Better Burn Better Buns

LOVED it! I just finished this tonight for the first time. I did Body Max last night using lighter weights for the lower body circuit. I don't think I will do that again the night before BBBB. This was a good cardio/lower body workout. I love the cardio moves that incorporated a lot of core work. The core work at the end and the stretches were really great. I loved the opening WU and moves using the med ball and a stick. My core was really engaged and warmed up. My heart rate got up higher with this one than with EFM or SIM. My lower body was burning when doing the standing exercises usuing the gliding discs (you can use paper plates or rags). I did not think I was going to care for the music on preview, but found the music very motivating while actually doing the workout. I know I'm not as good at writing reviews as many others but I just wanted everyone to know how much I am enjoying the TLT's and especially BBBB!

Edited to add that I really enjoyed the cardio where we pretned to step over a high hurdle then get down low to go under a low table.

Thanks for that review, Angela. I'm always looking for good lower body workouts. That's my trouble area. Do you think you can substitute a dumbbell for the weighted ball? Also, you have those discs? How is that working for you? Did you get the discs with the video? I've been curious about it. I never thought of using paper plates. Sounds like a good substitute. Thanks for the info. :)

Angela -

Is this a series that should be purchased all at once, or will the individual workouts do well enough for a while? Thanks!

Bam,
I happened to already own the discs. I bought them at Walmart with the Mindy Mylrea workout (which I don't care for). Now, I'm so glad that I didn't trade the discs away. Tracie and her team use rags. She recommends paper plates on a carpeted surface. The interesting thing about BBBB is I'm not sore today. My lower back feels quite sore, but that may just be PMS...tee hee. There was some great work for posture in here also.

Christine,
I think you could reap benefit from one to all of the workouts. Out of the three I've done BBBB was my favorite to do (that may change as I do them more and become more famliar with the moves). But I loved so many of the moves from BBBB. Finding Your Core is on my agenda for tomorrow and based on preview this looks like more total body training with no cardio. I really think you could start with one. There are so many things I like about each workout. After I've done them all more and feel more comfortable I want to write out what I appreciate about each workout. There are many ways to use these and I'm just beginning...all I know is these are such a nice change of pace, still very challenging, and I will use these workouts for many years to come.

There is only one workout per DVD and no premixes, but a great investment all the same, in my opinion!

Edited to answer you Bam. I personally, would not feel comfortable using a DB for the ball in the cardio segments. I think it could be awkward. You probably COULD but I think it would not feel as comfortable. HTH!!!

Thanks Angela for the info. Could you please give me an update in the future to see if it was the workout that bothered your back or "our gift from mother nature" that did. :7 I've got lower back problems and would not want to invest in a dvd that would aggravate it.

On another note, do you find the discs useful for other leg exercises? They do look kinda interesting.

>What is the weight of the ball used in these workouts? I have
>an 8lb.

That would be WAY too heavy for these. A 4# ball is a good start. And they are small, hand-held balls (I got some by Valeo at www.amazon.com )not regular med balls.

I started with a 3# ball (because that's all I had at the time, some Karen Voight ' Green Genies') and now am usiing the 4# Valeo for the ball work. I'd like to get a 5# ball (I have a 6#, but for these small movements and large ROM, a smaller increase in weight is better, IMO).

Well, my back is not sore today and I went ahead and did Finding Your Core last night (yep...loved it too). I followed that up with SM #2 and found it to be a perfect compliment to FYC. I don't think these will aggravate a back condition BUT you must use MUCH lighter weights than you are probably used to and focus on executing the moves correctly. Some of the moves look deceptively simple and then I try it and it's a whole other story. I will be using less weight the next time I do any of these (and I didn't go above 10lb. DB's) to work on form and figure out exactly what is supposed to be working. These are not going to build strength/endurance the same way Cathe does so heavy weights right now are not the focus. I have to change my thinking. How's that for a long winded answer. I DO think my back soreness was a little bit of both. You are engaging the core area a lot to stabilize in these workouts. I'm not sure what you mean about finding the disc useful for other leg exercises. The exercises were different and I feel they will be effective. Of course, I've only done each workout once at this point. My lower back was worked in BBBB but I think that is a plus!

