BFL Tuesday 10/02

Jennifer-Are you planning an interval (HIIT) workout? Can I set you up for a challenge? How about treadmill....top out at speed of 7.5 (that's about a 7:30 mile, somewhere around there). Better yet...can you beat me? I topped out at 8.0 on the TM...7:00 mile. (sorry if that sound arrogant....I don't know what your running style/speed is).

OK...my heart is POUNDING in my chest. WHY? You'd think I did another workout with the way it's pounding! BUT....I've taken the plunge...head first on thei 12 week BFL Challenge. I uploaded my week 0 BEFORE photos on my profile on the BFL tracker. My fingers were shaking as I hit the upload button. BUT>..I figure the only way to GET results and work hard is to embarass myself FIRST! LOL YUCKO!

Gayle

LOL ~ Are you talking the last minute @ 7.5-8.0? Or run for the entire 20 mins at that speed? LOL -- if that's the case, H*ll no, you have me beat their!

Last when I was doing the challenge, I could do the last minute or so, (tops) at 8.0-8.5..
Can you give me a example of your interval workout on the Treadmill? Do you walk/run or job/run ..?
I would love to try it out..and give it a go.
Tonight I probably couldn't, only b/c I forgot my knee brace at home. If I run I need that on or- I would be down...

You go Girl~ I'm sure your pics look great! I posted my new pics also on there, NOT GOOD! I could only do the chest down, since I took them w/ my phone... (kids broke the digital again).

Hi again,

Just came back from picking my son up. I have four kids (not really kids) 3 boys ages 22,18 and 12. My daughter for whom I mentioned earlier is going to be 21 this month. She takes a train into college everyday. (Beats living in the run down dorms) She also interns at a lab in Cambridge MA. She is currently studying Progeria which is an aging disease in children. SOOOO proud of her.
My oldest son moved out with his girlfriend this past Mar. and works f/t as a manager and is also in school for Engineering. His girlfriend is studying to be a nurse.
My second son whom I love dearly has taken time off from work and is basically hanging out. Mows the lawn when he wants something...like my car. He has an interest in music and plays in a band.
My youngest is in 7th grade and doing well. He is a very smart and relaxed individual. He loves running and hiking with me. Yesterday we went for a hike checking out bike ramps in the woods. I snapped a picture of him with my phone which I wish I could share with you all. It was so cool the way the ramps went off a cliff and into a swamp with lots of ferns around it.

Me...lots to tell. I have studied many different careers and ended up owning a business. (My children had a lot to do with that direction.) My husband and I developed a device for childproof outlet covers. It has been a long haul to get this to market. Currently we sell this product only on the internet. At this time there is a marketing company looking into the retail sector and hopefully this will go retail before the end of the year.

Jill: I was totally fasinated with Geology when I was younger. What a great place to live there in CO! As for Cathe and her team...they must have indestructable knees. Or the flooring they workout on is very well cushioned. My cellar is my workout area and is cement with a carpet too.

Gayle: You mentioned school/work in your last entry. Are you taking some classes as well? What is your work like?
What color are you painting your livingroom?

Jennifer: The teenage years are the most difficult for all. I have learned to take very deep breaths before saying anything when things are not going easy. When the kids grow up and look back...they will realize how hard it was and how much you tried to do for them. (Or when they have their own kids they will ask themselves (How did she do it?)

Erin: What grade do you teach?

Veronika: I always wished I could have been able to homeschool my kids. If my stepmother had lived closer we could have done this together.

Well, that about sums it up for now.

On to the cardio workout of the day!:7

Take Care,

Gayle and Jennifer,

You ladies are really challenging each other and I can't get into the action yet. I know how you felt about posting your pics. All I did was put my measurements down and I was frantic about anyone seeing that. So I admire you.

Gayle,as for homeschooling,I don't have the patience either.A lot of times I feel like I have wounded my children because of my impatience. Then there are lots of days when I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to do this .It all evens out.You know, even Steven.

Hey, I think I've become a faster typer in the last couple of days.
I know where all the keys are and I use the right fingers but I want it to be so perfect that it slows me down. Any advice from you fast typists?

Veronika
Rise and Shine!

I'm a tad bummed. I thought I was going to do the couch to 5k with my friend. Well, the gym has cancelled my month-to-month membership and now wants 50 a month! I just can't do that. So, its back to just dvd's. My problem is that I really needed that accountability of having my friend waiting on me at the gym at 6am sharp! I make excuses too much and can't get out of bed when I am on my own!!

