BFL Check-in 5/9-5/15

Happy Mothers Day all! Hope everyone is doing good and treating yourself to something special. For me, it was a Bubba Chicken sandwich at LoneStar Steakhouse! :9 I deserve it right??? Ha ha! Well, I'll just have to be super good the rest of the week.

I didn't see anyone start the check-in so I figured I would. Hope that's okay?? ;)

So, I had a good week! I lost 4 lbs!!!! I can not believe it! I hadn't lost wt on the scale in wks! I think it must have been the clean eating or something! Plus I didn't miss a workout except for Friday I went shopping for 3 hours and was totally sweating so I never made it to the gym. Figure I at least got some cardio in, right?? I weighed myself again today and yep... the 4 lbs is still gone even after Free Day!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I am so happy and so motivated now! I still have so far to go and agree that it is about the journey and the life changes not just a fast loss, right? I had been working for so long w/no wt change and one week of cleaner eating and it starts to fall off again? All my pants are fitting different. I am so happy. We have mostly been eating the Eating For Life meals in the book. There must be something about them b/c I sware every time I stick to them I just lose the weight. Some of them are so yummy I feel like I am cheating but I guess that is what he's all about. Changes that you can do for a lifetime!

Tonight we are having the sesame stir fry. Every week we make a ton of this and eat it all wk both me and my hubby have wt loss. I think it must be the cabbage or something? So, tonight I am going to triple the recipe and eat it up all week. Last week we made the chicken enchiladas and I had them 3 days for either dinner or lunch leftover. I worried that the enchilada sauce might be bad but I guess it must not be that bad. It only has like 3 carbs in a serving. I also cut out all of my real eggs. Except Friday I had 2 eggs for bkfst.

I also quit eating my Promax bars and stuck to the Myoplex lite bars. I also quit putting anything except water in my shakes. I use to mix 1/2 cup o.j. or 1/2 tsp of peanut butter. Last week I ate only water and ice. I am not sure what really took off the wt finally? Maybe it was a combo of all the changes? I know I won't lose that much again in one week but it was sure nice to see that scale go down finally!!!! Now only 30 more pounds to go to my goal weight...uuuugghhhhhhh! x(

Also, I found a favorite recipe for Friday nights - the sloppy joes in the EFL book. Even my family loves them! We made ours with lean ground beef instead of turkey and they were so yummy. I felt like I was cheating but really wasn't other than the bread?? I figure it was a heck of a lot better than what I usually eat on Friday's.

So, this week my goals are as follows:
1. Eat even cleaner than last week.
2. Get ALL workouts in no matter what!
3. No eggs in the morning until Friday
4. More water
5. Hit my 10's!

I am going to the gym tomorrow night for my fav step class. Kicks my butt every time. Then it is Cathe and the treadmill the rest of the week for me.

Kristi - the s/w can be installed in multiple places. The thing I hate tho is you can't see the same stuff at work and home. It is local to your machine. But the simplicity and speed of it makes it all worth it. I just write down what I eat all day at work and then log it at night.

Well... I'll quit babbling. I feel sorry for you if you actually read this entire thing. Truly didn't mean to bore you to death!!!!!

What are you guys up to this week? What are you goals? How was your week last week?

Congratulations - that is awesome. I have fallen off the wagon this past week and gained 2 pounds. I laid off the exercise a bit too. Well, it's back to business this week and hopefully, I can shed what I've gained. BFL is so great if you follow it. It is the best program out there in my opinion.

- Shopgirl :)

Good morning everyone!

Fitnut that is terrific news about your 4 lb weight loss!! Keep up the good work. I wish I could report one, but alas I'm still down only 2 pounds. My scale must be broken!!:) :) :) Just kidding. These last 10 pounds are definitely the hardest to lose. This is the beginning of week 5 for me. My eating is not pristine, but it is not that bad either, but enough to hamper my results. I don't know how you do it Fitnut. You must have the willpower of stone.

