Sorry - I'm one for a "don't put off until tomorrow" vote. If we pick a book now, but don't discuss it until September - I'll have read probably two or mother other books by then. Unless we pick something like War and Peace.

And Jes...you and I are already "booked" for our July book, aren't we?

The next volume in the "A Song of Fire and Ice" series, by George Martin. Jes got me hooked on these over the winter. 3 volumes have been published so far and the 4th is due in July. It's a fantasy genre with a medieval theme to it. Wars, dragons, betrayal...good fun!

yes! we are definitely reading that in july!!! i can't wait! i am going to get the Outlanders today..

so is this enough votes to go on? if so, then according to Clare's suggestion, Lori (who was the first to respond should pick 4 books and let us vote on which to read ........

Oooh Jes...the Outlander series is soooo good!! Of course, for me it is the whole guy in kilt thing.... makes me kinda swoony....gotta read those fast though, cause the next one in the series is due out in September!! Happy reading, Donna.

Shut UP! The next Outlander is due in September? I can't believe my friend, Deanna, didn't tell me. She's ALL about Jamie! And it's the men in kilts thing that does it for me too. Makes me wish I was a Scot. purrrrrrrr....

i almost bought The Outlander today but i read the back and it's too "romance" for me. Maybe later. I got Queen of The Southby Arturo Perez-Reverte and YaYa Sisterhood.

kilts totally gross me out!

jes:D

It's not as "romance" as you think. Definitely not Harlequin. Maybe you could borrow it from the library. I'm a huge fan of the library.

Really? Gross you out? Hmmmm...even when they're on Mel Gibson?

Especially on Mel Gibson! I did however make an exception for Vin Disel....i think it had something to do with the leather}(

I don't consider it to be pathetic at all! i don't even know what's on tv....ya'll are much more interesting and what else am i gonna do since dh is busy conquering the world online.......this way we get to be in the same room:)

what's your excuse?

oops! Ya'lll distracted me. I wanted to vote on the book club of the month thing. I can't wait that long to discuss until September. Shoot, I'll go through so many books, movies & mags by then. It'll be too vague.

I just meant that back in my pre-mom days, or maybe even pre-married days, I would have been out having a good time, listening to a band or something, at 11:30 on a Friday.

Of course, being a mom is more fun than being a drunk anyway.;-)

These are a group of interesting and thought provoking books that are available in paperback that I think we could vote on.

Sorry the list is so long. I tried to be diverse. A lot of the original ones I posted are only available in hardcover. I chose these because the are all available in paperback and easily found.
Maybe we could narrow it down, or if anybody has any other suggestions.

I also want to add that most of these books probably have reading guides that are put out by the publisher, they are usually available for free on the internet. The reading guide will give us some questions that will help us discuss and understand the book better.

Example is a book that I just finished, The Glass Castle. Here is the reading guide.

Sorry if I am telling people what they already know, some people may not know about these, if they haven't belonged in a book club. I have never been a member of a book club, so I am looking forward to it. :) :)
