Bikini Countdown 4/13 & stress hormone Qusetion

JAFitMama

Cathlete
Hi bikini check in buddies!

Brenda your schedule looks good this week.

I hope everyone is done with the chocholate.

Yesterday(Monday) was timesaver#5 the leg/glute/abs workout plus added explosive lungs after the abs because they were missing from the TS5 workout.

Today (Tuesday) will be upper body choice and short intense cardio as soon as my coffee is done.

Did anyone read the article When Fat Loss Fails? Posted here not long ago, by Phil Kaplan? In this article he states that doing weight after an intense aerobic session may increase production of stress hormone. ( read fat: storage) Yikes! This is the way I've always done it. I didn't think it mattered. Any knowledgable people want to comment? I think the link to the article is :

Good morning everyone-

Judy, ya got me... I always do my weights after cardio because I feel like my muscles are appropriately warmed up and I can lift better. I know there was also a thread a little while ago about which to do first I think the conclusion was it didn't really matter (depending on which you wanted to work for better results - strength or fat loss?)

Today is S&H Legs/Shoulders and instead of MIC I'm going to do another HIIT (10-12 intervals)using IMAX1.

I'm going to work on my form for lifting the 50lbs over my head- seems the answer relies on "be careful!"

I'll check in later- hope everyone is well.

:)

Good Morning everyone,

It's not even 10 am where I'm at and I'm already feeling some DOMS from Kick Punch and Crunch. This is quite a shock because the last time I did this workout I didn't really feel anything and walked away with the feeling of 'I didn't work out very hard, how odd!' (odd because how can you not workout out hard when doing a Cathe workout). Well, today I got over my high kick envy (Darn Lorraine and Jai who just look SOOOOO cool with their high kicks;) ) and kicked at my level but with focus on pushing through the heal and the snap recoil. My glutes are already on fire! Also paid attention to my punches and when I looked down saw that my biceps were all pumped. Anyway, the workout felt great and now I get what everyone says about this one kicking their butts!

Judy- While I think there may be some validity to the article, my personal opinion is that we (meaning you, me, and the major of other avid exercisers who are women) do not lift heavy enough to produce major stress hormones. I imagine if you did 1 1/2 hours of intense cardio and then decided to lift super heavy for another 1 1/2 hours, yes, you could produce stress hormones that would want to hang on to body fat. But I know that I don't work out like that and I imagine most people don't so I don't think it becomes an issue. Just my two cents.

Brenda- way to go on the HIIT. Frankly, it sounds scary! You ROCK!! And what great Easter pictures! Thanks for sending them my way.

Hellos to everyone else this Tuesday morning. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello all!

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. I was off because the boys were out of school, and I had to take Michael to a follow-up CT scan in the morning and his 10 yr checkup in the afternoon. The ENT's office called in the afternoon to say that Michael's sinusitis has progressed since he's been ON antibiotics, and we may be looking at surgery! We have an appointment with him next Tuesday. We also have appointments set up with an allergist and a neurologist. I like finding out what's wrong, but I'm not thrilled if the answer is surgery. I want it to be something easy, so he doesn't have to keep going through so much. I guess we're still in the wait and see stage though...

I did work out yesterday. I did PUB up only (minus the abs), Power Hour abs, and Winsor Pilates Bun & Thigh sculpting. My knees were bothering me a little, I guess from KPC on Sunday, and for some reason, that pilates tape always helps my knees. Once again, it worked! Sabine, KPC gets my lats and lower back mainly. I was just so proud that I could do it all the way through, and actually be pretty much coordinated while doing it. I remember the first time I tried it, my arms kept doing the wrong punches on some of the combos, and I think I almost fell over doing a squat into a side kick!

Today, I'm unexpectedly taking a rest day. I've been feeling like I was catching something for over a week. I'm pretty sure it was allergies, but in the middle of the night I woke up feeling awful. I actually thought about staying home, but I dragged myself in, and don't feel too bad now. If I feel better tomorrow, I'll try to do something, but just keep it a little less strenuous.

Well, I've got to go. I hope everyone's having a good day!

Lisa, hope you're feeling better. I know the idea of surgery for your kids is always scary. Fortunately if that's what the final answer is it would be the end of a long uncomfortable time for him which would be great. Let us know what happens...

I'm trying to psych myself up for my workout- I need to start right now if I don't want to run out of time but I wanted a little motivation before starting. Hmmm. Where is everyone?

BTW Sabine, how are you feeling? Did your voice come back? Happy to send you a picture- actually I looked at it again and can't believe I chose that one. Everyone is looking a little cranky and tired, but we don't get many family pictures and I'm so proud that I finally figured out how to work my digital camera!

Judy, what pictures did you have (saw the picture ? thread)? I'm suddenly intrigued by the idea of online pictures and being able to see what everyone looks like so I can put a face w/a name. Technology.

OK, here I go. Will check in later.

You're a dynamo Brenda!