Shopgirl, I agree that BFL is one of the best programs around. That being said I am a wanderer. I've actually been considering doing M&F Hers "Lose 10 Pounds in a Month" workout & eating plan from last year. Blasphemy!! The idea that appeals to me is the concept of eating 3 - 100 calorie extras a day, which would take care of my sweet tooth. On the plan you eat 1600 daily. The only thing primarily keeping me from doing it is the scary thought of doing a morning cardio as well as an afternoon workout, missing you guys, and the thought of failing. What is a girl to do?

Anyway, I hope everyone has a clean eating day and gets in their workouts. Keep up the good work!! Today is a brand new day.
Kristi

Hi all - I start my 5th week of BFL tomorrow. I am really loving it so far, but sad to say I haven't lost any weight! I THINK my measurements might have shrunk a LITTLE, but I really wish I could see some weight loss. :( I won't give up, though!

I made the sloppy joes this week, too - EXCELLENT!!! I also really liked the bbq chicken pizza recipe for lunch, and the taco pasta salad for dinner. Tonight I am trying the chilie casserole (with the stuffed chilies in it). I think the hardest thing for me is finding time in the kitchen to get all my meals prepared.

As for workouts, I have been doing Cathe PUB/PLB, and either Cathe cardio or a spinning tape on cardio days. I really need to work on my arms as I'm in a wedding in Oct. and the dress is very skimpy on top.

Anyway, glad to see this check in, and hope you all have a great week!!!!

Hi everybody,

Well, it was more like Free Weekend for me as far as eating goes!! My DH made me my favorite (lasagna) for Mother's Day, which we still have around because the man just doesn't know how to do anything in small portions! But, I haven't gained any weight so I'm going with that. Besides, it was a special occasion and I never really do that.

Workout-wise, I did PLB on Saturday and I must say, the weight work is topping off for me. The ball work is still killing me, but I think it's time to switch to a new rotation. Very exciting, but I'm torn which way to go! I've been planning to switch to Slow & Heavy, but over the weekend I got to thinking about Pure Strength! I never really used this series in a rotation before, I always just did whatever I felt like. So I don't know what kind of gains I would see.
Anyone here using this? Also, S&H is more push/pull, isn't it? How well would that fit the BFL program as opposed to PS?

BTW- last night I did cardio conditioning from KPC and I was just soaked, but in a good way of course! My DH came in while I was working out, the jab-cross -jumping knee smash part - and he was like Holy ....!! (His first experience w/Cathe was Cardio Kicks, which he made it through the warm-up and cried Uncle. So to see KPC in action must have been overwhelming for him. He has more of a stocky body-builder frame, so cardio is treadmill or running, nothing fancy!)

Fitnut, I'm so glad to hear about your success! I'm also of the long-winded variety (can you tell?), so don't be shy!! I personally love to hear all about how everyone is doing. I checked my notes on my calendar, and I have lost 4 pounds since January. Noting that I wasn't working out consistently until mid-March, I'm happy with that. I hope you keep up the good work!!

Well, I should go before I think of something else that will take a
whole page!! Have a great day everyone,

TTFN,

Tricia

Wayne, Sorry it took so long for someone to respond. I brought my EFL book to work to give you the recipe. The recipe is for 2 servings.

2 portions of brown rice (1/2 c. uncooked)
2 portions of lean ground beef (about 1/2 lb.)
1 Tbsp. Toasted sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 green onions, sliced
1 c. broccoli slaw (found near bagged salads in produce dept.)
1 c. napa cabbage, shredded
1 Tbsp. lite soy sauce
Crushed red pepper flakes, to taste.

Prepare brown rice according to directions.

While rice is cooking, in medium skillet or wok brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Remove the beef from the skillet, drain, and set aside.

Heat sesame oil in the skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and green onions; stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add the broccoli slaw and cabbage; stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add rice and soy sauce; stir-fry for 2 more minutes.

Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet along with the cooked rice and vegetable mixture and season with red pepper flakes, to tase. Stir until ingredients are well combined and heated through, about 2 minutes.

