Bringing up the Rear Check-In

Morning girls !
Why did I get up at 4:30 Sat. A.M ????
Last night I did the floor section and bonus from Great Glutes . I'm not sure why , but maybe I thought it would be a good glute activation warm up . I used a 5 lb. ankle weight for the floor part - must say , I didn't feel it that much compared to the burn I used to get from B&G . Maybe you need to do all of those squats and lunges first ?
I was going to try Get Glutes strength #2 but decided to add a bit of it to my set instead .
Deadlifts : w/u 1x30 @ 45 Lbs. ,2x10 @85 Lbs. , 1x10 @ 95 Lbs. Romanian Deadlift : 1x12 @ 15 Lbs. , 1x12 @ 20 Lbs. , 1x12 @ 25 Lbs. Single leg HT : 2x20 @ 55 Lbs. each side HT : 3x20 @ 95 Lbs. 2x10 @ 125 Lbs. - 20 sec. hold 1st set , 20 sec hold 2nd set .
Carolyn ,
I didn't use any weight for the RDL until I figured out that I had to be able to steady myself in order to do them at all . I tried it with my 25# last night and could really feel it at the end of the set - but I've been practicing a lot and had done pizza presses first . I don't know why my DB's came out of the box like that - the last piece of equipment that had any grease was my barbel and that was pretty slight . Have a great sweatfest today ! I totally know how that feels to need that - enjoy !
Julie ,
I figured when you said you lived in central Ill. you'd know of Macomb . I think the University is really the only reason anyone would know about it . Small world indeed ! There's a longer version of that song in KPC - it goes really well with the combo's in that section - I really miss KPC !
I wanted to ask both of you - do you use lifting gloves ? I really don't because w/o's seem easier without them but I just tried again . My hands and forearms were on fire ! I must feel like I need to hold on much tighter or something - I do much better without them ...
More coffee for me -
Have a great day !

Yesterday morning I did Get Glutes work and extra upper body work. Then DH and I had the start to our typical lazy day Sunday which was interrupted a little after 11 with a tornado warning to take shelter. Tornadoes in November! I have lived in Central IL my entire life and can never remember a tornado in November. So we turn on the news and yep there is one that just went through the town I grew up in and is headed towards our small town. I took the dogs downstairs and DH (of course) went outside with the neighbors to look for the tornado. A few minutes later, I hear DH hauling down the stairs and yelling for me to get in the bathroom. He threw poor Maggie into the tub and told me to hold her there. He said he saw the tornado and it was headed towards town. It must have ended up turning just before it got to town though because there was no damage to any of the houses in town but all the power lines are down, there are farm houses and buildings missing or with severe damage. We are lucky though. The town of Washington where I grew up has so much damage it is insane. My brother, sister-in-law, and father-in-law live in Washington but I think they were at the end of town that did not get hit. This article mentions Roanoke which is 15 miles east of Washington. I live about 5 miles east of Roanoke. The power is still out and there is no estimated time from the power company on when they will get it back up.

Kate Um 4:30 on a Saturday! I guess I get up around that time to feed the dogs but I go back to bed after that. I do use lifting gloves. I have really sweaty hands when I work out and I feel like I might drop the weight without them. I also got callouses before I used the gloves but seem to be ok with them.

Carolyn Yea! I love that firey feeling in my glutes. Mine are really sore today and I think it is the Bulgarian split squats that do it to me too. Those must really get in good and do something.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone!
I know I've been really bad with posting lately; I haven't been feeling that great and I've been working long hours at my new job so haven't been working out that much....it may continue like this for awhile.

Julie I'm so glad to hear you're okay; I was thinking about you yesterday and this morning. That must have been pretty scary! I live in the western suburbs of Chicago so I was hearing all the reports yesterday. I lived in Bloomington for about 8 years and am now back up north (grew up around here) funny enough my mom and step-dad decided to move south to Bloomington area while I was down there and now I'm back up here
Hopefully you get your power back soon.

Hi guys !
Julie ,
Boy , do I remember that midwestern weather ! I'm so glad you're okay - that is WAY too close for comfort . I saw them too when I lived in Macomb but they always jumped over town . I'm sorry about your power - I hope you get it back soon . That's so wild to have them in November - I really hope that's the last of them .
Carolyn ,
Freaky weather here too - 65 today ! I know it's nice and all but for some reason it made me feel really pokey and unmotivated - just couldn't pull out all the heavy weights today .
I did the floor portion of B&G - the one where she repeats all the hard moves twice . I did use a 5 Lb. ankle weight . Then I did the reverse hypers and the 100 HT's from GG all body weight only .
Everybody be safe , and have a great night !

