really nice so that's good. Thanks for asking!

Are your shoulders tired today? Mine are!

Here's a link to Bret's email Thankful for You!

Julie was it the Bears game you watched? Pretty disappointing huh??? :(

Have a good night!

This morning I did Cycle Max Scrambled Style. It is only Tuesday and I am already really dragging. I hope I can find some energy soon. I am supposed to donate blood today and I have meetings almost all day. I am tired just thinking about it all.

Kate Doing S&G all the time would get old. Do you feel your knee is getting better even with it being sore? I am going to try to anchor my feet under a loaded barbell for the Russian leg curls but if it doesn’t work, I will probably do the stability ball leg curls too.

Amanda I am doing extra metabolic workouts this entire month. I am aiming for 2 metabolic and 1 hiit workout each week Hopefully that will help stave off the holiday fat creep. So glad to hear your job is going well even if it is stressful. We watched the Colts game. DH’s sister is a Colts fan, DH is a Packers fan. So DH was actually happy about the Bears game. Sorry :(

Have a great day!

Hi ladies !
Carolyn ,
So glad to hear Ellie's better . I know what you mean about the ," Stink " . My black lab Sami , had to have both of her knees fixed and she had the cone and had to be in her crate for 8 weeks . Yikes . She's great now but the stuff you go through when they're totally dependent on you ! How did your knee do with those step ups ? I tried them on my steps and took 2 at a time - it felt so so . Is Bret a riot or what ?
Julie ,
My knee is getting better very slowly . I've been trying to test the lunges and squats with very light weight and so far , it's okay . I can't wait to hear how you do with those RLC's ! Have you seen any of month #4 yet ? Marianne demo's this thing called , " Turkish Get Up's " . It looks impossible ! I say that mostly because I don't have the patience to sit through the whole demo - you'll see what I mean ....
Tonight I did #1 from month #3 and added some barbell chest presses : Conventional Deadlift - 1x10 @85 , 1x10 @95 , 1x10 @105 . Bent Over BB Row - 1x8 @45 , 1x8 @55 , 1x8 @65 . Subbed static lunge for walking lunge - 1x10 @20 . 1x10 @24 , !x10 @30 . Seated one arm Arnold 1x8 @ 15 1x8 @ 17 , 1x8 @ 20 . Body weight reverse hyper 3x20 . PPHT burnout 2x50 @ 85 . Barbell chest press 3x10 @45 . Bodysaw 2x15 .
Have a great night !

Today I did x42 that was tough! I was drenched by the end!

Kate I know what you mean about the GG demos being too long; I FF a lot because sometimes they talk too much :)

Have a good night!

This morning I did Get Glutes: 1 leg ht feet & shoulders elevated 3x12 (loved these really felt them in the tooshie), close grip bench press 3x10 @ 75, zercher step ups 3x12 @ 45, Russian leg curls 2x5, band rotary hold 2x10sec., and wide grip lat pulldowns 3x10 (no idea on weight since the plates are not marked on my very old machine). I also added on some farmer’s walks and extra back work. I was getting a little light headed in between my step ups and am hoping it was because I donated blood yesterday and was still a little weak from that. Hopefully next week will be better.

Carolyn Great minds think alike with picking the same workout! I am one of those people that music doesn’t do much for me most of the time. Sometimes I find it helps but most of the time I tune it out. I can see that the cone I had wouldn’t work for keeping paws and objects away from the face. I remember using one of those cones on our first boxer and he slobbered something fierce and it was so disgusting.

Kate I was able to do the RLC by putting 40 pounds on each side of my barbell and then anchoring the barbell in place by putting 30 pound dumbbells in front of the plates so it didn’t roll. I then put my feet under the barbell to anchor them in place (if that all makes sense). I actually thought they were kind of easy which probably means I am pushing off the ground too much. I did see the TGU. I am a little excited and yet nervous about that. I have noticed Marianne is the queen of awkward moves.

Amanda X10 is killer. I remember trying to do the whole thing the first time and the step segment alone about killed me. Cathe apparently forgot we like when she stalls a little. Those demos are long. I usually watch the first part where they just do the moves and then stop it and look only at the exercises I am unsure about how to do or need substitutes for.

Have a great day!

