Bringing up the Rear Check-In

This morning I did Ride. Always a fun one. Still not in the groove of wanting to get out of bed. I turned my alarm off this morning and then found myself snuggling up with Ozzie and snoozing for another 5 minutes.

Kate I think you will love the versa grips. It took me a little while to get used to using them but now I can’t do deadlifts or rows without them.

Carolyn I was guessing yesterday when I gave you those dimensions. My memory apparently is not that good. This morning I checked it out and the back extension machine base is about 4 ½’ long by 2 ½’ wide and it is about 3 ½’ tall. Still pretty big but I think I was thinking of my weight bench yesterday.

Amanda Oooh! I love 4DS Kickbox. The legs section is good, short but good and effective.

The Versa Grips came tonight ! Can't wait to try them tomorrow . I got the small and they seem to fit fine .
I did To The Max Extreme tonight - lots of impact the last 2 days and it's raining now , which means my knee wants to be difficult - looks like an Advill p.m. evening ...

This morning I did Cardio Kicks! I love the guys in this one especially when she brings them up to the front at the end to do the punches. It is getting so cold outside and so dark in the morning. Ugh! I know winter is on its way but I wish it would stay away this year.

Carolyn I get Nia’s emails too. I saw her version of the band hip thrust. I might have to try it but I might have to use heavy dumbbells to hold the band down since I don’t have a rack like that. I like her suggestion about holding the top position for a few seconds and really squeezing the glutes together. I try to do this with barbell ht too and can really feel it. I hope you slept well and got some de-stressing in. I actually find the “modified” hydrants that Cathe does a little uncomfortable on my hip even though she says it is supposed to be better for your hips.

Kate I can’t remember for sure but I think I got the x-small. They say you can use these for bench press too but I have never tried it. I do use them for pullups sometimes to help me keep a grip on the bar. Sorry about your knee. I broke my foot last year and lately with this cold, I have been feeling it sometimes.

Today I did FlexTrain but fast forwarded through the disc section I didn't feel like doing the chest part but I should have done the lunges because those looked good. I loved the firewalker section it was so fun and the music was good... my legs were burning! Carolyn you weren't kidding when you said your shoulders got cooked I could barely move my arms up for the last few presses. The abs section really burned too. I think this is the one where I felt the most muscle fatigue of the new w/os.

Carolyn I get Nia's emails too but don't end up reading them too often. I've been looking at getting some other bands too-I only have the bands Cathe uses and the band that came with Michelle Dozois Peak Fit.
I'm sorry you hurt all over; that's no fun. I'm a teeth clencher too most of the time I do it without even realizing it until I wonder why my head or jaw hurts.

This morning I did my Get Glutes workout: 3x10 American HT @ 185, 3x5 front squats @ 80, leg curls on the stability ball. Then I added on DWP. I had to pause and take extra break time. Whew I am so glad it is Friday. Tomorrow I have a birthday party for my niece to go to.

Carolyn I usually wake up about 20 minutes before my alarm but just lay there until it goes off. Sometimes I fall back asleep in that time but not always. I have some bands I use for assisted chin ups and pull ups that I bought off of Amazon. I would think they would work for the banded hip thrust but I haven’t tried them. I linked the biggest band but they sell a variety of sizes.

Amanda I love doing leg work with the discs. I really feel it good in my glutes and hammies. That firewalker section is fun isn’t it. Much better than just side to side. It makes me feel like I am dancing the way we do it in FT.

Today I did GG w/o 3, CTX Triceps and All Step Abs.

Carolyn yes FT was killer! I was sooo happy when the shoulder press went to one arm at a time and then she threw in simultaneous again and I had to talk back! :D

Saturday pretty much didn’t do anything but my niece’s birthday party and got a new battery for DH’s jeep. Sunday I did my Get Glutes workout: ht 2x15@175, 2x12@185; rear lunges 1x8@60, 2x5@70, 1x12@65, American Deadlifts 1x12@85, 2x8@90, 1x8@85 and added on extra upper body work. This morning I did Supercuts. I was just going to do the regular workout but when I got to the triceps extension I was feeling energized so decided to do the extreme premix which repeats the segments through the sprint shooters.

Carolyn I tried to do some hip thrusts with the band this morning after Supercuts but I wasn’t having good luck getting them to work. I don’t have a power rack so I tried putting 30 pound dumbbells on the bands to anchor them but they just rolled off when I thrusted. I’ll try some other time to see what I can do to anchor the band. Oh and I love doing strength work first then cardio. I can go heavier and then my muscles are primed for the cardio. I totally agree that the weekend goes by way too fast. Other than the hamstring/glute flare up, how is Lastics? I was thinking about getting it because I want to work on my flexibility but I don’t enjoy yoga.

Amanda Did you enjoy month 2 of Get Glutes! I am almost finished with month 1 and so looking forward to starting month 2. Although there are probably going to be some exercises I miss from month 1.

Hi everyone !

ARRRG ! I don't even want to admit it but I did something to my knee last Wed night . It started to hurt after To The Max but I thought it was from the rain - I didn't feel anything at all until later that night and by morning it was swollen and hurt to bend . I can't even remember a time that I hurt it during a workout - it's never happened . I know we all have had injuries so you all know what it feels like - I go back and forth trying to think of what I could have done - but it seems like a very general type of overuse injury . And I was just starting to lift heavier !!!
Anyway , squats , lunges , dips are out right now . I can do deadlifts and glute bridges and probably HT's and upper body , of course . I'm a terrible patient but I've just got to take it one day at a time . Thanks for letting me vent - I hate to complain like this !

I came up with a great way to rack the weight up when you're on the floor and your bar doesn't clear your knees - I use my risers from my step and put a few on either side of my hips so it makes a little bridge . Then , you can load up as much weight as you want across the top and slide underneath .

