Bodymax vs SJP vs BC

In my current rotation, I do a circuit or cardio/weights workout once a week, usually BC or SJP. I have recently acquired all of Cathe's DVD's and have yet to try Bodymax.

Which do you think is the toughest of the three and why?

:D Bodymax for me is the toughest because it is the longest!!! After doing a full step workout then you go onto a full body weight workout. I am not sure how long the total length of the workout is, but I know it is at least 1 hr and 30 minutes. Bodymax for me is not choreographically difficult, just long! I only know after the stepping I am already pooped!

I am with Lisa on this one too!!

Bodymax is tough!! I think that when done in its entirety, its one of Cathe's toughest workouts ever!!!

It is an endurance workout at its best..little rest, high intensity, and actually a fair amount of weight load considering its endurance training.

If you can conquer this one, you are truly fit!!

Yikes! I figured the length of this workout was a huge factor in its difficulty. I'm gonna give it a shot, though. If I have to modify, use lighter weights, cut it short, etc., I'll just do that. It's scheduled for Friday. If I'm not in the hospital, I'll post my thoughts.

Another quick question: if it weren't for Bodymax's length, which of the three (BM, SJP or BC) would you consider to be the toughest?

Hmm, I would still say Body Max wins as far as toughness even if you didn't consider the length.. Boot camp is tough, but the various segments are only about a minute each.. so its not too much pain on one bodypart at a time!! SJP is a ton of fun, but I don't think it is as difficult as either of the above.

With Bodymax, you do a fairly intense step portion for about 30-35 minutes, and then you do some interval training circuits with leg weight work for another 15 or so minutes. My legs are always toast after this! The Upper body portion of BodyMax uses fairly heavy weights and not a ton of rest between exercises. It would be a somewhat challenging workout on its own even if you hadn't totally fatigued yourself in the previous 50 minutes! By the end, I always find myself really wiped!

If you get a chance, let us know how you fare on Friday!! I am sure you will be great!!!

Boot camp if you have a dvd to make the upperbody only and cardio longer THIS IS KILLER.I do boot camp cardio straight thru 2 times. And bc upper is my fav endurance I do it 2 times in row going back to hit shoulders and chest after the end of each play since she only does these once.Try it it is killer.

I think BodyMax is the toughest of the three, then Boot Camp, then SJP. Boot Camp is fun, and useful and has lots of great premixes, but BodyMax is more exhausting.

I would have to say Bootcamp just because your going from cardio to weights in circuit but that is just me which really makes my hr go up more so then bodymax.

I think that BC is the toughest especially the everything but core premix or the cardio & lower only premix. Even as is it gets my heart rate up and keeps it up. I had to work up to this workout big time before I could do it without taking extra long rests. I used to feel like throwing up about halfway through after the squat thrust terminators. I also heavy up as much as I can on the weights. I have to admit it has been a while since I have doen BodyMax. The beginning is a lot harder then the end b/c once you get to the upper body work your heart rate comes down and stays down. They are all great. I'd say for the length Body Max but for the actual content BC...maybe. Hard one. Just my little ol' opinion!

Given the choice of the 3 on a day that I want to go HARD, I'm going for BodyMax everytime. It's a fabulous workout, fun, intense, challenging and there ain't nothin' like the feeling of accomplishment when you take that last big inhale. I love the other workouts but, in my humble opinion, BodyMax is in a class by itself, it's also a sentimental fave as it was my first Cathe!
Now it's decided, I'm doing it on Friday too.
:D
Enjoy your workout!

Bear in mind that Bodymax is not a true circuit workout. Bootcamp hits closer to the mark and is plenty tough enough because your body is taxed constantly in different ways and is never allowed to get used to anything.

I never do Bodymax. I think personally that the beginning cardio section is too fast paced for safety and it was the cause of the only injury I have sustained in the last three years. Bodymax is an endurance workout, not a circuit. The best circuit workout remains Circuit Max, in my opinion.

Hello, Sooooooooosan (if that IS your real name) . . . A-Jock throwing in her Point-Oh-Two:

One thing I'd like to suggest is that you can create some great mish-moshes among all three of the DVD's you've mentioned for a real upper-end circuit workout. You're not confined to doing each of the workouts strictly as produced.

I personally love the BodyMax power circuit segment, and for leg circuit work I think it's a toss-up between that and the BC cardio/lower body premix. A fiendish thing you could do would be the following:

I-Max 1 or Rhythmic Step warm-up
Body Max power circuit circuit segment
BC cardio/lower body premix OR
SJP hi/lo cardio and circuits
Body Max upper body (if you go with BC cardio/lower body only)

That'd probably get you close to the same duration as Body Max or SJP as produced, and man would you flame, especially the legs.

One of my hobbies is cooking up new and torturous mish-moshes among Cathe DVD's. A minor art form, as it were.

(P.S. How's Rocky?)

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

A-Jock, I've read your evil mish-moshes -- even printed out a couple -- but have yet to put myself through the torture. I think I'll see if I survive Bodymax as is first, thank you very much.
(Or maybe I'll just give Leslie Sansone a whirl instead...)

Thanks for asking about Rocky. Your concern for out rodent friends is very touching. You mentioned in a previous post how much misinformation is directed at these helpless animals. I've slowly begun to realize how misinformed Rocky really is. Aside from his stubborn insistence that Squirrel Fitness is right about Atkins (although he HAS lost another .5 oz), he's now using heavy dumbbells in his yoga practice. You should see him doing a handstand while holding .25 oz dumbbells with his feet!

Oh, and my real name is actually Sooooooooooooosan (13 o's).
