Beginner

Hello Cathe!.... being new with this I'm 5'4 weight 187lbs..wanting to lose 40-50lbs...wanting muscle at the sametime. So I order Your imax 2+ cardio & weights DVD, bodyblast series push pull, and legs and glutes videos all areas that I really need to work on.if so how can i set this up as a routine, how many reps should be done, how many lbs. to start off with and what should i buy next. So did I make the right choices being my first time..if not please help. Clean eating i would like to know more.:)

Are brand new to working out or brand new to Cathe? If you've never worked out before, perhaps you should start off with one of Cathe's beginner dvd's. Basic Step/Body fusion is a great one to get you started with cardio. It also has a body toning segment. If you are brand new to working out, I think your dvd choices are very advanced and you may become frustrated. I started with Basic step and worked up to low impact step recently got muscle max and stretch max. As far as eating goes, include salad and veggies with lunch and dinner. Keep breakfast healthy and clean and you'll do fine.

Good luck.
Carmen

Hi Lorraine! Nice to have you join us. I agree with Carmen as far as if you are brand new to working out that Basic Step and Body Fusion(both on one DVD) and Low Impact Step and Total Body Sculpting (both on one DVD) would be better choices. But don't worry about the workouts you currently have because you will need and benefit from them eventually too (look toward bottom).

If you have these beginner DVD's you will also need 3 to 5 pound handweights, an exercise tube (preferrably with handles), and a stability ball.

You can follow the workouts the way they are delivered (as far as how many reps to do), rather than having to have a separate plan figured out.

Here is a three month starter workout plan:

Week 1,2 and 3:

Mon: Basic Step plus Lower body hand weight add on (it is one of the workouts on the tape)

Tues: OFF

Wed: Basic Step plus upper body hand weight add on (it is one of the workouts on the tape)

Thurs: One Segment from Total Body Stretching (a good idea to start with the segment that uses no equipment)

Fri: Basic Step plus Abdomial routine add on (it is one of the workouts on the tape)

Sat: Upper AND lower body tubing routine (it is one of the workouts on the tape)

Sun: One segment of Total Body Stretching plus the the abdominal add on from the Basis Step DVD

WEEK 4, 5, and 6

Mon: Body Fusion

Tues: Lower Body add on with hand weight from Basic Step DVD

Wed: Body Fusion

Thurs: The abdominal add on from the Basic Step DVD plus One segment from total Body stretching

Fri: Brisk walk outside for 40 minutes and a segment from Total Body Stretching

Sat: Upper and Lower body add on with tubing plus abdominal segment from Basic Step DVD (they are all on the DVD)

Sun: A segment from Total Body Stretching DVD

Week 7, 8, and 9

Mon: Low Impact Step

Tues: Total Body Sculpting

Wed: Low Impact Step

Thurs: Abdominal Add on from Basic Step DVD plus one stretch segment from Total Body Stretching

Fri: Body Fusion

Sat: OFF

Sun: Total Body Sculpting

Week 10, 11, and 12

Mon: Low Impact Step

Tues: Lower Body Add On with hand weights from Basic Step DVD

Wed: Body Fusion

Thurs: Brisk walk for 40 minutes plus abdominal add on from Basic Step DVD

Fri: Total Body Sculpting

Sat: One segment Total Body Stretching

Sun: OFF

Now you are ready to start introducing Cardio and Weights into your program. Hold off on Imax 2 for about two more months from this point. When you are ready, only do Imax 2 one day a week and do other less impact cardio for the other cardio days that week.

As far as clean eating....

Eat a wide variety of veggies, especially dark leafy green veggies, a wide variety of lean protein sources, a wide variety of complex carbohydrates, and keep all your foods in their more natural form (without cream sauces, or frying, or without swimming in oils). Eat a wide variety of healthy fruits too and be sure that you have citrus sources as well. A daily multi-vitamin is a good idea too.

Good Luck Lorraine! Btw, you have inspired me to keep this on file and use this rotation as an official Beginner rotation for all of our newest fitness enthusiasts