Good morning !
Yesterday I did Slow and Heavy Bi's and Tri's - killer ! I'm looking forward to doing the other 2 sections . This w/o seems designed to increase your pain threshold as well !
Amanda ,
I really love X10 ! I FF through the GG demo's too . I really like Marianne but hers do seem the longest . The again , sometimes Bret's aren't detailed enough ...
Julie ,
I love those 1 leg HT's as well ! I think it's the big range of motion that makes them so effective . I think you did the RLC perfectly . That's funny about Marianne - I was thinking the same thing .You worked out like that after giving blood ? That's hardcore !
Carolyn .
I don't think you'd have 2 left feet doing the rest of X10 . But a lot of it can be very high impact which I'm sure you could modify . I didn't find the moves to be complex at all . Is Ellie doing better ?

Have a great day !

For some reason I woke up at midnight last night thinking about work issues and had a hard time falling back to sleep. I finally did but probably only got another hour and a half. I really wanted to stay in the nice warm bed but I did get up and do Afterburn Double Trouble.

Carolyn X10 is pretty much athletic moves and ones we have done before. I understand though about not wanting to try new workouts in case you end up wasting the work out. That is kind of how I feel about the new step workouts from the last “series”. I love step but don’t want to waste my workout staring at the tv since I tend to take longer to learn it. Bulgarians and walking lunges seem to make my glutes scream too. Oh no, you better have a talk with Ellie about not rubbing her eye so it can get better. Boxers do tend to do things they shouldn’t and are quite sneaky about it.

Kate You are right it is the range of motion in those 1 leg ht that really do it. I tried doing a Turkish Get Up after Afterburn this morning (ok maybe that was not a bright idea). I didn’t use weight and it wasn’t as awkward of a move as I thought it would be but I definitely won’t be able to go heavy or fast. I have a very hard time holding back on my workouts. If it is on the calendar, I do it. I wish I could listen to my body better.

Have a great day!

Today I did GG month 3 w/o #1 conventional deadlift 3x5 @70, barbell row 3x8 @ 65, walking lunges 3x20 with 10's, Arnold press 3x8 with 15's, PPHT 2x50 with 30 second hold-bw, body saw 2x12. This one is one of my favorites; I can feel the DOMS setting in.

Carolyn I had to chuckle about Ellie rubbing her eye on the couch- dogs are just like kids; always finding a way to do something they're not supposed to. Hopefully that means it's healing since it's maybe more itchy right now.

Kate I've only done X10 twice I'll have to add it in more; I really felt like I needed to work on my cardio afterwards I was totally spent. I did enjoy it though!

Yes Marianne's seem to be the longest; I do love her voice though :)

Julie I hate when that happens; I hope you have a better nights rest tonight! You're die hard to still get up and workout; when I worked out in the mornings if that happened to me I usually just reset the alarm!

Have a good night!

Good morning !
Ugh . Really dark and rainy this A.M.
Carolyn ,
Poor Ellie ! My dog Hank does that rubbing thing on the arms of the couch and chairs . It's almost impossible to stop . You're right , they find any and all ways to get at what they want to , cone or not ! I don't know if this would help but they do make cones that are longer than average - not that this would stop her from rubbing against the cone , but at least you can sterilize the cone . B&G is the best ! Hurray for DOMS !
Amanda ,
I love her voice too ! That's a great GG w/o - awesome numbers - 3x8 @65 for rows is really tough !
Julie ,
Ugh , waking up in the middle of the night is the worst . It's awful when you can't turn your mind off - hopefully you can make up some sleep over the weekend . I'm glad you figured out the TGU ! I skipped it , but maybe some day .....
Last night I did GG month #4 w/o #1 : Jefferson Deadlift 1x8 , 2x5 @ 45 each side . Single leg foot elevated HT 3x15 . Barbell American HT 2x10 @95 , 2x10 @ 115 , 1x10 @ 145 Lbs. . Renegade row / Push up combo 2x5 w/ 20's . Seated band abduction 5x 30 sec. hold . Kettelbell rack hold and overhead carries complex - 3x15 sec.in each position w/ 15 lbs.
I added one arm rows - 2x12 @25 lbs. and 2x12 push - ups because I was DREADFUL at the row push - up combo !
Have a great day !

