Good Morning girls!

Lori, I thought I'd give you a break and start the thread since I just got two off to school and am waiting for everyone else to get up- its pretty quiet today. You're going to need your rest for tonight, aren't you? What did you decide about the slumber party?

I'll be doing ME w/all of you today and may even go for a run w/the babies if my knees feel up for it. I'll play it by ear...

Good job on resisting the oreos Sabine- I succomed to the Cadbury egg last night and then had a handfull of minis. Its not even Easter yet and I've started on the chocolate. Tonight is Carrick's big #3 party so there's going to be a cake of course- ugh.

Tracy, I'm going to see what the other suggestions are for the pilates videos, but thanks for the offer- we should meet for coffee before you go anyway since we're so close!

Hope all of you have a good day-

Brenda

Good Friday morning all!

Well I worked out yesterday to the high intensity drills, abs and stretch of KPC and did PP minus the warmup . It was nice to take only pieces of KPC as I tend to do it in it's entirity and it just made it feel like a fresh new workout with PP included.

I got so hung up on pouring yesterday that I barely had time to get on the pc last night. At the moment I'm test burning a few candles I poured within the past 2 days as I'm using new molds and wicks. Just want to see if I have a good combination with the size.

Just finished having my protein/oatmeal drink and I'm going to wait about 1 hour or so to get my gear ready for today's workout which will be the step only portion of SJP combined with the kick punch combos of KPC.

Cadbury eggs ...well I used to love them, now I find them excessively sweet and they burn the back of my throat ...wierd huh?

When I'm approaching TOM as I am now I tend to crave some serious carbs like fresh baked bread with butter and honey. Oh boy it takes just so much for me not to bake any bread and I usually bake early Saturday and Sunday mornings for the family. I could eat warm bread with sweet whipped butter and a dip of honey all day long if I could when it's that TOM.

Have a Great day and Lori ...Hun it will get warm and spring like where you live just think happy warm pool type weather and it will get there before you know it. I can't wait for nice 70º weather here either. Old Man winter does not want to let go at all.

Hello everybody,

Today will be a modified PUB for me. Since I'm lifting heavier weight I will only go with Cathe's pace for chest flyes, lat pulldowns, anterior delt raises, triceps and biceps. For chest I'll be using a 40/45/50-BB for presses, and for back I'll be doing 15/20/25 for one-armed rows. I'll do these two different things first then do the chest flyes and lat pulldowns in a push/pull manner. For posterior delt raises, I'll be using 8/10/12, and for lateral raises, 10/12/15. So I'll be doing these VERY slowly. Wish me luck. I have a tough workout ahead.:) For sure I'll be doing some yoga for my back tonight, 15 minutes before I go to bed.

Shywolf, I like the way you're breaking down KPC to make new workouts for yourself. Especially like your SJP/KPC combo. I will definitely try that. Maybe this weekend.

Brenda, sometimes I use 1.5-lb. gloves for kickboxing. And I only use them for the KPC combos and the slow arm drills in CTX KB. I pause the DVD and take them off when I have to go fast. Don't want to injure my shoulders. I think those gloves will do well for my Tae Bo workouts as Billy Blanks' pace and impact is slower. You asked about Pilates... I got this DVD from Target called Pilates for Every Body. It has lots of workout combinations for beginners, intermediate and advanced exercisers. I'm still at the beginners level, trying to understand the principles behind Pilates and getting my form right. I also got Karen Voight's Total Body Pilates DVD but haven't tried it yet. I'm planning on doing so once I get to the intermediate level. So far I'm liking yoga more than Pilates as yoga gives me the stretching essential to my spine, but I'm thinking of subbing some Pilates for ab work as Pilates really works your core.

Sabine, congratulations on successfully keeping yourself from those Oreos. I myself have been having eating issues lately. My period will be coming in two days, and for the last two weeks I've been bingeing on really bad food. My eating has been good the last three days, however, and I hope this continues. These hormonal fluctuations can do severe damage to my eating habits.

