Best rotation strategy for weight loss?

Cathe,
What do you think is best for weight loss - split workouts like GymStyles or full-body workouts like MuscleMax? I work out for 60-75 minutes, 6x per week. I'm doing cardio Monday, Wednesday and Friday and weights Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (including at least one interval workout) and following the South Beach Diet. I would love to hear your suggestions!
Thanks,
Nancy

I have a similiar rotation and would love to hear the answer to this question.

Thank you,

Did you see that August rotation?

Now I don't know about any of you out there, but if that rotation does not push some weight off, I don't know what will.

hey ladies...I lost a little bit of weight doing the august rotation. Mind you..my eating was NOT the best during that time. Had I follow a more clean eating plan...I'm sure I would have lost more.

Give it a try...it's tough..and I'm sure you will lose SOMETHING! LOL!!

take care:)

Hi Nancy,

How about doing 30 minutes of cardio (step/walk/run/rebound/hi-lo/kickbox/spin/interval) daily along with an upper body split and the occasional leg workout? That should bring it to 60-75 minutes daily like you are used to working out along with your usual rest day.

I have been doing that for the last 2 weeks and am beginning to feel my pants loosen up a bit, I feel great, I am not burning out and I still have time for other things without being exhausted.

After years of beating myself working out so hard, I have found that I don't want to work as hard as--for example, the August rotation (as good as it may be to others)--to lose weight. As much energy as I have and as much as I love to workout and be healthy, I just don't want to do it. I have a life (children/hubby/job/family/friends), too. :D

Just my experienced opinion. ;-):+ :p

Runathon - thanks for your suggestion. Do you do each body part once a week? I was thinking about trying cardio + heavy weights for 1 body part every day.

I agree with the posters who said you can lose weight with the August rotation, but I don't think I'm ready for BootCamp twice in one day!

I would still love Cathe's input. It seems that some people say you have to do tons of cardio for weight loss, and others emphasize building muscle to improve metabolism. I know that I really need to do both for health - I'm mostly wondering what's the best mix/schedule for weight (fat) loss. But in the meantime, please keep the suggestions coming! I know this is a very educated crowd with lots of experience! Thanks.

I agree with runathon. I used to workout hard everyday and I finally got burned out and was not losing weight. I now do cardio(step, kickboxing or a run) 6 days a week for about 30-40 minutes and one muscle group per day. I have been using the gym styles for upper body and it is working out really well. I have settled into a good weight and I look forward to my workouts now and never dread the long workout ahead. I do endurance work for the legs like Muscle endurance or Power hour 1-2x per week. Just my 2 cents. I definitely feel that a lot of us beat our bodies up instead of just being healthy and balanced with our workouts.

Hi Nancy! As far as the fitness plan is concerned, both ways work fine for weight loss. For best results you can do both by giving your body differents challengings to master. Stick with one way for about three weeks and then do the other for three weeks and keep mixing it up like this every three weeks. Good Luck!
