Being a nurse & working out

I have a question on behalf of my sister. She is getting introduced to Cathe & also starting her nursing career. She works 12 hour shifts at a hospital, no set schedule. Sometimes day on day off, sometimes 2 on 3 off, etc. Any nurses out there & how do you fit your workouts in?

Not a nurse but I am thinking she needs to do what many shift workers do...plan as the schedule comes out. Does she get her schedule ahead of time? If so, she can plan a week or two ahead. You can even help her design a "rotation."

The other option is to come up with set days she works out no matter what her schedule is. On the days she works 12 hours, maybe her exercise will be taking a long walk/run.

I've been a 12 hour nurse for 18 years....I work out on my days off.....I wear my pedometer on work days and get those 10,000 steps in....sometimes, if I'm off the next day, I'll walk the dogs a mile or two or do a CoreMax or Jillian 20 minute....some of my friends would do the 20 minute TJ before work or after....

Nursing is SOOOO fitness friendly a profession! Tell your sister, welcome and Godspeed!