Yea, I actually went out and purchased an 8lb. ball. First of all it is gigantum. Second of all, now that I've actually done the workouts, it is just laughable to me to think about me even TRYING an 8lb. med. ball at this point. It's my favorite color too...purple and it just sits there mocking me, waiting to be used. I may attempt to use it in the core sections of BC...but I will probably collapse.;(

Angela - Thank you so much for posting these! I ordered BBBB and FYC - so I'm going to be doing these soon. I appreciate the help!

As an aside, I got those small hand-held med balls in TJ Maxx or Marshall's for a couple of bucks each.

I haven't tried these workouts yet (shame on me!), but I"m going to go for BBBB later on.

Thanks for the reviews, Angela.

Marie

Oh Christine, I hope you like them as much as I do! Post your thoughts after you've viewed and/or tried them.

Marie, get on going on these workouts girl...and I will be checking out TJ Maxx and Marshall's this weekend!

This one is on my platter for tomorrow morning. About the ball, I purchased a 4 pound little ball at Dick's for 15.00. It is a Go Fit ball and worked well for SIM.

I just bought a 3 pound and a 5 pound "squishy ball" (that phrase has be soooo bantered around the office today) from Big 5. I'm really excited about trying these. I ordered the BBBB from Collage and sometimes I get those in a two days - which would mean Friday or Saturday (I ordered yesterday). I'm planning on doing GS legs tomorrow. If I get this on Friday, I KNOW I'm going to want to try it Saturday. Oh well - sore legs are us!

Bam,
I came back to say that my mid/lat area is a little bit sore today as are my triceps. I did FYC on Wednesday and BBBB on Tuesday. I probably should not do these back to back but I'm not overly sore. Last night I did KPC minus the abs with 20 min. of yoga (I began noticing that I was a little sore during last nights workout). I don't know that these workouts will aggravate you back condition, but I've noticed that I don't think I'm sore until I do another workout then I notice I'm sore. 'Hope that makes sense. They have a modifier that you can watch and they give her good camera time so you can usually see what she is doing until you figure out the moves and what will work for you. My sore is a good sore, but my lower back is now not sore at all!

Thanks for the review Angela. I watched the BBBB video clip on TLT website and liked what I saw! Looks like the perfect change up workout as, unlike most forum members, my body has memorized all the Cathe workouts.

I'm ordering today. Will incorporate it as a post running workout.

I absolutely LOVE this one too, as well as Endurance for Movement...as a matter of fact, I've got the other 2 on order now. :) Something about Better Burn Better Buns, though, that just all comes together...great workout! :)

I did this one for the first time today. Some parts were awkward to me as I didn't preview it all the way through before doing it, and when Traci started doing some of the exercises faster, I was falling over a bit, lol.

I liked the workout a lot. It was definitely totally different from anything else I do and very different from Cathe. Different's not bad, though. I felt like my core got a tremendous workout (which is weird since this one was supposed to be buns, but maybe I'll feel all that squeezing tomorrow, I hope!!) and I can see that it would definitely help develop more flexibility.

Next I'll be trying FYC, but probably not until early next week. I prefer the IMAX torture on the weekends. }(

Marie

Thanks for the review Marie. Please let us know if your bunnies are feelin' it tomorrow. "Burn, baby, burn!" :p

I just got this one in the mail and previewed it tonight. I have carpet so I will be using paper plates. I've never used them before. Do your feet slip off them? This is the first workout I've bought from the Traci Long series. How do you compare this workout to a Cathe workout as far as difficulty? and that "worked out" feeling like you get with Cathe?

I'm trying it in the morning. It looks so fun!

Michelle:)
