I am wanting to purchase a body fat scale. I have never owned a scale in my life. My husband wants one for his weight. I want one for my fat %.

I haven't looked at them yet in the stores. I was wondering what everyone uses out there.

Any suggestions?

Amy:)

Hi Amy,
Not Cathe, but I can try and help. I own a body fat scale, probably one of the best on the market. It works really well, however even so, these scales work on a bioelectrical feedback which is greatly affected by the water content in your body which can vary greatly anytime simply by what you are eating and have an error ratio of
+5% or -5%! My best suggestion is to go to a reputable gym to a trainer who can use the calipers on you, this way you have an ACURATE base line for the future. I did this and he gave me a reading of 16%, I then came home and checked myself on my scale and it told me 19%! I hope this helps.

Hello Amy,

Wow! You never owned a scale in your life? I use a Tanita Scale & Body Fat Monitor that I got from Road Runner Sports. Check it out!

Elizabeth is right. Your body fat reading on a Tanita or other similar scale will be greatly affected by water content in your body (doesn't help when it's your T.O.M. and many other things.)

However, I find that the Tanita more than meets my current needs. I weigh in regularly, the same time each day, so all that really matter to me is to see a downward trend over time.

I hope that helps!
