body max 2 question

Cathlete
Hi everybody and happy holidays!
I am thinking of getting body max 2, and have a question for anyone who has done it. Is the step choreography athletic or dance-y? I like an athletic step style, with simple choreography, like imax 1 or in drill max. I also don't mind jumping and plyo stuff but I don't like twisting-spinning-type moves as my knees complain. I did watch the preview but it would really help to know peoples' thoughts on the workout. TIA!

Hi Ann

I would say the step segment at the beginning is more dancy and the intervals sections are more athletic. Probably of no use to you whatsoever!

The choreography is much more athletic than dancy. It's designed to get your heart rate up and keep it there. There are some twisty moves, but not many. It's pretty straight forward and I found it easy to follow. Once I got the skates down, I was fine (those confused the heck out of me for a while). Body Max 2 is one of my favorites. I pull it out when I need a "kick my butt" fun workout!

Thank you for chiming in! It sure looks like fun watching the previews.

BTW, I love your wagging dog!

I think you'll enjoy BMax 2! I say get it!

Thanks re: wagging dog. I figure I have him as my icon because my own dog, and Aussie, has no tail. :p

Re dog tails, we have three pembroke welsh corgis - not a tail in the house! So I can relate!

Ann,
I got your email, and tried to reply, but the message got bounced back to me with a message saying "Due to extended inactivity new mail is not currently being accepted for this mailbox."

Here's what I wrote:
I definitely found the choreography to be more 'athletic' than dancy. One thing I noticed is that, while I usually like longer warm-ups, this one (and the one in Low Impact Circuit) seemed a bit too long and repetitive. Too much Tifting?

There are a lot of 'around the world' type moves in it, which I don't mind (because I can concentrate on putting more 'oomph' into them and not on complex choreo), but some people don't seem to like.

I haven't done the workout for a while, but I don't recall any too-twisty moves (the moves--at least as I remember--are more off the back and sides of the step (and I don't recall any 'sharp turns' like in some workouts that I find to be tricky for the knees), or 'around the world,' with little or no pivoty stuff (the few pivots I recall, like a 'v-step on the step, step back and turn to v-step to the back, are easy to replace with a mambo).

There are some premixes that I really like on the DVD, especially a "Bootcamp" premix that alternates between step and weights.

I have actually never done the step portion of the workout. I love the power circuit segement with or without the weights (cardio fusion) and I love the double upper body premix. I am now trying to expand on my Cathe workouts and was wondering which workout you prefer between BM2 step portion or HIS from the 4DS series. Which one is more challenging to learn? Which has a better fun factor? Which do you enjoy more? I have about two weeks to learn the choreography...then I am back toe grinders of grad school. x( I always do Cathe mish-moshes, so this step portion would be the beginning portion of my mish mosh. Thanks!

Hi Kathryn,

Thank you for your reply! I don't know what happened with the email -I use that address every day. We have had some problems off and on though since Embarq took over Earthlink, groan.

Anyway, I appreciate your comments very much, especially related to knees. I think I will get this one. MDH said he'd get me some new Cathe DVDs for Christmas so I am looking for new ones I'll like! This one sounds like fun to me. I actually enjoy around-the-worlds.

Happy holidays!

Hey Kristen,

Personally I love BM2. I think the choreography is fairly easy to learn since Cathe goes over it about 4-6 times in total for each section. If you remember cardio fusion, the BM2 step thats in the beginning is the entire step combined, but BM2 does not do this (only as an additional section). It breaks it down and then does the step blast separately. If you're looking for something challenging I would suggest that. I haven't been impressed with HIS from 4DS, just because the cardio sessions are too short especially when you include warm up. Plus because its short, the choreography really isn't explained. you just kinda have to watch it over and over to get it.

I completely understand what you mean about grad school! 6 more months full time for me!!