Last night after work I went home and did Intensity using my portable DVD player. We still didn’t have power so we packed some clothes and all the food in the refrigerator and headed to my mom’s house. Stayed the night with her last night and when we woke up this morning we had a text message from the electric company that our power was restored. We’ll probably stay with my mom again tonight just to give the fridge time to get cold before we bring all the food back.

Carolyn That was really nice of you to go for a walk with your neighbor. I can’t believe the devastation either. I haven’t seen it in person yet but I imagine it will be unreal when I go there and see the missing houses.

Amanda I’m so sorry you are going through a stressful busy time. I hope it doesn’t last long and do get to feeling better soon. I work in Bloomington. That is too crazy that you used to live here and your mom lives here now. Hopefully your mom likes living down here even though it is farther away from you.

Kate Oh boy that floor portion in B&G is killer. Or at least I think so. I will gladly take some of your freaky 60s weather. We are in the 40s here which is probably pretty normal but I am not ready for the cold yet.

Have a great day!

Last night I stopped by my house after work to do my Get Glutes workout: 3x8 HT w/8 sec pause @ 165, push press 1x5 @ 65 2x5 @ 63, sliding skater squat 3x6 @ 20, chest supported row 3x10 @ 20, skipped the prone trap raise but did the band rotation twist and plank with the glute kickback. Tonight we will move everything back from my mom’s to our house so probably no workout. Will start back on normal schedule tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Hi Julie -
So glad to hear your power is back on and that you were able to get all the food out of the fridge before it was too late . Also good to hear that your mom is okay and didn't suffer too much damage . We lost power for almost 2 weeks several years ago and I think it was harder on my mom than the rest of us - she likes to be in control of her house [ like most moms ] and you really have to try and let go a bit and just make due when the power's out . I feel like it's been a really mild fall this year [ last year was Sandy - yikes ! ] . I wish I could send you our weather ! Very impressive that you got your w/o in last night - not that I'm surprised ... I liked those band rotations once I got the form down . Last night
I did GG month #3 strength w/o #1 : Deadlift - 1x20 @45 , 1x8 @75 , 1x8 @ 85 , 1x8 @ 95 , 1x6 @ 100 [ YAY !] . Bent over barbell row - 1x8 @ 45 , 1x8 @ 55 , 1x8 @ 65 . Seated one arm arnold press - 1x8 @ 15 , 1x8 @ 17 , 1x8 @ 20 . Body weight reverse hypers 3x15 . PPHT HT 1x100 @ 65 20 sec. hold . Body saw 2x12 . Plan on doing PUB later tonight .
I hope you get a good sleep in your own bed tonight !

This morning I got back on my normal schedule and did Ride. At one point during the warm up, Cathe says something like “your breathe is getting labored” but it sounds like “your breasts are getting labored” and I always smirk and think “I hope not!” So while my day started out good, on my way to my van pool, I ran over a bunny :( I was so upset I gave myself a headache.

Kate We did have to throw some stuff out like the milk, lunch meat, and cheese. I wasn’t taking a chance on those. Also the ice cream had to be thrown out too from the freezer because it was soup. Our weather has been all over the place. Part of the week will be in the low 40s then we get up to the high 50s for a few days then back to the 40s. I wish it would just pick a temp and stay there. Awesome numbers on those weights. Did you really use 65 lbs for the PPHT?!? You are awesome! I saw those and thought bodyweight.

Have a great day!

Good morning -
Our first snow ! It's only a dusting , but we got down into the single digits last night .
I got to work out for the first time in almost 3 days yesterday [ I know , ' horrors ' , right ? But it felt like a long time ! ] I think I should start doing it in the early A.M. ....
I finally did GG w/o #3 and it was mostly bodyweight - Single leg HT [ Bottoms up ] 3x20 each leg . Zerker step ups - [ I can't do those right now , so I did the set on my stairs holding on to the rail 3x12 , Russian leg curl - on stability ball 2x20 , Band rotation w/ hold 2x10 w/ 10 sec. hold each rep . After that I did the floor premix of B&G w/ 5lb. ankle weights . Those 2 w/o's go really well together !
Julie -
I am so sorry about that ! It's just awful when that happens . The first time that happened to me was when I moved to Upstate NY - I was going to work at 4 AM , it was dark and a deer ran out in front of me . It still upsets me . Yep , I did PPHT @65 - I've done it with the weight and without but I don't feel much with BW only . I do have to pause at around 50 reps , so I should really call it 2x50 vs. 1x100 .

I really hope my breasts aren't getting labored [ ! ]

Carolyn ,
I think you might like the GG w/o I did yesterday . I found it to be very knee friendly . I totally understand what you say about the hydrants - I have to be careful of those too . I haven't tried any of the bands from Amazon . PP sounds like a great cardio w/o !
Have a great day !

