Body bars.....

Cathlete
Do any of you have the body bars as in PS Legs. Does cathe use this in any of her other work out. Would you recemend getting one? Which poundage did you start with?
Thank You

Hi Krista03

Yes I have 2 body bars. I have a feeling she may use it in the new series but I am not sure please crowd correct me if I am wrong.

I bought my bars before I started with Cathe and I had some of the body bar tapes. I now use them for lighter days and when using Mindy's Strength Express.

I started with 10lbs and now have 16lb body bar but personally don't find it as challenging as a barbell, but I won't get rid of it as I use if for other tapes.

I would say it depends on you goals really and if you want to use other strength tapes apart from Cathe if you do you could if you do get the body bar look for tapes that feature the bodybar.

Not much help I know.

Hi Krista03,
Well since you asked, I'll give you my opinion.

I do not know if Cathe's new workouts use a body bar - I don't remember one mentioned but
PL Legs & Abs is the only Cathe so far that uses a body bar.

IMHO they are way too pricey for what you get. You can easily use ankle weights for the floor work, or your barbell with no weights on it. You can use a wooden dowel from a hardware store for the calf raises and you can use a dumbell for the warm-up set of plie squats.

If you have a collection of other tapes that use a body bar or if you just like to get more toys and have an unlimited budget for $ and space, then get 'em all!

Krista,
I have a fake body bar--a "Challenge Pro Bar"--which was at least half the price of a "Body Bar." Anyway, I do use it a lot. It's 18 pounds. I use it for PS L&A, my 3 Body Bar videos, and I also use it as a barbell for other videos when my barbell gets too heavy and I don't feel like switching plates. That being said, you could very easily do without one, using ankle weights, the bar from your barbell set, or even dumbbells in some cases.

I don't use a body bar, either. I have a twelve pound barbell, and I just slide the neck pad down to the end for the leg work. It works great, and I didn't have to buy anything new.

Hi Krista, I have an 18lb body bar which I prefer to my barbells. I like the grip, it is large not like a barbell. I ordered mine a few years ago through the Collage video catalogue. To make it heavier I have 6 lb adjustable ankle weights that I attach to the bar. I hope this helps you, Karen

Like Linda aka Cruncholi, I use my body bar (also a challenge pro bar) for many other videos when my barbell just gets too heavy, especially during an endurance workout.
If you really want to get one, you'll find additional uses for it. I learned how to do crazy 8's using my 18# body bar. For whatever reason, I could complete the sets with Cathe if I used it rather than my barbell? Don't know if it was the even distribution of weight, or what, but I could not complete crazy 8's until I trained with the body bar.
I DO NOT use it for a weight on PS Legs when Cathe and the crew use theirs for the floorwork. I'm fine without weight thank you very much, but I do use it as a prop many times for calf raises in Leaner Legs, calf raises and plie squat warm up in PS Legs, also I use it sometimes in circuit workouts because it's just really handy.
So you could get your money's worth if you get one.

Hi Krista! I have a 15lb Pro Challenge Bar that I got because of PS SLA and Karen Voight's strong and Smooth Moves. I love my bar, I use it for floor leg work and ab work. Also my kids use it when they want to workout with me. I think they're worth the investment. But as said earlier, The Pro Challenge Bar is about half the price for the Body Bar and just as good:)!!

I have a 15 lb body bar and I really like it.

When I first got the PS series, I used ankle weights where she uses the body bar in the Legs & Abs video. Once I actually bought my body bar and used it instead, I realized how much more difficult the workout is with the bar instead of my ankle weights.... and I was using 5 lb ankle weights. The body bar is TOUGH!

I intend to get another one soon. I'm thinking of the 22 lb one. I really wish I could afford to get them in all different weights!

I've never been convinced I needed a Body Bar. I use 5 lb. ankle weights and an 8 or 10 lb. dumb bell resting on my thigh for PS L&A. I have one non-Cathe Body Bar Workout tape and have had no problems substituting dumbbells for the body bar. IMHO, I just can't see spending more money and having more clutter.
