Book For Vacation

Hi Everyone

I am going to the Carribean in a week and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book to read on vacation. I want to find a book that is fun to read nothing intense, no self help etc. Does anyone have any recommendations?

A Day Late and a Dollar Short by Terry McMillan. Just came out in paperback. LOVED IT! Wanted to stay home from work and read it straight through.

I'd recommend One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.

Anything Janet Evanovich! Best to start at "one" though.

I also like Maeve Binchy, particularly "Tara Road."

Straight Man by Richard Russo--hilarious!!!

Any of the Jane Whitefield series by Thomas Perry--marvelous thrillers. My favorites are Shadow Woman and Vanishing Act.

Thrillers by Tess Gerritsen--Harvest, Bloodstream, or her most recent one The Surgeon.

I could not put Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections down, although it is certainly a more serious novel than the others I have recommended.

Robert parker: the Spenser novels: fun, fun, fun!!

Anything by Carl Hiassen. His books are of the "who-done-it"/caper genre, with very clever humour. Perfect vacation reading

If you like thrillers, I just finished Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood and it was GREAT!!!

Try the Red Tent By Anita Diamant or Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. Everyone in my bookgroup loved them and they are easy to read, upbeat, have happy endings and no hidden messages. Have fun.

I'm so envious! I hope you have a fabulous time! I'm so glad we have snow today so that I can quit wishing I were in Cabo San Lucus and get my butt in gear and go XC skiing.

A great read by the ocean is Anne Morrow Lindbergh's "Gift From the Sea."

I would take more then the first one along though because they are easy reads and you'll want the next one right away! Have fun on vacation you lucky dog!!!


(Just wanted to add that this series is availabale at Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club for a big discount if you have any nearby!)

I recently read a number of Isabelle Allende books and recommend them....

I enjoyed "a girls guide to hunting and fishing"
by Melissa Banks (i think..but i could be fishing in the galaxy with that guess).. Its a funny collection of connected stories abouta young woman catching her fellow...
