Benefits of cardio/weights in the same workout?

Hi,

I just started working out with you Cathe, and I have to say, (in case you didn't know) you are the queen the video fitness! I have been doing video fitness since 1989, don't ask me how I didn't find you before now. Thank you for your quality workouts. They are truly unequaled anywhere in the industry.

Anyway, my question is this. I generally structure my workouts one day cardio then one day strength training alternating back and forth each day. However, I love the videos like Boot Camp that have cardio bursts followed by strength training. I would just like to understand how they work on the body differently than a sustained cardio workout. I always understood that you don't begin burning fat until you have been doing cardio for at least 12 minutes or so. It helps me to know the idea behind a workout to get the most out of it. I would appreciate some input so I can figure out how to rotate my videos for max fat loss and endurance training.

Thanks!

Hi Luckygirl! Bootcamp is designed to promote fitness endurance. It does not fall in a "weight day" or "cardio day" category. It simply burns calories, stimulates the metabolism, and increases your overall stamina. This workout will not distract from your weight or cardio programs since you never stay on one particular thing long enough to break down a lot of muscle tissue. But it DOES tap into a lot of different exercises at a challenging pace which will keep muscle fibers stimulated, heart rate elevated, and calories buring. The constant changing of exercises will create the much desired muscle confusion which contributes to keeping the metabolism spiked, thereby ultimately promoting fat loss. I enjoy putting workouts of this nature in my rotation atleast once a week.

Merry Fitness:)