This morning I did not have any energy in spite of getting decent sleep. I did wake up about an hour before my alarm went off and didn’t really go back to sleep so maybe that was it. Anyway, I stumbled through my Get Glutes workout: lateral lunges 3x8@15,20,20; military press w/windmill 3x8@15; 1-leg deadlift 3x12@10; db row 3x8@25, ht 1x15 & 1x12 @155. Then I did 30/30 . Last time I did 30/30, I did it without breaks but this time with my low energy I had to take pauses after every 4 rounds. I think I better rest up over the weekend so I can be back to normal next week. Let’s see if I can actually listen to my own advice this time.

Amanda Those body saws left me with DOMS in my lower abs for about 3 days. It hurt to sneeze. I hope that means good things for my poochy belly. I love Marianne’s voice too! In hindsight, I should have slept in yesterday. I probably would have had a better workout today.

Carolyn I am glad you can walk today. Sometimes I feel that way too at night from my morning workout and then the next day I am surprised by no DOMS or very little soreness.

Kate Look at your HT numbers!!! You are really moving along on the ht, yea!!! I am a little nervous about the row/pushup combo too. Marianne makes it look seamless and beautiful and I have a feeling I will be wobbly and ugly.

Have a great day! So happy it is FRIDAY!!!!

Today I did Supercuts; It's been awhile since I've done that one I forgot about the sit-up/push-up combos at the end....what a burner!

Julie how do you like that windmill exercise?

I know what you mean about thinking you're going to get DOMS and then surprisingly you don't. I thought sure I would after my GG the other night; I sure did the first time I did that one but I woke up without any soreness.

Have a good rest of the weekend!

Saturday DH and I had fun sitting in the mechanic’s shop for 2 hours while some work got done on his car. Then we ran several errands and got most of the Christmas shopping done. After getting home, I was lazy the rest of the night. Sunday I did Get Glutes: CDL 3x5@105,110,115, BB Row 3x8@87, walking lunges 3x20@16, Arnold press 3x8@21, reverse hypers 3x20@bw, posterior pelvic ht 1x100 (I HATE high rep!), body saw 2x12. Then it was lazy time the rest of the day. This morning was X52 (with extra breaks because man that one is still hard)!

Amanda I love Supercuts! I think it may actually be one of my favorite Cathes because it is fun and has no dread factor for me. But the su/pu combo is killer at the end. Sometimes when I flip over to do the next set up situps, I just want to stay laying there. Usually at the midway point. The windmill was ok. I am going to give it another chance and see if it grows on me. The first set I did actually ended up being a side bend … whoops! I realized what I did and changed it on the second and third sets.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone !
I hope you all had a nice [ and restful , hopefully ] weekend . I've been able to do some of Cathe's low impact cardio's - Afterburn , Cardio Supersets , which is such a relief ! Also been loving the Slow and Heavy series - I can't remember a time when a 5 Lb. weight kicked my butt like the shoulder work did but my rear delts cramped up so bad I kept having to stop ! I did the chest and back tonight and followed w/ Get Glutes month #4 w/o #2 : Barbell Glute bridge 2x10 @ 125 , 2x10 @ 145 , 2x50 @ 95 lbs. One Arm inverted row [ I just did reg. rows ] 1x10 @ 20 , 1x10 @ 25 , 1x10 @ 30 lbs. each side . Step ups [ I just used BW ] 3x8 each side . Standing DB overhead press 1x12 @ 12 , 1x12 @ 15 lbs. Palloff walkout 3x5 each side . Stability ball prone toe tap 3x10 each side . Side lying hip raise straight leg 2x10 each side .
Carolyn ,
Good on you working out first thing in the AM ! I used to really prefer it too . Isn't that weird when the DOMS are so intense but then the next day they're so much less ? Supercuts is great ! That sit up / push up combo is no joke - I've never been able to do all the reps . I can see how you'd feel that your upper body might not be worked out enough in the Get Glutes program - do they believe that it's a comprehensive total body work out ?
Julie ,
I guess the HT's are coming along ! Does it feel to you like once you get above a certain number that it all rates as , ' hard ' ? I tend to notice more of a difference when I lighten the weights - like tonight I went down from 145 to 90 on the GB and almost tossed the bar out of my lap . [ Crazy visual , I know ! ] I hear ya on those the body saw ! The DOMS in my lower abs were also like that for 3 days . Great job on X52 ! And you finished Xmas shopping ? That must be a relief !
Have a great night !

