body lotion for the face?

I've just purchased Dove Replenishing Night Lotion and as I was putting it on my face tonight I was thinking what a big bottle for face lotion. Of course, as I read the bottle ( which I should have done in the store!) I realized it was for the body. It still went on nice and not too thick. Does anyone know whether it really matters if you use it on your face?
Thanks
Sherry

I never use body lotions for my face because most lotions will include thicker emollients and mineral or other oils, which my face does not need. Also body lotions tend to lack the special care that the face needs, like retinol for anti-wrinkle treatment.

If you like it and have drier skin, body lotion may work for you.

It may just depend on your skin type. I use Curel body lotion all over, even on my face. I get eczema pretty bad and this is the only lotion I've found that helps keep it under control. I very rarely get zits any way, so that might be why it doesn't bother my skin. Plus, I don't have to spend the extra money on another beauty product.

I personally don't use body lotion on my face for the reasons others have stated, such as it's usually thicker and can clog your pores, plus I like the anti-wrinkle ingredients included in face lotions. But I know people who have really dry skin and use body lotions on their face, and it works just fine. If it works for you, that's great, because it's a lot cheaper than face lotions most of the time.

In addition to the other cautions, I would be wary of using it around the eye area. Face lotions are dermatologically tested for use on the face. Body lotions don't have to be. Facial skin is more delicate than body skin, especially the eye area, and body lotion just might contain ingredients that may be irritating to the eyes.

I agree w/ Catherine's statment. Sometimes certain lotions can clog up your pores. Try a nice soothing lotion that kind of goes on "cold" if you know what I mean. It makes my face feeling fresh:)

I agree also--unless the lotion specifically says on the label that it's noncomedogenic, it'll clog your pores.

I got a facial on Friday afternoon & she really read me the riot act b/c of my pores--said I needed to do more than just wash my face w/soap & water when I got home from work, first I had to use makeup remover & be sure all the makeup was removed, & then wash w/soap & water. Funny b/c I always wash my face until the water runs clear, apparently that's not enough.

Also she said to exfoliate once a week, which I tend to avoid b/c I'm trying to prevent my skin from drying & I always thought this was for people w/oily skin. She said exfoliating gets rid of the dead skin & helps new skin regenerate, so it actually helps keep skin from drying out.

<sigh> The older I get, the more complicated, time comsuming & expensive my skin care gets.

Thanks for you thoughts everyone. Looks like I'll be using this one for the body only. Back to the drugstore! I'm trying to find a good moisturizer that is a pump or tube. I hate the thought of using jars because I always feel that I'm adding bacteria everytime I put my fingers in. Any ideas for moisturizers that are $20 and under.

Oil of Olay. My nana used it, my mom uses it, my sister uses it, I use it.

Of course these days even Oil of Olay costs about $20.

Sherry,

I just emailed you in regards to some of the Arbonne moisturizers that I use ~ they are in pumps to avoid contamination and the results that I and others have achieved are noteworthy. I liked the stuff so much I am now a consultant, would be happy to help you if you would like!
