Begineer Step Tape

I want to start doing step & I am 47 & weigh about 220 (yes, I know I need to lose weight). Currently I do walking tapes indoors (too cold in NJ) & some weight training. I saw one of your steppers in a local K-Mart that included a 50 min. video. My question is, is that video too advanced for me? If so, what one of yours can I use as a very, very beginner? You came recommended from someone (that is how I got this website) & I thought I would give it try. I use to do step years ago & I enjoyed it but have not done any high impact exercise at all. I walked during the spring & early summer at a park near my home & I was losing weight & feeling great but then summer hit us & it was too hot for me. I walked about 3 miles each day & want to get back into the groove again but I feel my routine needs a bit of a "punch".

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sweetwater,
There are alot of great beginner tapes out there, but Cathe is more advanced. You could do Cathe tapes with many modifications, though. I recommend that you do a search on this site for "Beginner Step", as there have been several good threads on this subject. Also, you may want to check out Videofitness.com, which has many, many resources for you, such as reviews and a neat "tape finder". Good luck to you!

I believe that the step you saw comes with Cathe's CTX All Step, which is pretty intense. You could start with an easier Cathe tape, or start with a different step tape altogether and then order some Cathe tapes once you get some stepping under your belt. I personally think that starting with Cathe, modifying along the way, and then gradually increasing the intensity of your workouts is fine. I started with Keli Roberts and Reebok step tapes which gave me a nice cardiovascular base. Then Cathe blasted it into the next galaxy! Have fun!

If you're looking for a Cathe workout to start with I would recommend Step Heat. It has a few tricky moves, but I found it quick to pick up.