Tracy, how's the big move coming along? Not too stressful, I hope.

Lori, I wish I could do as much cardio as you do and as often. Hopefully soon. Good luck with your daughter's party.

Later,
Pinky

Pinky, where did you get your gloves? I have found my shoulders can be sensative (I realized I need to really concentrate on using my pecs when doing chests so I don't cheat and use my shoulders). I think they'd be good to have for the slow movements like you said-

It must be the TOM for almost all of us- that's why I had the cadbury eggs... Shywolf, I know exactly what you mean- they are like eating pure icing but its all I had and that's how desparate I was!

I'm trying to get back on the nutrition wagon so the workouts mean something, otherwise it seems like a waste of time.

Hello to everyone! Yeah Friday!!! I'm going to try and go to the gym tomorrow and do the Body Bar class. I envy anyone who has the willpower to resist all those sweets. Luckily right now I don't have anything really tempting in my house right now. I've stayed away from baking alot until I can get back to being good with my eating. I am so jealous of all you guys. You are all so dedicated to your workouts. I think that is so great. I know I love doing Cathe's strength workouts - she really pushes you to the max. Anyway I hope everyone has a great weekend. I might try to check the site this weekend to catch up.
My husband and I are actually going out this weekend to dinner and a movie. Has anyone seen Secret Window or Taking Lives?

Kim

Good morning all,

Shywolf, you are killing me talking about fresh baked bread with butter and honey. That sounds great. Last weekend, I made waffles. I made one plain for my son Michael, one with chocolate chips for Nicholas, and just had enough batter left for half a waffle with blueberries for me. They were good. I save the leftovers, and heat them in the toaster the next morning for their breakfast that day. Boy, was I tempted by the leftovers with chocalate chips. I'm thinking now that I may have to make them again this weekend!

I've been doing well with my eating. My main goal has been to eat 5-7 fruits and vegetables a day. I started the first of the year, and I'm proud to say, I've kept to it. I bring in baby carrots and tangerines or oranges and bananas to work to eat instead of snacks, and I put dried cranberries on my cereal, and then have some vegatables with dinner and blueberries and or strawberries for my late night snack. The cafeteria here at work sells fresh baked cookies though, and I've been having a craving for one. I haven't given in so far... I've also started drinking green tea instead of soda. It's actually been a good substitute for me.

Brenda, the Winsor Pilates videos are a good introduction. Moria Stott (Stottpilates.com) is also very good. Some people find her dry or boring, but I find her just calm and relaxing. Also, Gaiam has some good pilates videos with someone names Ana Caban. And actually, Kathy Smith has a pilates for abs and a pilates for lower body, both are good. Pilates takes a lot of concentration to do it right. A lot of it is movement in isolation, for instance when you do single leg circles only your leg is moving; your torso and hips and the other leg are kept motionless. It takes a lot of control to do that, and if you don't realize that, you may feel like you're not getting much out of the exercises. I have a book on Pilates by Brooke Siler (the name escapes me right now), which is very good in explaining the history of pilates, the right way to practice in general, and then details every exercise and tells you what to do, why you're doing it, what it works, what not to do, and how to advance. In the weeks that I've been doing Pilates almost daily, my abs have flattened, my thighs have slimmed down, and my rear is tighter. Also, it does provide some stretching, and I've gotten more flexible.

All that said, I still hope to do some weight work this weekend.

Sabine, thanks for your thoughts on Humble Beginnings. I did some previews of each of the hi-lo workouts. 5004 seems a little manic to me, and yes, those outfits are distracting! I was surprised though, I've heard that 9801 is very complex. It didn't seem so to me watching it, but maybe I just didn't watch enough. I think I will try something from Christi this weekend, although this morning, Rhythmic Step was calling to me...maybe just the warmup and combo #1...we'll see!

I hope everyone is well. Talk to you later!

Work is an incredibly dangerous place this morning. I went to the staff room to get coffee and not only were there more mini cupcakes up for grabs, but green sprinkled shamrock cookies were also there. But I managed to walk on by. I did eventually cave when I picked up my mail and the secretary had Girl Scout peanut butter patties and Nestle eggs in a huge bowl by her desk. Only one of each though, so I'm not without some restraint :p .

