Good morn'n ladies,

Could those of you who are/have exprienced breast cysts share your story with me? I am 47 and have them. I have had a mamogram and the report said nothing to worry about. I have read online about these cysts and some info mentions that they come on before menopause.

Would appreciate anyone's words.

Hi Patty, I have had breast cysts for a long time. I am 45 and relatively flat chested. I was told years ago that caffeine could increase these cysts. I have not read anything recently, and have had no problems with them. I don't ever get any pain either. I still drink my 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and I do get a mammogram every year. Just my experience...hope this helps...:)...Carole

Hi Patty,
My mom has them and she says staying away from caffeine has helped. She also goes to a speicalist and goes to him yearly. Good luck!!

My first cyst was discovered when I was only 16 years old. I'm 47 now and it's still there, plus a few more. Right before my period, they are extremely painful. Staying away from caffeine hasn't helped my situation, nor has upping my intake of Vitamin E.

Patty, I am 45 and recently had my first experience with breast cysts. Mammograms only detect masses, but don't differentiate between a solid lump and a cyst. An ultrasound will tell if the lump is a cyst. Have you had an ultrasound?

I had a lump that I could feel, and it was of course confirmed on mammogram--a scary experience. Ultrasound confirmed that it was a "simple" cyst, which means nothing really needs to be done with it. I am a nurse, so I am rather agressive with my health care, and referred myself to a breast center for a specialized evaluation. I'm glad I did. Ultrasounds used at these centers are usually a step better than the usual ultrasounds. This one showed that the cyst was actually twice as big as the first ultrasound, and that it was a complex cyst. These types of cysts are usually drained and sent off to make sure that it is benign, which was done (and it was benign). In two follow-up appointments, ultrasound shows that the cyst has returned, although smaller. So the plan is to have another mammogram and ultrasound in 6 months to keep an eye on it.

If you haven't had an ultrasound, I'd talk to your doctor about having one, and possibly consider being evaluated at a breast center.

Hope this is helpful,
Gale

Hi Patty ~ I'm almost 47 and have had cysts since I was 20. A couple of months ago I started using RevivAll for Women from Garden of Life. This product is soy based and I have found marked relief from my cysts as well as some of the other symptoms I experience with the everchanging hormones. Cysts aren't completely gone but a lot less tender and much smaller in size.

HTH,

I have had what they called fibrocystic breast lumps most of my life. Once I found one the size of a grape. They put me through my mammogram as usual and did an ultrasound. It was nothing to worry about. Since I have had cancer and my grandmother had breast cancer I am very careful of regular mammograms and home checks. It is not the caffeine in coffee and chocolate that causes the lumps. It is another chemical, that is in colas as well. I just cannot remember the name. They gave me a brochure at the women's health center. If I leave these alone and keep up with the 1200 iu of vitamin E as reccomended by the doctor the lumps become less prominant.

My sister was diagnosed with fibrocystic breast lumps about 10-15 years ago. She used to LIVE on coffee; 4 pots a day. Once she totally quit her caffeine intake, they went away and she has been pain free since then. Her's were very painful also as well as shooting pains into the arms.
