I've read this book and was wondering if anyone has actually decreased their cardio to just 20 mins? I would think you'd gain weight if you're used to doing Cathe videos or classes.
Thanks

If you read it again, you'll realize he recommends 20 minutes of intense cardio, with an RPE of 7-9 (or something like that.) That's pretty tough to do consistently for 20 min. (20 minutes of medium-fast runnung will give you a better workout that 20 minutes of slow walking.)

Also, on the other days you're lifting pretty heavy weights, and that also burns calories, along with raising your lean muscle mass and metabolism.

I did BFL last spring and lost about 11 lbs in 9weeks. I also cheated somewhat. I think it's a good program. I just got sooooooooo bored with the wt. lifting part! The cardio was great. Short and sweet and really intense. Still, I miss having "company" while I exercise. But not real company. I'm sure there's a diagnosis there somewhere. LOL. Robin.

I belonged to another discussion board where a person followed this program, to a "T" as she put it, and had amazing results. In fact she won some Australian BFL competition. I believe her name was Jade. I imagine the diet was very important, and she was very careful.

In a training seminar, Dave Draper (www.davedraper.com; Mr. America 1965) recommended to me 20 minutes 3 times a week, said it was sufficient. At that time I cut back considerably from almost an hour a day, but still more than 20x3!, lifted lots more, and didn't gain weight.

Still, I can see why you'd be concerned. I'd be afraid to gain weight too. Again, I think diet is the trick to making it work.

If you do your weight lifting intensely enough, it is cardio. Doesn't he recommend something like a 45-second rest period between sets? The folks in our gym who do it wear a stopwatch around their neck. Anyway, 45 seconds isn't enough time for my heartrate to come down after say a few hack squats or leg presses with about 200 pounds on them!

I used to work in a gym, and I thought it was always so funny to watch people walking around with their little charts and workout logs that they'd copied from their BFL books. People there seemed to be obsessed with it.

Cathe videos?

I love Cathe's videos, so I was wondering if anyone has fit her videos into the BFL plan? Would her shorter CTX cardio portions be okay?
Should I follow the weight exercises in the book closely, or can I substitute Cathe's weight videos and just do them more often with heavier weights?
Thanks again!!

I sort of followed the BFL concept with the diet (I STILL keep a food journal and have a per-calories-per day ceiling), CTX cardio and PS weight routine. I also keep the Myoplex with me all the time along with a small water container in case I get stuck somewhere and I'm hungry. I don't feel the need to follow the program to the letter, especially his weight routines. And I personally like more cardio, but 5 blasts of CTX cardio is enough.

Just me and my preferences. Take it or leave it.

I agree with Honeybunch:)
I like the BFL program and I have found that with any program that diet is 75% and exercise is 25%, so clean eating is the way too go:)

I agree with Honeybunch regarding the cardio workouts. I believe clean eating is the key to seeing results.I like the BFL program but it's likely that the clean eating is the key. I think you could use Cathe's videos with no problem, if you follow the BFL eating plan.I had to add extra cardio also but you may not need to, it all depends on ones metabolism. Some need more cardio and some do not.
