Body Max vs Bootcamp Revisited

Soosan

Cathlete
I like to do an intense circuit or other cardio/weights workout once a week, no matter what the focus of my rotation is, because I find it does wonders for my cardio capacity, plus I feel it's a very efficient use of my workout time.

For the past four weeks, I've done Body Max where I had previously done Bootcamp for several months. Although BM is certainly tough and had a considerable post-workout fatigue-effect the first time I did it, coming back to BC was much harder than I had anticipated. (One of the reasons I like to do BC once a week is because doing it that frequently makes the workout a LOT easier!) I made it through BC without stopping using the same weights I normally use, but it was very difficult, particularly the cardio segments. Now, I don't know if I just had an off day or what, but I'm thinking that regularly doing BC got me into good enough shape to handle BM, but BM did not help me to handle BC. What do you all think?

My experience has been BodyMax is much harder than BootCamp.
This month's rotation calls for BC 3 times in 1 week and I substituted CircuitMax for BC once because I didn't feel like I had even worked out after BC.
I was wondering if it was the day, or what I had eaten the night before, or was it relative to endurance level versus strength, or what? Could be BM is @30 minutes longer too.
I was disappointed that I spent an hour(twice) and didn't feel taxed.
I hope others respond too. I'd like to hear more thoughts/ideas.

Hello, Sooooooooooooosan (if that is your real name) . . .

I'm a little strange (don't say anything) in that I live for Cathe premixes and mish-moshes, seldom performing each workout strictly as produced. However, I'm familiar with each of those, and IMHO the BC cardio intervals are much sharper than the B-Max cardio, and I think it would stand to reason that you'd find BC a bit tougher.

A mish-mosh I'd like to propose if you have the DVD versions of these two:

I-Max 1 or Rhythmic Step warm-up
Body Max power circuit segment
Boot Camp cardio / lower body only premix

That'd get you the best of both worlds!

Check this one with Rocky and lemme know what you think -

Hi A-Jock! Sooooooooooooosan IS my real name, but I'm thinking of changing it to Sooooooooooooooosan because people are constantly misspelling Sooooooooooooosan. (Even you did the first couple of times you responded to my posts until I clarified that it was spelled with 13 o's.)

I like your mish-mosh except it lacks upper body weight work which I try to take whenever I can get! BC has a little and BM, of course, has an entire UB segment.

Rocky and I are still not speaking because he's so obsessed with Bullwinkle's hamster wheel that he just won't give it back. In fact, he rarely gets off of it! I told him that "HamsterSpin" is considered effeminate, but he said (quite defensively, I might add) that he could care less. I'm beginning to think he's gay. (Not that there's anything WRONG with that.) Maybe all this frenetic activity stems from his inability to cope with his newfound realization of this tendency. Do you have any expertise in rodent psychology?

And poor Bullwinkle can't seem to find another fitness activity he likes. He's really ballooning out. Any ideas for him? What's the latest in fitness for hamsters?

I apologize if it seems I'm barraging you with questions about R and BW, but your compassion for and expertise with rodents is, I'm sure you are aware, legendary.

Hello AGAIN, Sooooooooooooosan . . .

You think YOU got problems with name spelling - try telling all of Quebec that it is NOT Auquajacque . . .

Re upper body stuff, obviously you could always cycle back to the B-Max (something in me just recoils at abbreviating that one to "BM") upper body segment, OR selecting the upper body only premix on BC. Of course that would extend things out quite a bit, but not too much more than Body Max as produced. I tend to let the B-Max power circuit segment slide off the platter every now and then, and then when I dust it off and do it again I'm surprised all over again how intense that particular segment is.

Re Rocky's problem: I think he's got squirreldurance training on the brain. It is not an orientation thing; it's a behavioral thing. If he's in that mode you're just going to have to let it play itself out. If you're concerned that he's being too frenetic on it, just slather some peanut butter in the center fulcrum; the added resistance will help his strength. Or he'll just eat it.

Re Bullwinkle, I read on Gin Miller's website that she's rolling out a HamsteRamping class and video that should be available for purchase March 15. 2004. Probably good for BW; all of the HamsterSpin is too limited in range of motion.

Hope this helps -

A-Jock

Thanks, once again, for the advice! I guess I'll just let Rocky play it out, but I swear, I'm thinking of exchanging him for a weasel!
