A few days ago I purchased a step which came with your (Cathe's) DVD titled "basic step + cardio & weights".

I try to follow what you are doing, but it becomes difficult because you are facing me instead of facing away from me.

If you faced away from me I could exactly copy your moves (after a while, anyway). But by facing me, it becomes confusing. It took me a while to realize you are moving in front of the step when doing the "A step", for example.

Would you happen to have a beginners DVD that has you facing the same way I am?

Hi, Helson!
Not Cathe, but the answer is no.
In fact, all home-workout instructors film facing us (some very few might have an optional insert on the screen showing the move from behind,, or a tutorial section showing the moves done that way). I assume you are used to working out in a class situation where the instructor faces away. It will take time to get used to what is called "mirror cuing" (Cathe is just like your reflection in a mirror), but it will be worth it.

Helson,

Kathryn is correct - just move with Cathe like you're looking into a mirror. Cathe gives super cues and she always tells you to move in the correct direction - e.g. if she says "grapevine right" that means YOU move RIGHT even though she's going to the left. If she moves towards you, you move towards the TV (as in the case of moving in front of and behind the step)

Get it? Super!

Have fun!

Thank you both for your responses.

Mirror image works all right for left-right motions, but not forward-back motions, such as the A-step. It took me a while to realize that Cathe was in front of the step, not behind it.

Seems I have no choice but to get used to it.

Also, you'll get used to the names of moves. So when Cathe tells you to do an "A Step", you'll know what to do without looking at her.

I know what you mean. I'm okay left to right, but sometimes I find it hard to tell if she's in front of or behind the step. We must think alike!

Yes, it would be a heck of a lot easier to have Cathe facing the same way we are facing. With, perhaps, a mirror in front of her.

It's some thing that you will get used to! Just remember that when you are standing next to the board, as if to do the A step, that when Cathe says, "outside of the board" she is referring to towards the TV.

I think that having Cathe facing away in front of a mirror would mess me up even more than Mirror cueing! Once you get it, though, it becomes second nature.
