breakfast for kids

looking for some ideas for my daughter. K this year.

she doesnt have much of an appetite, and often not much time. takes her much longer than her brothers to eat cereal, or sometimes she says she's full after a few bites. when she doesnt have time for breakfast, she can eat school's breakfast. a few times she's forgotten to eat at school. another time she said she wasnt hungry. while this is all fine, she needs to listen to her body. she's a growing kid, she needs to gain or maintain(shes at a healthy wt/height) not lose.

ideas for breakfast that are fast for her to eat, healthy, good amount of cal.?
also, right now she has a very tiny tooth coming in, in the front so nothing too hard or crunchy.
she loves fruit. likes oatmeal, other breakfast food. normally anyway.

I do well with peanut butter toast, Nutra-grain waffles with real maple syrup, and eggs. Not in the same meal, of course.

My daughter is similar. I make her a smoothie of tofu, milk, frozen strawberries, a banana and a little sugar depending on how ripe the banana and strawberrries.

i just got rid our blender, hardly used it anyway.

would you just make a fruit salad instead? i was kinda worried it wouldnt have enough cal. plus fruit doesnt have that staying power on its own.
maybe fruit and a scrambled egg would be good.
the pb toast and waffles are good, just would take her a little longer to eat those.

another option, send her a snack to school. sometimes she forgets that too, but once she's in the habit she'll prob have no problem.

My children don't like to eat breakfast either and are always in a hurry. Bananas work well for fruit. They seem to be able to eat them relatively quickly. String cheese they will always eat. They also like Zbars (Clif Bar makes them). They are higher in sugar but no artificial stuff or HFCS and most of the ingredients are organic.

Would she eat a small home made frozen fruit pop? You can make a slushy the night before, freeze it in those home style popsicle caddies and then just give her one and she can eat it in the car on the way. Put some fruit in it like bananas or peaches. Or how about a small breakfast burrito, with a really small softened wheat or corn tortilla and some softly scrambled egg? Does she like cheese? You can put a dollop of cream cheese with a sprinkle of cinnamon and apples in a tortilla and those travel really well. That would give her at least 200 calories.

You can add some nuts for more calories. Walnuts or almonds are great with fruit. I like peanut butter on my toaster waffle, she can carry that with her to eat in the car. I'm assuming she doesn't walk to school, but she can eat/walk at the same time too.

I got a great idea from Eggo the other day. Take a whole wheat waffle, put yogurt on it, top it off with fresh berries and some granola (if she can eat that). Breakfast pizza! I don't recommend buying it from the freezer section, the yogurt and berries are warm when you heat it up, yuck. But making it at home is a fantastic, fairly easy breakfast.

thanks for all the ideas. and if anyone else has any, feel free to post.

we tried the breakfast pizza today. they all liked it.
i also packed a dried fruit and cashews mix for their snacks at school. i think its a good idea to give her nuts pretty often. she sometimes doesnt want pb(boys always do) but she almost always likes almonds or other kind of nut. and accidently bought salt free almonds. they are pretty good in yogurt :)

sometimes its hard to find something all 3 like, but at breakfast its pretty easy. :)

I was going to ask you if she likes yogurt. I often eat plain Greek yogurt with fruit and nuts for breakfast because it is so filling. Unfortunately my older kids prefer the kind with more sugar, but my 2yo loves it! I think because he sees me eating it. It's also really good with oatmeal and berries. I mix a little in after it's cooked and it makes it nice and creamy. Yum!

oh we all love yogurt! i haven't tried the greek kind yet. i bet she would like any kind. yea they would want a little sweetener, but they love with fruit added in. goes great with their lunch too. put frozen fruit w/yogurt. they love that. i'll never have enough yogurt for us to eat it everyday, but making the breakfast pizza is a great way to stretch it.