Sorry about not posting since Thursday. Friday I ended up staying home because Thursday night Maggie was coughing and having trouble breathing. I took her to the vet and I think it is an infection. They put her on antibiotics and if she is not better by next Monday, they might biopsy her lymph nodes because they were swollen. Any Friday morning, I did get my Get Glutes workout in plus did DWP: squats 3x6@105, pushups 2x20, 1x15, db back extensions 3x10@25, fast gb 2x30@40, side lying hip raise 2x10, crunches 2x25. Saturday I helped my mom clean her house in preparation for Thanksgiving then ran errands. Sunday I did Get Glutes: Bulg Split Squats 2x8@22, 2x5@27, sumo dl 2x12@130, 2x8@140, bench press 1x7@90, 2x7@88, assisted pullups 3x7, 1 leg stability ball curl 3x12, side bend 3x12@12, pull throughs 3x20. Then it was lazy day. This morning I did Imax 3.

Carolyn Those hydrants can irate my hips too if I lift too high. I have never purchased loops from amazon but I did get regular long bands from amazon. I think they were Thera band brand. They are ok but the x-heavy is about equal to Cathe’s medium strength band so I was a little disappointed. Just something to consider when purchasing other brands. I don’t think it is easy to tell the strength online.

Kate I have come close to hitting deer. That would be much worse than hitting a bunny. The bunny did nothing to my car but I am sure a deer collision would not hold up well. 2x50 still count in my book. I often times have to take “mini breaks” in order to complete sets especially with pullups or high rep pushups.

Have a great day!

Julie ,
I'm so sorry to hear about Maggie not feeling well . I have 2 labs , a brother and sister from different litters but the same ," Parents ". They mean everything to me , so I know how it feels when they're not themselves - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that her lymph nodes are just swollen from the infection and that it will clear up really soon . I'm still in awe of your numbers - how long did it take to get them so high ? @90 for bench presses , over 100 for squats , almost 200 for HT's [ ! ] I can see , very slowly , getting up there with my lower body one day [ not 130 for the sumo's though - wow ! ] But my UB is really lagging . Do you feel that you get a better result training a muscle 2-3 times a week ? Or do you prefer going all out once a week like in STS ? It seems I might need to hit it 2-3 x a week . I hope you don't mind all these questions - I'm just really interested !
Sleep well , and have a great night !

Hi Ladies,
This weekend I did GG month 3 w/o #2 lateral lunge 3x8 @15's, single leg Romanian DL 3x12 @ 12's, military press 1x6 @50, 2x8 @45 (I didn't do that windmill thing) barbell row 3x8 @55, HT 2x25 @70.

Yesterday I did Athletic Training and today I did Flex Train; my shoulders are toast!

I already have GG month 4 yikes I'm behind! I didn't review it yet just noticed it today.

Julie I hope Maggie is feeling better soon! I have 2 small dogs so I know how it is when one of your babies gets sick!

Kate do you have STS yet; I know you were talking about it it's an amazing deal today on DOTD!!! Kate you used to have to go to work at 4 a.m. eeek!

We got some snow too today and it's been really cold these past few days...winter is coming!

Carolyn the firewalkers are on sale again today!! Did you find anything on Amazon? I think I might get a spare set because they're so cheap; I'll probably end up paying more for shipping I hate that!

Have a good night!

This morning I did Get Glutes: HT w/8 second pause at top 3x8@170, Push Press 2x5,1x4@65, sliding skater squat 3x6@22, chest supported row 3x10@22, skipped prone trap raise, band rotation 2x12 ea. side, plank w/glute kickback 2x12 ea. side. I think Maggie is doing better which leads me to believe it is an infection not lymphoma. Last night she was acting more like herself!

Kate Thanks for the well wishes for Maggie! DH and I don’t have kids so we definitely feel like our dogs are our children and hate seeing them sick. I have been lifting heavy for almost 3 years pretty consistently with the exception of taking 2-4 weeks off at a time 2-3 times a year. I have gone through STS 3 times, once using Meso 1 and 2 times scrapping M1 and replacing it with Gym Styles or Pure Strength. I feel like STS pushed me to increase my weights but I like doing full body 3 times a week I just think Get Glutes is very skimpy on upper body. I would say if you want to work on your upper body to add a few exercises to Get Glutes but stick to compound moves. The first month of Get Glutes did not include bench press but I added it in and did 3x12. I would say stick to adding in 1 or 2 chest/push and 3 to 4 back/pull compound moves and that should help. I definitely did not get to 90 pound bench press overnight or 100+ on squats either. Actually I tend to get up to high numbers and then need to back off to work on my form before moving back up so if you looked at my numbers on a graph it would go up and down and up and down. Sorry for the long winded reply.