I was so getting into GG month 2 !!!! I'm going to try the HT w/ pauses tomorrow but at a lighter weight than I was using .

I'm also trying the Versa Grips tomorrow as well when I do the deadlifts . I could have gotten the Xtra small too , but I can make these work .

Today I wasn't feeling that great and short on time so I did CTX shoulders, legs/firewalkers from FlexTrain and 3x30 fast GB at 60lbs and iso-hold at the last set for 30; then I did some stretching. those high rep fast GB really get a burn going more so then regular GB so maybe that's why Bret's girls go so fast too to get that burn....

Kate that is a great idea to use the risers; I'll have to give that a try.

Julie I've been slacking on GG with all that I've had going on so I'm only 1/2 through the second month; I see that I already have month 3 so I better get cracking.

This morning was Get Glutes: 3x15 1-leg ht @ 45, 3x5 "box" squats @ 90, 3x12 good mornings @ 50 plus additional back work. I am so happy this was the last GG workout 1 for month 1. I hate the 1-leg hip thrusts for 3 sets of 15 reps. Ugh! That is too many for me to do happily. I also changed the box squats to regular squats because I don’t like box squats and apparently cannot follow the directions.

Carolyn I may have to cave and get Lastics. I need to try to dedicate a full day to stretching too which would most likely be Saturday because I don’t want to give up my normal workout days for it. Kate’s suggestion is probably better than what I did before I bought big 45 pound plates. I would balance the barbell on some bb plates and then roll it onto my legs. Definitely get new shoes and ones made for walking if that is what you normally do. It is amazing how much new shoes makes a difference on your feet and joints.

Kate I’m so sorry about your knee. I completely understand the frustration. Last year I was doing really good with my heavy lower body lifts and then I broke my foot. I was in a cast for 4 weeks and then a boot for another 4 so no heavy lifting for 8 weeks. I did develop some nice upper body muscle because that is all I could do. Hang in there and you will get past this and stronger than ever.

Amanda Wow a 60 lb. isohold for 30 seconds after 3x30 is amazing! On some of Bret’s blog posts and even some of the posts on the Get Glutes forum they talk about getting an amazing pump in the glutes so much so that they have trouble walking when they are done. I have yet to reach that point. Maybe my glute muscles are still too small.

Thanks - I know you know how it feels . I always try to be careful with it but this time I can't tell how I hurt it , just that I did . Getting new sneaks for your walks is a good idea - I think I'll be joining you on the walks !

Breaking your foot sounds really rough ! Right when you're getting strong too - I don't know how long my knee's going to take to heal but I'll be working on my upper body too . I can do a few things like dead lifts HT's and straight leg lifts . Thanks for the encouragement - I know we've all been there !

This morning I did the Pedal Power Scrambled Premix. I think I might like this way better because my favorite song gets played at the end just when I need that extra kick.

I finally used the Versa Grips last night ! Brilliant invention - I got up to 75 Lbs. on my deadlifts !
Dead lifts 1x20n @45 lbs. , 1x15 @65 lbs. , 1x10 @75lbs. HT 1x100 @45lbs. GB 1x20 @45 lbs. The rest was just knee rehab stuff like straight legs lifts from all sides w/ 5 lb. ankle weights . On a positive note , I've been doing Pyramid Upper body and hadn't done it in a really long time , and after XT and Gym Style , it was really easy - I'm lifting as much as Cathe and a bit more on some exercises .

Have you ever heard of Traumeel ? I was looking around my health food store and remembered that my acupuncturist told me to use it for something awhile ago . I bought some of that and and some glucosamine to rub on my knee and it felt pretty good - it can't hurt .

Those Versa Grips are great ! I really feel it in my lower back today - in a good way . I'm glad you can do the bike w/o's . Once I feel a little better , I'll try taking some walks for my cardio .

This morning I did Hardstrikes. That one always goes by so fast. I know it is only 48 minutes but it still flies by.

Carolyn I still haven’t decided which spin DVD I like best. Maybe Ride because I love heavy hill climbs and there seem to be a lot in that one. I don’t like that Ride doesn’t have a scrambled premix though. Having the scrambled premix makes it feel like 2 workouts in 1.

Kate So glad you like the Versa Grips. They are a little expensive but so worth it. 75 lbs. on deadlifts are so awesome!

This morning I did my last Get Glutes for month 1 and added on All Out Low Impact HiiT. I really like that one. I have no dread factor about doing it. And today I was really feeling my butt working especially during the double pulse lunges and the running man. Now my booty is talking to me.

Kate It was cold and rainy here and I live in a tiny town (less than 400 people) so we didn’t get many trick or treaters. I think there was around 12. I bought candy I don’t like so I was not tempted to eat it. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the leftovers.

Carolyn I agree! Don’t feel guilty about what you eat. We spend too much time feeling guilty over what we eat and what we do or don’t do that it is such a waste of time. I love sore hamstrings second to sore glutes. Hope you are still feeling good and didn’t jinx yourself.

What are Zerker squats ? Are those from SC ? I LOVE candy corn and I have leftovers too ! I'm really missing my cardio and sweating - there was a tiny bit with the HT but it's not the same ...
Tonight I did straight leg dead lifts : 1x30 @ 45Lbs. ,1x20 @ 65Lbs. , 2x10 @ 75lbs. Single leg HT : 2x20 @ 45lbs. each leg . Reg. HT 3x20 @ 95lbs. then 2x10 @95lbs. w/ 10 sec holds . Elevated GB 3x20 @30lbs. then single leg GB @15 2x20 each leg . 3x20 straight leg lifts , side LL and back LL .
Going to break 100 on HT next week YAY !!!
