Beginner/Intermediate Check in 12/11 to 12/17

I'm right there with you!! I LOVE it when I get up bright and early, work out hard and feel like I have accomplished so much, while most of the world is still asleep!! When I don't get up, I spend the rest of the day beating myself up over it!! ugh!

So, don't be too hard on yourself - at least you got up and did something! I slept in and now I'm trying to figure out how to get a workout in today. I'm at work now and tonight my son has basketball practice, so it will be a late night.

Ok - Chris - how about we both get up really early tomorrow and both get super workouts in before the weekend!!??

Hello everyone,

I didn't workout this morning due to stiffness in my neck. I had stiffness in my neck since Sunday but it went away then it came back on me on Wednesday while at work. I could barely turn my neck. I am starting to get a very bad cold with a runny nose so I took only 2 Aleves and it didn't work. Took cold medicine I now can breath. I wore one of those heated patches and it worked fine until I took it off this morning and then I started getting stiff again. I did set my alarm for 5:15 but I just could exercise with the little stiffness I still had. So the doctor I work with told me to take 800 mg Advil 3 times a day and that should take the pain away and wear patches on the muscles during the day and possibly at night. I hope this works.

In this season sometimes I think it is hard to workout. We are doing a lot of entertaining with families and friends, lots of shopping, staying out late, parties on the job, people bringing cookies and candy at work. I think there will be a fitness increase after X-mas or after the New Year. I know I will be more geared up after X-mas. Isn't December the most unhealthiest month of the year?

Those heat patches work sooo good for stiff muscles. Especially low back and neck. I've also slapped them on my hamstrings when they are sore after a floor leg workout.
Yes, December is a terrible month for staying healthy in many ways-the eating, the stress, the busyness, the viruses going around. That's why I'm just trying to get in my 4 workouts a week. Today was a rest day but we did take a leisurely walk, about a mile, so I wasn't a total slug. I still just felt really tired today. Tomorrow is Muscle Max shortened premix so I need to be rested for that one. I'm thinking of doing theme weeks to keep myself motivated. My Hardcore series week is KickMax, Lomax step only, High Step Challenge and Muscle Max. Shortened premixes for all. Next week I may do a Body Blast series week because they are easier.

I've just started doing Cathe's workouts. Today, to my utter AMAZEMENT, I made it through the complete workout of Bootcamp. I did modify here and there, and I couldn't quite "get" the terminator thrusts (I got it in my head, but it wouldn't transfer into my body..*hehe*). I am planning on walking/running for 30 min. in a few minutes here. I'm trying hard to eat clean...but it really can be a huge struggle...especially around Christmas time with all the cookies and stuff!

Kim, I wish you a speady recovery.

Hello Createdbygod! Welcome to the group. We are a small bunch, people float in and out. We set up a weekly board and post out trials, successes, suggestions, anything. Don't be a stranger

Ummm, no one suggested these patches when I was dying on sunday, monday, tuesday from ME..... :-( Food for thought next time.

Got on the scale this morning. I said that I wasn't going to get on the scale at all during december. See what having a few extra minutes does. I GAINED ABOUT 5 LBS!!x( OMG!! The refocus starts today.

I got up bright and early today.(thanks for the push michelle) It was pouring buckets here in philly. Rain is like a sleeping pill to me. It just relaxes me. But, I'm proud to say that I got up at 5am and was working out by 5:20. I did KP and part of the crunch section. Heart rate monitor read that I burned 643 calories. I wonder how I'll feel when I become more fit and these numbers won't be high anymore.

Ok, gotta do some actual work today. Have a great day everyone!

I have to weigh myself every day to keep accountable. If I go long without weighing I ALWAYS gain. I just have to do it.
How can you burn 640 calories? Geez...The most I ever burn is 420 in an hour long workout. I think those monitors aren't really that accurate.
I did the whole Muscle Max today instead of the premix. I remembered the premixes on Hardcore shorten the rests up a lot and I want the full recovery period. It was tough but I got through it. I do a lot better on weights than cardio. I just can't seem to build any cardio capacity.
Well I got tired of my non-Cathe workouts I was trying out on Netflix. No one else can compare to Cathe in terms of FUN. Tomorrow I do LoMax step only. I wish they made a 2 inch step. Hah. I can only say that on this thread, otherwise I would be laughed off the forum.

Welcome Createdbygod!! I still have muscle pain in my neck and went to work today and I had to call my PCP to give me a muscle relaxer. So he prescribed Flexerall. I am to take it 3 times as day as need. I left work early today. I just couldn't get my neck to turn. I know I looked like a ROBOT to some people;( I really want to get back to exercising next week. This is the first time I used muscle patches and they really help especially while I am sleeping. I never thought about getting them for my aching muscles after a hard workout. I will have to keep that in mind.

I am not even going to get on the scale until after X-mas. I am eating junk food here and there at work, etc. because of the holidays. You know after X-mas that's when the stores will have all sorts of fitness items on sale. Maybe I will be able to find a 6 foot stretch band that Cathe uses in Muscle Max.

Beth, I think I remember your posting your weight. I weigh more than you. Your probably more fit than me too. I read that the vo2 monitors are the most accurate. I'm not getting one though. I read how some of the veterans on this board can't get their heart rate up enough for significant calorie burn. At this point, I don't have that problem. I have netflix too. It's been kind of a crap shoot with the workouts there. I'm glad I have the service though, cause I'm sure that I would have purchased a bunch of dvd workouts that would just collect dust.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :) Today, I just didn't have quite the energy I did yesterday, and my muscles were pretty sore, so I decided to do a non-Cathe workout-- Step Up to Dance. It was still really good, and I remember the last time I did it (a while ago) I was raelly winded and didn't make it the whole way through. Today it wasn't a breeze, but I was breathing slightly more than normal--nothing like I was yesterday from Bootcamp or the other day from KPC! :7 So that must mean I'm getting in better shape! YAY!

P.S. Maybe I should ask this in a different thread, but what heart rate monitor do you all recommend? There seem to be so many options, and prices, out there. Oh, and as an aside, during a spinning-type class I took at the gym (it's actually called x-biking) my heart rate got up into the 180s..Yikes!

createdbygod-Isn't it amazing when we realize how far we've come with exercise. I remember last year when I actually started using my treadmill that 2mph was a major workout. Now, I've traded it in for my now current fascination-an elliptical.

About the heart rate monitor. I don't have an expensive one. I just wanted one that included calories burned. I got mines from hsn.com and its called ecko. It was about $40. It does keep me from overdoing it. During one of the blasts in kpc my rate was 165 and climbing. I had to bring it back down by bringing less intensity to the move. The zone I like to stay in is 120-150.

Kim-Your really in a bad way to have to take muscle relaxers. I hope the flexall provides relief for your neck tightness.

My workout this morning was walk away the pounds-3 mile. I wanted to move, but didn't want any intensity. In an hour, I'm going to tackle muscle endurance again. My goal for next week is to do upper body strength for three days.

Hope everyone is doing well.
