Books on clean eating to avoid problems????

I am in need of some guidance on what to read. Long story short...my mom was just diagnosed earlier this week with cancer. She was asking me what she should or shouldn't eat. I was giving her my OPINIONS, which include eating CLEANLY...no processed foods, no additives, no preservatives, etc. BUT...that's my opinion. I do know there's a school of thought out there supported by books, but I don't have a clue where to begin.

So, can anybody recommend any good books that support clean eating in reference to cancer, chemo, treatment, rehabilitation, ANYTHING like that????

Thank you SO much!

Gayle

Gayle, I'm sure loads of information on good books will be coming your way here shortly, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis. That's wonderful though, that she wants to eat healthy. It sounds like she's got a great attitude about this:)

Keeping you in my thoughts,
Brandi

"The Answer to Cancer" is a great book, forget who wrote it. Also, Lance Armstrong's "It's Not About the Bike" gives more personal insight. Also, very motivating for working out.

Hi Gayle,

There is a book called "Eating Well Through Cancer" that is written by an author named Holly Clegg. I am familiar with her because she lives in Southeast Louisiana where I used to live. I don't have this particular cookbook, but I have many of her others that are very good.

I wish the best to you and your mother and you guys will be in my prayers.

BTW, I checked and the book is available through Amazon.

Thanks so much, ladies, for the input so far.

My mom has a GREAT attitude and is healthy to start with. In fact, the day she went to the hospital (this past Saturday), she was doing the 5K walk for Breast Cancer!

I've read the Lance Armstrong book...in fact, right before I did my first marathon earlier this year, and it IS very motivating!

Thanks again! I appreciate the suggestions, including checking with the hospital!

Gayle - I just wanted to say that I am really sorry to hear about your mom's cancer. I'm really happy that she's very positive about this - she sounds like quite a woman!

I,m also sorry to here about your mom. There is a website called newstarget.com that has alot of information and clean eating books.
I hope you can find something there. Garilee

Gayle-my thoughts go out to your mom & family- try to keep returning to a positive attitude through the rough times and find humour in anything and everything- I have a book I bought in the 90's "Prescription for Dietary Wellness" by Phyllis A. Bach and James F. Balch M.D. and one of the descriptions on the back is "We hope this book will encourage you to renew your committment to supporting the healing power of your your body, to return to living with vigor and zest and to cure and prevent the diseases of the 1990's".Good Luck- I hope it helps-deb

The DVD "Eating" has testimonials from several doctors who beat cancer following the RAVE diet (www.ravediet.com), which is basically "no Refined foods, no Animal products, no Vegetable oils, no Exceptions, and Exercise"). There is also a book that you can get, but the basic info is on the DVD.

Gayle, I don't have any book recommendations but wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. You've certainly been through a lot and I'm feeling for you. Take care and let us know how things are going.

Gayle:

So sorry to hear about your mom's illness. I have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there. She CAN beat this!

Marcia.

Gayle, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom's cancer diagnosis. I'll be sure to offer a prayer or two for both of you. I don't have a book recommendation but perhaps her oncologist can refer her to a registered dietician who specializes in such diets. Good luck and please let us know what happens.

Gayle, I have a friend that is a natuopathic dr and she asked me what kind of cancer your mom has. So, I'm passing the question onto you, what kind of cancer does she have? I guess that with different kinds of cancer there are different ways of eating to help fight it, maybe? I'm not sure. But, I wanted to help you out with your question, and this friend of mine is the best thing that I could think of to refer a book for your mother.