Divide into 2 portions, serve and enjoy.

Good Morning everyone!
I'm leaving for the Bahamas tomorrow, so I won't be able to check in with you until next week, but I wanted to congratulate everyone for doing so well! You guys rock and are my motivation! I have been eating so clean, and love the recipes from the EFL book (they are so good that I too feel like I'm cheating!) but no weight loss yet. I feel great, so I'll take it (for now!). I still have the "juicy booty" (as DH calls it) and I'd love for it to be just a tad smaller. Actually, it's not my butt that I hate, it's this little fat pad in the lower sacral region of my back, which makes my butt seem bigger than it is. OK - i'm sure you all needed to know that! So my cheat day was wonderful - I didn't want to have it, but thought what the heck, I'm allowed to have it, so I did.

Have a great rest of the week and I look forward to reporting out any progress I have!

take care...

Good morning ladies!

I hope everyone had a good day yesterday! Tricia, it sounds like you had one kick-butt workout, literally, yesterday. Great job!

I've been slacking. Today is a new day though and I began mine with a homemade non-fat blueberry protein muffin and 8 oz of skim milk. I brought my journal to work today to try to set it up to start using it again. Maybe then I will hold myself more accountable for the bad choices I make. My daily soft drink weakness has got to go, but it is so hard to eliminate it from my day. If only I liked diet coke instead then it would at least be a better choice and I could drink an extra glass of water. I will probably have to make myself start to like it. Also, I need to get my 10 8 oz glasses of water in. When I exercise I have no problem afterwards getting in 32 oz. at one sitting, but that still leaves me lagging in the water department.

Last night I tried the Caribbean Chicken Salad on page 106. It was so delicious. I loved the use of mandarine oranges and pineapple in the salad. It added a natural sweetness to it. Very tasty. On the menu for Wednesday night's dinner is Taco-Pasta Salad. Tonight we are scheduled to have hamburgers and coleslaw.

Tonight I hope to get in a 3 mile run with my son and dog and then do the PUB/PLB Premix and abs.

I wish everyone a good day with exercising and eating well.
Kristi

Hi FitNut - I forgot to ask you why you weren't going to eat eggs in the morning? I eat them (egg beaters) every day so I was wondering if I should change it?

Hey Gemini Girl!

Have a wonderful time in the Bahamas! I'm very happy for you and envious of your trip. Enjoy the sun and beach for me! You will need to tell us all about it when you return. Hopefully by the time you return I will have some progress to report, trying to keep positive.

Have fun!!

Hi all,

I thought I'd go ahead and post since I might not get to again today.

I did Slow and Heavy Chest & Back. I did the planks first, then the weight work. After that, I tacked on the abs from Tri's, Bi's and Abs. I was able to stay heavy the whole way through, which must be due to the Pyramids. It was weird to hear Cathe say she would need to go lighter, and I was staying where I was at!! That has NEVER happened before!

As for eating, I had my 2 cups of coffee for breakfast, a ham sandwich with Healthy Choice Ham, wheat bread and Fat free Miracle Whip as well as a yogurt for lunch. Then a snack of 2 pieces of string cheese, and another of and Advantage Energy Bar (Creamy Peanut Butter). It wasn't quite Creamy...but otherwise it was really good!
I've gotta go to the store for supper supplies, so I don't know what I'll get yet. Well, that's about it - see you tomorrow!

Tricia

Last night I did Imax 2 Intervals 1-5 and then tacked on Muscle and Endurance. I won't be doing intervals and weight training on the same day again though. Once I completed Imax 2 I kept losing focus on the weight training and I was pretty tired from giving those 5 intervals my all.

I think tonight I will do my 3 mile run around my neighborhood. My DH has a softball game tonight pretty late and I think we all will be going to see him play so I might only get in my running.

