BOSU update...

Love it:D Just about the time I have gotten bored with the video it came with, mostly because of the layout, I have received my Keli Roberts/Mindy Mylera Burn/Explode dvd. Nice!

I would say the most challenging part is doing all the balancing....and an awarenes of my core that I have not felt before. My feet can get a bit achy, but not to terribly bad. The ab work is fantastic on this thing! I feel it much higher and lower up and down my torso and for some reason it seems easier to have good form and yet really challenges.

I was looking for somthing new to kind of spice things up a bit in my workouts. Lots of things have had my attention, but I decided on this, and don't regret it one bit. For someone who has long cold winters, and has to do way too much exercising inside, this is a welcome addition until mountain bike time!

I'm finding many of Cathe's older ab routines are made new on the Bosu; I did PSLA abs last night and it was much tougher this way. It's a great tool.

One thing I want to point out. I used to use BOSU in my cardio kickboxing class and they can be dangerous when they get wet from sweat. If you are doing cardio on them just be aware that they are SLICK when wet! LOL!! Be careful!
Trevor :)

I also got my Mindy Mylrea/Kelli Roberts dvd. I can't believe how tough it is! My feet ached and my legs ached. Haven't gotten to the abs yet!

Good point Trevor! I giggled a bit when I was watching Kelli give her initial instructions at the beginning....she was suggesting the things you need for the workout, and among the weight bar and the glass of water, she said to have a towel handy to wipe off the BOSU.

I also found that even though you can get into a good rhythm getting on and off the dome, it is still good to keep a glance down now and then to be certain. I over shot the center just a bit, and it was the wierdest feeling. Not only are you not where you should be, but the BOSU requires balance, yet it is inherantly unstable. It reminded me not to be too confidant too soon in the game. Nice mental challenge, and I am glad I didn't hurt myself in any way.

I have the Rob Glick Cardio Fusion DVD and love it. It is a blast. It has 3 different types of workouts so the moves vary. I absolutely love the sports/athletic drills section. I really didn't like the BOSU at first, but I stuck with it and mixed it in with my Cathe workouts. It makes for a nice variation. Oh, and I agree with Dani. Just one wrong step and you'll feel very "weird". I still get a little goofed out when I don't step up on it all the way.

Cathy, you can buy it through Mindy's website, http://www.jumpincfitness.com & maybe through BodyBar.com. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned in this thread that it is a BodyBar/BOSU workout. In Mindy's "Explode" she does 3 or 4 cycles of leg work followed by a fun cardio interval. They're a lot of fun. Kelli's "Burn" is a good intro to the BOSU.

The pro series of BOSU workouts are available at http:\\www.fwonline.com. I have & like the Candace Copeland DVD, but it doesn't have the fun factor of Burn/Explode.

C&W abs on the BOSU-oh my gosh!

I've had my Bosu since February. I used it some then and liked it, but got sick and put it away for a while. Just before I bought it, there was a thread on here about Bosus, and Cheryl mentioned that she did pretty much all of Cathe's ab work on the Bosu. Specifically, she mentioned Cardio and Weights. I decided to try that yesterday. Oh my gosh! I still need some work to figure it all out, but it's tough! I think Rhonda might have mentioned on another thread that she wasn't sure what you could do on the Bosu in terms of abs that you can't on a stability ball. You may be able to do a lot of exercises on both, but boy was that tough yesterday. My hats off to Cheryl. I hope I can get to where I can do all of C&W abs on the Bosu!

RE: C&W abs on the BOSU-oh my gosh!

Lisa,

It took me a while to build up to doing most of my ab work on the BOSU - to get my abs in the shape to do it and to think of ways to vary the exercises to the BOSU.

Using the BOSU for my abs for one year and it has done awesome things for my abs - they are incredibly strong - just doing reverse crunches on it is so much tougher than on the floor - the bicycle, also.

I was looking for a way to challenge my abs more and boy did I find it - the only thing is when I do normal ab work it seems like I am not working them at all.

If you need any pointers on any of Cathe's ab work on the BOSU - I know I have done most of it on the BOSU. This has done more for me than any ab machine or anything else for my abs - considering the ten children I had, my abs look great - I love it!

Cheryl-Thanks!

Cheryl,

I really appreciate your offer, and think I will take you up on it! I realize that I probably should have started with some of Cathe's earlier, more traditional ab work.

Just briefly, with C&W, I tried to do everything up to the side work on top of the dome. I was actually all the way on top, because I felt like I had more balance and control there. I was able to do most of the first section, but not without some difficulty. In particular, when Cathe's doing the exercise like the Pilates Hundred, I was okay with my legs straight up, but could not move them to 45 degrees. I can't remember right now what else in that section gave me trouble.

On my side, I balanced on top of the dome for the oblique crunches. I didn't have great range of motion, but I could do them. The next set, where you sit up a little more, get on your rear a little, and crunch in and out, was very difficult (any pointers there would be greatly appreciated!). For the last exercise, I rested my forearm on the dome (the one that would have been on the floor). Those actually seemed easy that way. Maybe I need to do those resting my arm on the flat side.

For the walking planks, I put my hands on the dome side and was able to do them pretty easily. I also tried it on the flat side. That way I couldn't lift both arms and legs at once; I could lift one leg at a time pretty easily. I could lift one arm at a time only if I really took my time.

I would appreciate any suggestions on when to use the dome up or down, and also regarding the couple of exercises that gave me trouble. I don't know if it would be better to do this through email or not. If you think so, feel free to send me an email or pm. There may be others though, that might benefit from your expertise!

Thank you very much!

RE: Cheryl-Thanks!

I too would love any pointers you can give. I am new to BOSU and have just been doing Mindy Mylrea's DVD.
Thanks.

RE: Cheryl-Thanks!

Lisa,

When Cathe does the Pilates Hundred at the 45 degree angle - I usually do one leg at a time - or I do not go down the full 45 degrees. When she is on her side and lifts her legs for the obliques, I lay on my side on the BOSU with elbow on the ground and raise both my legs as she does plus I raise my arm too.

For the side one where she come down and crosses her elbow over, I used to do as you and put the elbow on the BOSU, now I just rest my hand on the floor (instead of the elbow) and do it - it seems to be more intense.

I think Cathe does some other things like in ME in C&W too - where she brings her legs out then in and raises her head - on the BOSU I just raise my head as I lift my legs up to 90 degrees and then lower my head and bring my head down while keeping my knees bent.

I don't know if this makes sense - I am trying to think and my kids are so loud now, they are driving me crazy.

Each time I do my abs on the BOSU, I seem to think of different ways to do things to make it moe challenging. As in SJP, when Cathe lowers her legs down and then up, I do one leg then alternate them and that works very well.

RE: Cheryl-Thanks!

Cheryl,

Thank you again. I'm hoping to try this again this evening. You may see posts with questions for you in the future!

By the way, I think you are amazing to be able to do everything that needs to be done, and find time for yourself, with 10 kids. I have two, and feel overwhelmed some days!

Thanks, again!