This morning I did Ride. This is the one that I swear Cathe says your “breasts are accelerating” during the warm up. I know she really says “breath” but still it makes me smile. We got our first snow on Sunday that actually stuck. Only an inch but it is so cold outside now. I think we might be getting more snow tonight or tomorrow. Yuck!

Carolyn I love Supercuts! It is one that I always have so much fun doing and no dread factor. I have to admit I cheat on the su/pu combo. I slow Cathe down on the DVD player to a slower speed. It is kind of funny because then she talks really slow like she is drunk. If I remember right, the Strong Curves you are doing is strictly lower body. I did that one over the summer and added Xtrain and Gym Styles to it to keep my upper body going.

Kate That sounds like good news that you can do more cardio options. That is some crazy heavy weight on those bridges. I am not sure if there was a certain weight that everything after that was hard too. I do know what you mean about almost tossing the bar out of your lap. Whenever I lower the weight to do high rep after completing some heavy low rep, I always feel like the weight is light as a feather (for the first few reps anyway).

Have a great day!

Hi guys !
I did Slow and heavy Bi's & Tri's tonight and I've already got DOMS - that one is almost pure pain ! After that I did GG , " Booty Blast Conditioning Workout ". It's 3 rounds of 6 moves and it's easy to do pretty quickly . I got a charlie horse in my glutes and had to stop at first - I guess that's progress ?
Carolyn ,
Crossfire is great ! I hope your knee feels okay - laterals are tough . It's kind of fun when the dogs get excited by your workout isn't it ? You're so right - I never thought I'd miss the cardio so much .
Julie ,
I figured the snow had to be hitting you by now . We finally got a few inches today . Now , is that the same quote you thought you heard before ? Why do I remember it as , " Your breasts becoming labored " ? That was funny last night with the barbell . Kellie said to go really heavy on the GB , then reduce the weight to do a high rep. set . It felt so light , I ended up doing 2 sets ...
Have a great night !

Hi everyone!
I hurt my hip at the end of last week; I think maybe I tweaked it doing deadlifts, I woke up Saturday morning and it hurt but then later it felt okay so I did Supercuts and that was a huge mistake I made it worse- maybe the sit outs or going back and forth for the push-up/sit-up combo?? Anyways I took a rest day yesterday and today. I'm only going to do upper body for the rest of the week and hope it gets better. Just when I started to get back in a routine-I hate that!

We got a few inches of snow Sunday night and are supposed to get more tonight it's been really cold!

Hi Carolyn! Hope your knee feels okay tomorrow! How's Ellie? My dogs always want to hop all over me when I'm down on the floor working out. My puppy used to like and try to bite at my slide N glide discs when I used them.

Kate what's the booty blast workout?

Did you ladies watch the challenge between Marianne, Kellie and Bret? Marianne's funny-it made me laugh when she started giggling halfway through the w/o I do that sometimes too when it gets really tough! I don't know how Kellie did that one leg trap bar deadlift and Bret's an animal.

Have a good night!

This morning I did Get Glutes: 1-leg ht 3x12@15, close grip bp 3x10@75, zercher step up 3x12@45, Russian leg curls 2x5, band rotary hold 2x10 seconds and added on farmer’s walks and extra back work.

Carolyn I hope your knee is doing great today! Crossfire is fun and I bet that was cute having your fox terrier chase you. When we first got Ozzie, I wasn’t sure how he would do with Maggie so I quarantined him in my workout room with me. He used to try to bite my ankles when I was doing spinning. Let us know how the vet appointment goes. I feel like I am always wishing my life away waiting for the weekend.

Kate I have been tempted to try the conditioning workouts they put together on GG but then I always find it easier to stick in a Cathe DVD for my cardio. That’s good to know that they do activate the cheeks. I think Cathe says that other quote in another workout (can’t remember which one now). Apparently I can’t tell when Cathe says “breath” or “breasts”.

Amanda Oh no! I’m so sorry about your hip! You are doing the right thing in resting it. So cute about the slide n glide discs! Gotta love those crazy dogs. I haven’t watched the challenge yet. I need to now. I bet Marianne has a cute giggle.

Have a great day!
