Best Food/Fitness Log Software, IMHO

For anyone looking for software to log their food intake and exercise, I would like to recommend LifeForm: http://www.lifeform.com/

I bought their software a few years ago and liked it a lot. It is very easy to use and easy to add your own foods (recipes or store-bought) to the database.

However, a year or so ago I started to perceive it as "old," and when a computer crash (unrelated) occurred, I decided to look into other software. I started using FitDay but I just never got the hang of it.

I decided I wanted to start using my LifeForm software again and was THRILLED with the customer service I got via e-mail.

If you are interested in software to help with your New Year's Resolutions, I highly recommend LifeForm!

Hi,
I logged onto the web site and need more details about the exercise page. Can you easily log in details for strength training...ie reps, sets and weight used? Is there a place for notes, for example..if you need to go up in weights next time or if you went up in weights for a particular session. Thanks.

HI Cathy,

Unfortunately, I think the answer to your questions is no.

I have used it primarily as a food log. The exercise section is general in the sense that you enter the type of exercise (jogging, weightlifting, skiing, biking) and the amount of time spent and it calculates calories expended based on info you enter in your profile, such as your height and weight.

So it is keeping track of calories in/calories out (as well as fat grams, protein, cholesterol, carbs, many vitamins and nutrients, sodium, calcium, iron, etc. etc.) as well as total time spent exercising at various intensities.

There are a number of different reports you can view and print, but none of them function as a workout log such as the one you are describing, at least not to my knowledge.

Hope this helps! (FYI, I think they have a 21 day free trial)

I have been doing a trial of a program on my desk top and PDA. It is at www.electricdreams.ca/desktopdiet.com It has a journal, fitness, nutrition, personal information, goals and seems like places for notes. So far I like it but haven't explored all of it yet. You can click on bodyparts and it will tell exercises for that part. You can add foods and I think exercises to the data. I got new Dell Axim and am looking for something that I can use on the desktop and the PDA.

I just downloaded Iron Trainer 2. It cost $39 for a 2 user package. It looks great and seems to be user friendly. Cardio, weightlifting, diet, goals comments etc. Able to edit data and add categories very easily. I'll give an update after I have used it for a few weeks. I would reccommend checking it out however.