Little about me:
Married with 2 kids...isaac is 3 and Hannah is 10mths. I live in Mobile, AL, but just moved back from Richmond, VA. I am a SAHM and right now its taking all I have to not run to get a job! I love my kids, love being a sahm, but the only having 1 car thing is killing me. I get so lonely during the day. The gym was my 'me' time. I can't even potty alone...so I really needed some alone time. BUt, everything happens for a reason!

Hope you all had a great day!

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

How I remember well the days of having to leave the bathroom open just to keep an eye on three young babies running around. My first 2 were just 15months apart so it was like twins. The next was just 3 years behind the 2nd. He was running (not a walker) at 6 months!
We spent a lot of time out doors at parks and any playground I could find. Met a lot of women with children as you can imagine.

I just received a flyer from the YMCA with their newest offer of 5 weeks for $59. It is called the 5 Weeks to Fitness program. They also offer childcare. Of course this all depends upon where you live! ;-) Might be worth checking out if you have one in your town. Their family programs are great.

My time for working out back then was very early in the morning or later in the evening when my DH could keep them occupied for a time.
He was a great story teller. My daughter has become an avid writer from the time she could hold a crayon. I still have her little books that she would make. Now being older she has novels that need to get to the editor. I wish she would get up the courage to just do it.

Don't give up! You can do this! Make your bed and close the door so your not tempted to crawl back in. Also, first thing in the morning put on your workout clothes for this will get you moving. It works for me.

Take Care,

thanks Heidi.

I can't make the bed, as we are a co-sleeping family and my dh and kids are still sleepig in the AM. I might call the Y, but it's kinda far. The thing with the nursery is that my children are so used to me (as in I rarely have a sitter...only 1 in my daughters 10 months of life) and the daycare people come get me before i even get warmed up! I prefer cathe anyways, I just wanted the time alone.

I hate going at night because I only have 3 precious hours a night to spend with my husband, and I don't think it is fair to leave him for 1 hour each night. I'm sure i'm in the minority here...but the time we have is precious and I don't want to give that up.

I'll figure it out, i'm just bummed about my gym:(
:(

Hi all,

I thinking of starting BFL on Monday. I just have some questions. For those of you using the pyramids, are you using the pyramids as produced? also is this considered strength training or endurance?

Just trying to get organized.
TIA,

Deanie

Hi Jessica,

Boy are you bringing the memories of old back!

Sleeping on the floor with the kids on either side etc.. I didn't dare put them in the crib because they would just climb back out! They too were a very clingy bunch. It just melts my heart to think about the times we had together. I wouldn't trade that for anything!;-)

Time spent with family is so precious as you said and I totally agree.

Have a good nights rest.

Hey guys. THis has to be quick! I got the kids tucked in and I am LITERALLY choking down yogurt and cottage cheese. YUCK! I LOVE yogurt, but this cottage cheese stuff is for the BIRDS! LOL I bought the whipped kind, but I think tomorrow I will be putting some in the blender to actually make it SMOOTH! I'm mixing a little bit of each together, putting it in my mouth and then just swallowing! lol OH well...all things will come together, right? Eventually!

Jennifer-for my TM intervals this morning, I did speeds like this:

6.0
6.0
6.5
7.0
7.5
8.0
6.5
7.0
7.5
8.0
6.5
7.0
7.5
8.0
6.5
7.0
7.5
8.0
8.5
4.0
(each for 1 minute) LIke I said this morning...after running that 8.5 speed interval, I felt like I was going to be sick! lol

OK....have to finish this yogurt/cottage cheese YUCK and finish my base primer coat (I'm going to be painting the front living room a deep, golden brown mustard color).

Gayle

Hi Gayle,

Going to try this out on Thurday. I run with my daughter on trails at a constant speed ranging between 7:30-9 depending on the hills.
This might be possible on the treadmill for me. I will have to let you know...

Thanks for the challenge!:7

Good luck with your painting tonight. Sounds like an interesting color. What other colors go with that? And what design theme are you aiming for?

I have my own livingroom/den to paint. It is a very big open space with pillars. This also opens into the dining room area. I can't decide on how to even approach painting it yet.

Have a great evening!