This morning was ME, which is one of my favorite Cathe workouts. I really concentrated on my form for lunges and really felt it in the butt/hamstrings which is a good thing. Feel really good after doing this workout!

Good luck with the slumber party Lorihart!

Brenda, I agree with the Stott recommendation for Pilates. I think she uses better form and has better pacing the Mari Winsor, who seems to take forever between exercises explaining them. I do have Karen Voight's Core Essentials and it has some really good pilates based ab work. I've kind of put pilates on the back burner because while I can feel the work in my abs and hips quite a bit, I hate the imbalance I feel because the upper body work is so minimal. Just my two cents. BTW, Stott has a package deal where you get 4 DVD and a 5 ft. stretchy band for I think $40. The website is www.stottpilates.com (I think).

Pinky, is your company still there or are you officially done with your hosting duties? Where is home and when are you going?

Hellos to Lisa (BTW, 5004 is not as manic is it appears, I had quite a bit of fun doing it), Elizabeth, Joy, Shywolf (the bread story was making my mouth water), Kim, and Judy (who is back in a couple of days, right?), and Lorisax, wherever you are!

Good afternoon everyone.
just finished up ME; the more I do that workout the more I like it. And I decided today that I am going to cave and buy myself a high step after we move. I have been doing leg presses on a chair and a stool, and I am tired of feeling unstable. So that will be my present to myself. Do any of you have the high step, and if so, do you think it was a wise purchase?

I have a crazy weekend scheduled, although not as crazy as Lori's, but I am hoping to squeeze in some workouts. Next Thursday my husband and I leave to spend the weekend in San Francisco, then we are going to Michigan to try and buy a house so we have somewhere to move to. I do so badly when I am out of my routine, so I am trying to figure out what I can do while staying in hotels to keep myself active. I was thinking about packing some resistance bands. Anyone have any great suggestions?

Sabine, don't you live in the SF area? what's the weather like these days (I never know how to pack for there). My dad is turning 60 and just retired, so we (my brother, sister and their spouses) are surprising him with a weekend in the city - no kids!! I can't wait.

Hello to all.
Tracy

Tracy,

I just saw your question about the high step. I got one for Christmas and like it a lot. I have the Original Step also, and previously had only four risers for it. I like being able to use the risers from the high step to raise up the Original Step for weight work (so that it's high like Cathe's in some of the videos).

Also, resistance bands are a good idea, of course, for your trip, and if you do any yoga you'll be able to do that as well. Also, you can always do pushups, and planks, and if there's a low table, you can use that for tricep dips.

HI Everyone,
Just a quick post before all the kids show up.I am feeling tired already and there is only 1 kid here! I should have gotten off of work earlier.I am like my mother when it comes to getting frazzled. She gets overwhelmed very easily and I am turning out just like her.
Anyway,I will check in tomorrow and let everyone know how it went!
Wish me luck,
LOri:)
p.s I didn't get a workout in today;(

Hi Brenda, I got my gloves from Wal-Mart for about $10. It's made by Bally's and is good enough for my purposes. I've seen other kinds on fitness1st for more than twice that much.

Pinky

Hi Sabine, company is still here. Funny, but we're all leaving on the same day. They, for SF. Me, for Cebu, Philippines. I wish I could've left sooner, but I wanted to travel with my brother and sister-in-law who are visiting the country right now. But because our house is full, I can't invite them over. I would if I had the space. So they're staying with my cousin in LA and flying to St. Louis next week to see some family friends there. We'll all meet in LA on the 29th. Company actually wanted to stay 'til July. I told my husband no way. It's either I go home with my brother and never return so he can marry his family, or they leave when they said they would. Well, turns out I get both. They leave at the end of the month and I get to go home and be with my family for a while. I can't wait to show my son the beaches and the hermit crabs, which he lovingly calls "kermit crabs".:)
