Besides working out, what's your favorite beauty secret?

I love to hear other people's secrets. Maybe be able to find something new to try!

I have very dry skin and have found that spraying NaPCA on my face morning and night before my moisturizure works wonders! No flaky skin. And I wear sunscreen all year, every day.

Also, I discovered Melaleuca a few months ago and love their whitening toothpaste and clarifying toner. The toner helped lighten this ugly dark patch that had developed on my face since having my daughter. It's almost completely gone. Of course, that may also be because I have gone off of oral contraceptives and switched to an IUD. Started that and the Melaleuca around the same time, so it's impossible to say which helped the dark patch.

LOL Kathryn! Candlelight does wonders as well, don't you think? ;-)

Seriously ... I don't have any "secrets". I drink a lot of water, and I workout. So much of what happens with your skin is due to factors like how much you laid out in the sun when you were younger, smoking, heredity, etc. Skin care products only affect the top layers. Some people age more slowly than others, and again a lot of that is hereditary.

I use Clinique, and I've tried just about everything else out there. I like it because it's affordable and it does the job for me. I color my hair because I'm not quite ready to go gray yet - LOL!! I wear foundation with sunscreen everyday, and I try to get enough rest. There's not much else you can do.

There are skin care products out there people swear by. We had a thread about them a few months ago.

Donna,

One of the greatest beauty secrets I have is Allure magazine. I love this magazine because they are intelligent and really give you a lot of useful information, great articles. It's unlike any other magazine out there. I have subscribed since it came out.

I love Crest premium white strips, they really work. I think everybody and their brother has these though, so I don't know if this is a "secret."

I love Bare Escentuals cosmetics, they are fabulous. The foundation is a powder that you apply with a brush, it has great coverage but with a translucence also that doesn't look like you are wearing make-up. This is for anybody that hates to wear liquid foundation, it is so easy and quick, and doesn't feel like you are wearing a "mask"

I love Neutrogena swiss hand repair. That is the greatest thing for hands especially if you run in the cold weather.

I could go on and on, because I love cosmetics and beauty products.

I'm pretty much like Carol. In so many ways, eh, wink-wink!

I know so much of it is either hereditary, or based on sun damage in youth. So, I don't worry too much. Eat healthy, exercise, use sunscreen. I don't wear makeup, really ever, maybe once or twice a year, but I have olive skin so I never look pasty.

I like Vanicream skincare lotion, also Neutrogena. But, I get my cosmetics mostly at the health food store or Whole Foods though, to avoid evil chemicals and evil animal-testing.

My only "secret" is I use RetinA in the winter months, when I'm not getting as much sun on my face. I've used it for about 10 years. I don't know if it helps or not, it seems to keep my skin pretty good relative to my peer group, but it could be heredity and sun exposure. I always was paranoid about people thinking I was ethnic in my youth, so I never got a tan. And olive skin ages well, according to dermatologists. I get my RetinA bootleg from Europe. It costs 2.4 Euros!!! A whole tube of 1%. Can you guys believe that? And it's over the counter, no doctor's appointment to pay for. Can't beat that with a stick.

I use Crest Vivid White tooth paste, and it looks like I've bleached my teeth they are soo white. OH and the Crest Spin brush pro whitening. I use Biore skin care, it works better than enything that I've tried to control brekouts. Oh, and use Aveno face lotion, I love that suff.
Otherwise, I take a multi vitamin and an extra vitamin E and C because the multi vitamin doesn't give me a whole lot of either of those vitamins. And drink lots of water, and eat lots of veggies, now, but I didn't used to.
I must be doing something right, because I was told at my 10 year reunion that I haven't changed a bit! That was 6 months ago.

Good one Kathryn! I wasn't expecting that and I got a really good laugh over that! In fact just last night after we got home from Thanksgiving dinner, I was thinking how good I looked in the bathroom with just a nightlight on! LOL! :) :)

I use Bobbi Brown makeup..it really conceals my blemishes. I use Murad products for cleansing. I do make sure I put Aquafor(sp?) on my lips every night before bed. It keeps my lips chapped free and smooth. Lots of water too!!

It's the best!
And having pictures taken from farther away also helps (as well as having people stand farther away when they are talking to you: let's see, at 30, they can be 2 feet away, at 40, 2.5 feet, at 50, 4 feet..)

A woman after my own heart! I also suscribe to Allure. It's evil. I have spent so much money on cosmetics.

Do those white strips cause any sensitivity. I can't stand that. I spent $500 on a bleach & tray from my dentist & stopped using it after a couple of times because I would keep clenching my teeth with the sensitivity. What a waste of money.

I never go out without concealer. Never. But as far as specifics, I'm not loyal to any one brand. I LOVE shopping at Sephora. I can spend all afternoon there. They allow you to try on everything (playtime), and they have a good return policy.

OH! So that's the "secret" formula to great pictures - thanks!! I'll have to remember that one!! LOL!!

Is Bobbi Brown make-up really good? What do you use from her line if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Karen,

I can't live without her concealers and foundations!! I use the oil-free foundation, sheer finish pressed powder and blemish cover stick. When I am in a hurry I use her foundation stick. I switch around the blushes, eye shadows etc. I do like the nude on nude eye shadow palette. They are earthy tone colors.

I'm pretty sure this is no secret, but i get a very hot rag and cover my face with it to open my pores. then i use an astrigent to clean pores. then take an ice cube and run it over your face to tightly seal your pores back up. that way they look tight before i put foundation or powder on and the makeup can't clog them as easily.

jo, i am a big fan of nightlights and candles myself!!

Proactiv, Anyone who has acne ought to try this stuff. It is great. Also lots of water and at least once a week, usually on Sunday, my husband takes our children out for the afternoon. This gives me a little down time just for me.

You are right Kim. Proactiv works!!! Has anybody tried the generic versions sold at Walmart, etc.? I would like to purchase those but I would like to hear a testimony.

Thanks,
Lori

Marla-I don't think the Crest white strips cause any sensitivity/pain. You leave them on for 30 minutes at a time. (Premium) I often just put them on once I come out of the shower and getting ready.

I love Sephora too! I don't have a store in my city, which is a good thing.