Amanda At first I thought you used 50 pounds for the windmills and was like OMG!!! I was thinking about subbing military press for the windmills too just because they look a little iffy to me. I will probably try it once and see. Thanks for thinking of Maggie. Yep, our dogs are our babies too.

Have a great day!

Hi girls !
Just got through GG #1 month #3, but I left out the upper body because I'm still sore from PUB from last night . I'll add those to my UB w/o on Thursday . Deadlift w/u 1x30 @45 Lbs. 2x10 @85 , 1x10 @95 , 1x10 @105 . Single leg HT 2x20 @55 . HT 3x20 @ 95 , 2x10 @125 , 1x10 @135 max hold 20 Sec. Elevated GB : 2x20 @ 75 Lbs. , Reg GB 2x20 @ 75 . Body weight Reverse Hyper 3x20 . Body Saw 2x20 .
Amanda -
I think I let out a gasp when I read your military press at 50 Lbs. ! I thought you did that with one arm - unless you did and then more power to ya ! I can do a few single arm reps with my 20 but even my barbel at 50 sounds impossible - something to work towards , I guess ... Oh , I saw that STS deal ! I do already have it but that's a great price .
Julie -
I'm so glad Maggie feels better ! I know what you mean , my dogs are my kids too . Thanks for telling about your workout - you were not long winded at all , I asked a lot of questions . Get Glutes doesn't have much upper body at all but I have started to add what's there to my UB w/o's . This month it's PUB and TB trisets . I like the idea of adding compound moves - I've started doing the Rows with the barbel , so now I'll start adding barbel work to the chest presses - I've only done those with DB's so far ...
Have a great night !

Hi!
Today I did Rockout Knockout; that will probably be my last workout this week I'm having company the rest of the week.

Whoa one arm military press with 50lbs would be crazy!!! :D The windmill part looked a little odd so I subbed and did standard military press. Kate what did you think about that exercise; did you do it the way they describe?

You're doing great with your HT 135 is awesome!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

This morning I did X52! Again that one slays me but I did take less breaks this time!! So glad this is the last day of work. I am ready for a 4 day weekend!

Kate Awesome numbers again! Every time I see you using weights for the 1 leg ht I am in awe of your strength. I just can’t do those weighted. Barbell bench presses are in my opinion much more effective than using dumbbells. You can go so much heavier. I may be able to do 90 pounds with a barbell but would not be able to use 45 pound dumbbells.

Amanda Enjoy your company! The windmill part looks a little odd to me too and a little like an accident waiting to happen with my balance. I did see on the GG forum someone thought the windmills were to help prep us for the Turkish get up in month 4. I’ve never done those so I am anxious to see what they are.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday if I don’t post again till Monday, I will be back!

Happy Thanksgiving !
I hope you all have a wonderful day with your families and be sure to eat a lot ! I'm about to leave for mom's so I'll be doing the same . By the way , did you all get Bret's beefcake Thanksgiving picture ? Ha - his smile says it all - gotta love it !

Hi there !
Amanda -
Every time I look at that pic of Bret I start laughing ! I hope you had a nice holiday and enjoyed your company . I haven't done that windmill exercise yet but when I do I'll just do regular military presses like you did . I noticed one exercise in month #4 that has all these steps and it looks really confusing . I don't have the next month yet but I saw it on the website .
Carolyn -
Oh no - I hope your dog's eye will be alright ! I feel tough about a lot of things but animals in pain or feeling sick just hit me where I live . I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that he/she continues to heal and get better . If you don't get Bret's email Amanda or I need to post a link to it [ which I suddenly forgot how to do ...] - it's not to be missed !
Julie -
I hope you had a terrific holiday too ! I also hope Maggie continues to get better . I had to take a fews days off from training my UB because I tweaked my shoulder [ Does it never end ??? ] Today I did a combo of GG month #3 w/o's 2&3 and I actually got the shaky legs after ! WOO HOO !
Lateral lunge - 3x10 w/ 12's , single leg Romanian deadlift - 3x12 @ 15 , 20 , 25 Lbs. Single leg HT bottoms up - 3x20 , Russian leg curl - 2x20 , Band rotary hold - 2x10 w/ 10 sec hold after each set , HT max reps. W/ iso hold - 2x50 @ 75 lbs . 20 sec. hold after each set , HT 2x10 @ 135 Lbs. 20 sec. hold after each set .
Have a great night !

Carolyn I'm so sorry to hear about your dog; I hope her eye heals. Those cones are such a nuisance! Sounds like you'll be busy taking care of her over the next month.

Awesome job with the 101 HT!!!