Tonight for supper is the Taco Pasta Salad. I can't wait to give it a try.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Confession time - I not only fell off the BFL wagon, I rolled down the hill, through the pond and back up the other side of the valley. Last night my kids and I had Outback take-out at 9:00 p.m. Man, I loooove those Bloomin' Onions. Nothing like eating 1500 grams of fat before you lay down and go to sleep. I did Boot Camp this morning as a punishment ;)

Good thing I'm going to Weight Watchers on Friday. Has anybody done WW and BFL at the same time? Are they compatible?

Have a good one.
- Shopgirl

Shopgirl, you had me ROTFLMAO. I guess I should confess too, I fell off the BFL wagon yesterday at lunch time when I had Wendy's and also this morning for breakfast with some cherry sweet rolls and a coke. For lunch I will be much better when I go to Subway though. I plan to have a 6" roasted chicken sub with plenty of veggies. If I can control myself then I will only eat half and save the other half for later, but I'm not promising anything.

I am discouraged that I have not dropped any weight even though I have been following EFL pretty well but with a small calorie treat here and there and still getting in the workouts. Those treats must make a big difference, but I just don't have the willpower to limit myself totally to just authorized foods. I guess I am not a poster child for BFL or EFL. Maybe I need to check out my other possible diet option which is trying M&F Hers "Lose 10 Pounds in 1 Month". I probably won't lose 10 pounds, but it would make me work my butt off. The great thing about the program that I keep coming back to is the idea of getting 3 100 calorie extras a day. That to me sounds great because it would let me have my daily coke and a couple of other small extras. I just really hate saying I failed at BFL/EFL when I truly think it is a great program, but maybe not the one to get the results that I really want right now.

Sorry to be a downer and not very encouraging, just trying to weigh my options and find what I CAN do to achieve my goals.

Hey Kristi - is there a link to the M&F Hers "Lose 10 pounds" diet? Even if I only lost 5, I'd be happy.

I am going to stick with BFL for a while longer, because I had such fantastic results the last time. My discipline has been horrible to date, but I am determined to get it back. }(

Hang in there.
Shopgirl

Hello everyone. It's been awhile since I posted. I fell HARD off the wagon for a few weeks. No excuses but I haven't had the mental energy to deal with much lately. Home life has been awful lately, but I'm tired of feeling crappy physcially AND mentally and it's time to climb back up the hill. Thought if I posted today and committment it might help some!!! I'm going to do Intense Moves tonight, go shop at lunch, drink water and STICK TO PLAN...I mean really, how hard is it...right???? :)

Colleen

Hey Shopgirl!

I have the article in my April 2003 issue. www.findarticles.com does not list that issue. I'm going to head over to M&F Hers website and see if anyone has a link to that article. If you have a fax machine I can fax them to you, there are about 10 pages, or I can just give you the specifics of the program. I will let you know if I am able to find a link.

Do you think we should do a separate thread for this instead of the BFL Check In? I feel like I am trying to convert others by posting in this thread.

That's a good idea. Post it on another thread, as I'm sure many people on this board will be interested in checking it out.

Thanks for doing the leg work on this. :)

Hi ladies and gents,

I did pretty good eating today. I made the taco pasta salad from EFL and it was super tasty (in 20 minutes!). Otherwise, I had a shake for breakfast, an EAS AdvantEdge bar(Caramel peanut Butter-the best I've had!) and leftovers for supper. I've had 64 oz. of water, and 2 cups of coffee. Only downside to today is no workout. DH left for out of town jobsite again, so I was busy with alot of business stuff. And nobody goes to bed on time when he's gone!! I swear, it's in the air that he's gone -because many a night (usually 5 a week!) he isn't home before Isabella's bedtime and she goes right down!!

So tomorrow I may try to do Blastmania early and in the evening do S&H Biceps/Triceps/Abs.

I hope everyone is doing well today and I'll "see" you tomorrow.
Oh, BTW----I lost another pound!!!! That makes six total since January 15!! What a surprise that was, I even weighed myself twice because I just didn't believe it. Keep going, we're getting there - it just might take longer than we thought!
TTYL,
Tricia
