Boxing Workout- heavy bag

Cathlete
I was wondering if anyone was into boxing workouts involving a heavy bag? I strictly do Cathe now and have become so fit that I want to venture into other realms of fitness. My only problem is I am home 24/7 with my small children and can not get out to a boxing class(my dh works alot). I do however have a wonderful home gym with the works and a place for a freestanding heavy bag but wonder if anyone can recommend a good home boxing workout dvd? Sorry I am long winded today;-)

Hi,

I have 2 boxing workout DVDs for trade on Video Fitness Exchange

It's been a while since I've done the videos, but I think the advanced one has some heavy bag work. I also workout at a boxing gym, and the workout is grueling (but well worth it). Maybe you and your DH can do this together or agree upon a day when he watches the kids and you get to go out to the gym.

Good luck. Feel free to check out my post to let me know if you'd be interested in a possible trade. It's best to email me ([email protected])

Hi Joanne--I used to do a lot of heavy bag work & it is truly an incredible workout--possibly the toughest cardio workout in existence. When I took martial arts we would do quite a bit of this & our sensei would have us do drills where we'd hit as hard & fast as we could for 2 minutes, & let me tell you that 2 minutes felt like 2 hours it was so intense.

So, it is a fabulous cardio workout, but a word of warning--one of the reasons I stopped was b/c it beat the heck out of my hands. I haven't done it for about 10 years & I still have scars on my hand from it. Initially you'll get blisters on your knuckles until they harden to callouses. Not a very feminine look.

Another boxing-type option is jumping rope. Boring unless you have an MP3 player or a book on tape or something like that, but it's also a very intense cardio workout.