Brenda- Hope you had a good workout. I just acquired the DVD with IMAX on it and I must confess that I'm a bit scared to of it. I have a hard enough time with IMAX 2. And most people think IMAX is harder?!?! YIKES!!!

Thanks for asking about how I'm feeling. Yes, my voice is back for the most part. My allergies continue to be an issue and depending on the day my voice will get a bit scratchy and deeper. I kid you not when I say that on some days I sound like someone who charges by the minute to describe suggestive activities! I'm on a nasal inhaler for the duration of the season and am also taking over the counter allergy meds to try to cope. It's not always that successful. So, I'm better, just not 100%.

Lisa- I agree with Brenda completely. While I wouldn't wish surgery on anyone, especially a young child, if the procedure will put a complete end to all of your son's medical issues and his discomfort, then maybe it is the best course of action. Keep us posted! Also, way to have respect for your body and take a rest day when you felt you needed it!

Judy- what colleges is your son (I think I recall it's your son who's looking) interested in and that you'll be visiting?

Good almost afternoon everyone! Well Brenda, I joined you on the ME yesterday but skipped any cardio. I didn't start until nearly 9:30pm last night and and I just wasn't feeling HIIT at 10:30pm! So you can do HIIT on consecutive days? Let me know how your workout went.

Lisa, I don't know if this is related, but DH had frequent sinus problems all through childhood and early adulthood. He'd have theses cysts that would grow and burst (gross) plus infections. Finally in his early 20s he did something about it and the doc found that he had limited drainage from his sinuses. He ended up having 2 surgeries to basically add drainage holes to his sinuses. It was a good week recovery after, but it was a great improvement. And now that his is getting fit (yea!) he rarely gets sick. All this to say that even though it's hard to watch those you love go through discomfort (one of my boys had surgery when he was 3 but with totally corrective results), it's a blessing when they're healed.

Sabine, glad you're on the mend. Your comments about your voice were a crack-up!

Well, time for the Y. I'm not going to workout there today since I'm going to walk with my neighbor (and then try Brenda's HIIT workout! Ack!).

Hi all;
Finished KPC this early part of the afternoon too Sabine and yup if you go all out with that one you sure can get a slight case of DOMS ...it's one of those workouts in which I feel very strong ...I grit my teeth and make killer like sounds but for me that's the only way to do KPC...like Cathe says something in IMAX2 like do you want it easy or harder, I always go for harder. Tough, tough :)

IMAX is on for Wednesday and I have that one on vhs ...it's been awhile since I've done #1 since I always feel IMAX 2 is so much more fun. I want to say that I think both IMAX workouts a comparible but then again it's been awhile.

Hello's to everyone , it seems as since the kids are out of school this week my routines and times are out of whack. Well I've got to run , I'll try to see if I can peek in later.
Brenda let us know how you far with the 50# bar ;)

Done! I'm sorry, but you guys have to try this! It feels so hard when you're doing it but you push yourself a little further and then its over. Plus, you know the feeling you get when you're all finished w/ Step Blast or Imax? Well, I think I'm addicted.

I only did S&H shoulders- think I'll give my legs a rest.

Sabine, I don't think Imax is really harder than Imax2, it just seems a little less "fun" and the intensity cycles are a little more serious. Try it, you'll like it.

BTW, not to make light of your allergies (no, honest!), our dog suffers terribly from allergies- he gets red and itchy and is miserable. Finally my DH started injecting him w/steroids which gives him some relief, but he still has them. I see him and can't imagine how people deal w/the discomfort. Unfortunately he's very quiet but I'll keep you posted if his voice gets sexy.

Cindy, nice work on the chocolate~ I really found I can't have ANY or I slip into eating the whole bag. The Easter bunny got smart this year and only got books, small toys and jelly beans for the kids (plus a big chocolate bunny for each which is hard to take a small bite out of). I don't feel like wasting the calories on jelly beans.

I swear I have a life even though I've checked in 3 times already! Its rainy and cold, the older kids have playdates and the baby is playing w/the tupperware so its very nice and quiet for the time being.

I may check in later - or not.:)

Brenda, Sabine and CinDee,

Thank you for your words of encouragement regarding Michael. I know that if he needs to have surgery then that's what we'll do. He's just been through so much; I wish there was an easier solution. Like I said, we'll know more tomorrow.

Both Michael and Nicholas have had minor surgery before, but they were both too small to understand. This will be different, from that viewpoint at least. We will get through it though. I just want to let you all know that I really appreciate your support, and I will certainly keep you all up to date.

By the way, I addressed this to three specific people, because of their comments today, but you all give me support. I know from your posts that some of you have more contact with your friends and neighbors than I do on a regular basis. Between work and the kids, I don't seem to have too much time for that. I don't know whether it was Joy or Judy, but one of you commented recently that you were happy to see this thread thriving. I agree, especially because you all offer to me a sense of community that seems to be lacking in this fast paced world. THANK YOU!!!
